How long did it take and what methods did you use to get this list?
How many members does it currently have? I'm about to get into email marketing and I plan on using the squeeze page/give a free ebook away strategy.

I just was curious how others developed their list. Thanks

I've been list building for about a year now.

    It's an ongoing process.

    You're never done.

How long does it take? Forever. But you can start right now.

How did I Develop it? Paid traffic. (I'm not much of a SEO or social media buff)

It's permanently ongoing. My oldest list is nearly 4 years old and still building. (I attract traffic to my sites by article marketing and have a prominently incentivized opt-in on my landing pages. I did a lot of split-testing of squeeze pages, in various niches, and am very pleased to have abandoned them, now. As a result, I build smaller lists and earn significantly more from them).

And here are some thoughts about squeeze pages ...

1 Page Squeeze Site for List Building
I don’t believe this! Higher opt-in rate, fewer sales

Alexa and I have gone many rounds on this in the past but we have never discussed the type of lists that are built.

I have over 200 separate highly targeted lists. These are mostly small sublists that target an extremely tageted niche. I know the exact information the people on each list are trying to get.

I have one small list that is only around 350 people. but every time I mail to that list I earn at least 5 figures. That is because I know exactly what they want.

I use squeeze pages because I can build highly targeted lists when they are used correctly. Let me give you an example...

I can put up a squeeze page that is about writing articles. When some one signs up to that list they would be on the article prospect list.

I send people to a product related to the squeeze page as soon as they sign up. If they purchase the product the person is then added to the article buyer list.

Not all lists are equal but segmenting your list into highly targeted sublists can make your marketing much more profitable.

      I hope this helps,

I agree with Alexa. It's ongoing. You can be building a list of thousands for years. It's usually worth it with the right offers or business opportunity. I have used Craigslist, BackPage, solo ads, postcards, etc. All are effective for building your list. Some work faster than others.

There is no such thing as build up list for me simple because it constantly grows on a daily basis, so it's never enough. (Unless you're a solo ad vendor)

My oldest one is two years. But like I said, it's still grows on a daily basis.

Building a list is an ongoing process. It's not something you do just once. The larger your list, the more money you stand to make from it (as long as it's responsive and you keep them engaged by providing quality content.

I have a butterfly marketing site from 2008 that still generates daily leads, so perhaps this still may be a great tactic to use.

Get affiliates on board to promote your free report.

For a more newbie friendly thing just start blogging and show some real passion for the niche you want to build your list in.

I started my email list a few years ago and I'm still building it. I don't think this is a job that is ever finished.

As your list matures...you will mature with it...

You will (in time) treat it with more care and nurture it accordingly...

...it will reward you for doing so...you just have to stick with it...

Paid traffic directly to your squeeze page will give you the best results in the quickest time possible. Learn how to get that traffic and everything else will follow.

I think no one is really done with list building. The more you grow it, the more money you have. What matters is that you start now. I used to build my list through Free WSOs and giveaways. But now, I build it mostly through solo ads.

I don't think there is any specific time to build a list. Its a continuous process. you have to include emails of the big clients when ever you get them. and where ever you get them.

It's kind of business. If you have enough clients that they are willing to buy your products consistently. You can try to stop it. But who want to stop, when you can make more money.

  • Pretty quickly actually. PPC really kick started my list and gave me instant people to talk to.
Now of course I do a lot of automated content syndication and article marketing as well as video.

But I will always have respect for the fact that PPC was what initially got me going in the very beginning. I still use it, although I bring much better traffic from content-based methods.

building your list does take time, patients and hard work so anyone that tells you otherwise is a fool

that being said there are ways to build your list slower and faster

free traffic will generally be very slow

but sing methods such as ppc and solo ads you could quite easily build a 3k list within weeks if you have the money to spend on traffic

it`s really not that difficult to get traffic

the hardest part is creating a good sales funnel and converting prospects into buyers

i have built my lists with:

    My Blog
    Solo Ads
    Affiliates
    Forums
    Articles
    Videos
    Viral Traffic
    PPC

I realized from the response that many have assumed that I think that the list building process is complete. I wanted to know how long it took you to build your list to it's CURRENT number of subscribers. I understand that the process never stops, who would want it?

Thanks for the spectacular ideas. This is a great forum to bounce ideas off of.

I couldn't help but notice no one answered the question of "how many do you have in your list?" It could be helpful for people to know how many, and how long it took to get that many using the techniques you have all provided.

    Hi,

You can start building a list as soon as you've got the right vehicle set up
    to make this happen.

==>> Incoming Traffic ==>> Offer/FREE/Paid ==>> Added To Email List

Obviously you'll need to learn a few basic skills first but anyone can build a list.

What really counts is how many PROVEN BUYERS you can add to that list
by creating an irresistible offer that solves a particular problem or GIVES
something to others that no one else is currently offering.

Get your offer right and building a buyers list will become a much more
    pleasant experience.

    All the best
    Gavin
