Can Facebook really help drive traffic?

I know its sounds like a silly questions, I have heard about using facebook to help drive traffic to a website but never really used it..

I dont have a huge friends list, I have about 70 in total

So Im wondering how people use Facebook to drive traffic to a website?

is it just a matter of posting stuff on the wall or is there other methods people use?

Thanks in advanced

Tim

    Hey Tim,

Most traffic are generated from Facebook fan pages. A lot of marketers like these pages because they can have extremely targeted traffic. Basically, you create a page around a certain interest and then get people to like the page. Once your page becomes one of the most popular fan pages in that field, you'll get more fans automatically. After that, you can feed them with info and with an occasional product promotion. Since the traffic is targeted, you'll surely see some sales.

The best part is that it appears on the wall of the people that liked your page. That's great exposure with so many people logging in Facebook everyday.

  • My experience with Facebook says that is difficult to get traffic, but not impossible.
Many people miss the right way, sometimes starting to post ads, advertising, offers and so on. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are talking to real people, not robots ready to click your ads or join squalid fan pages.

So start posting funny images, simply repinning others who share things who are able to generate smiles, and when you see the first likes on that images, continue.
After some time you can start opening your own FB page, and inviting them.
They will come because they remember your funny images who generated a laugh or a smile.

This has worked for me, and sometimes I also place news about my launches, and that same people are ready to comment, share or visit that links. Now I've more than 1600 followers on FB, all really targeted to IM. I simply entertain them with memes and funny images, that's all!

    See you soon,

Tim. Over the last week i have seen lots of posts like this from you. It's good to ask questions but you seem to be asking questions across too many different topics/methods. You need to stick to just one or two and get good at them before you move on.

You have a decent enough looking squeezepage (make the pic of your guide smaller though) so you know a bit about putting them together or or you know where to source one. So now just stick to traffic.

If you want help setting up a facebook page and getting it kick started with some real likes and a good long term strategy send me a pm and i can help you get going

Im getting 1500 - 2000 hits to the facebook fan pages but no one visits the website. The business is happening in the website and not on fan pages. I think I must revise and alter my fan page and give it a go.

You can also create a few facebook accounts, join these 'get 2000 friends groups' per account...and when you have 2000 friends or so, then market your fan page on those accounts. This is just another suggestion. It works for some people, but not all.

Tim, the primary key is the value your posts give to your fans. The number of fans in a page comes secondary. If your few fans find your posts valuable for them, they will proactively share your posts. Take advantage of its full potential by using infographics, uploading YouTube videos with Creative Commons License, eye-catchy images, and the like. Make sure all these are relevant to your fan page's niche/industry.

I have found FB ads as a good source of generating traffic to your site. This of course depends on how good you are at creating an ad. One that is appealing to the viewers and prompts them to click on your ads. Of course you set a budget and you are charged per click. They more you spend the more your ad is displayed.

I've had an interesting experience with Facebook: someone posted a link to one of my articles on their wall and the article got almost 1500 visitors in a day (for a new site with ~50 daily visitors, that was a lot :-). The traffic slowly subsided over the next couple of days, but I was impressed - the user didn't have more than a few hundred friends.

The trick is to get your link posted by someone in the first place - maybe stalk some people's accounts and recommend your link at an opportune time ?

Facebook is a massive source for advertisers, if you can get the right campaign going and create enough hype about your product then you can make alot of $$$ from Facebook.

If you're looking for a free marketing method, then Fanpages are the way to go. If you have some money to invest, then using targeted Facebook ads will get you quicker results. Fanpages are very similar to creating pages on squidoo or blogger in that they can take a little time to grow, but with the amount of popularity that Facebook has, you can really leverage the social media and sharing power to quickly grow your audience.

Try a platform that is likely to actually produce some *real* interest, FB (as can be seen by our facebook share price post!) is turning into the next Boo.com #fail, best to spread your IM wings as far and over as many traffic sources as you can, all the time!

Yes, it is. Basically, you are creating a giant magnet in a crowd of potential customer. You should use Facebook special account called Fanpage. Post and interesting status daily and direct them into your squeeze page.

I would say that facebook is great tool to generate traffic. You have to keep in mind that people who are on facebook come here to entertain themselves. give good content, but don't bored them. That's the key to get fan.

also ask if they like the post. you that people tend to write a lot and that you they are going to create you content.

the most important thing is to be consistant.

    good luck for your future.

You can advertise your website on facebook. The great thing about facebook advertising is that it allows you to filter your visitors by age, location, etc. Facebook advertising is not as costly as other paid traffic. Do give it a try!

    All the best!

This is just my experience, there are many better marketers here on Warrior than I, however for me FB has not been very good to drive traffic to my website (unless doing an offer or special) .. however think of this.. many times your trying to drive traffic to a squeeze page to build a marketing list. What Facebook IS good for is building a following on your Fanpage. This is in essence a marketing list as you can very easily market to them by posting offers / ads to your wall. So while I would say that FB is not good for driving traffic directly to your website .. it is great for getting a lot of people listening to you ..

The wording of the question does not address how a person can get traffic from Facebook. It is almost impossible to "drive" traffic from Facebook. I think it is impossible to "drive" traffic form almost anywhere, but from social sites, it is not the place to start.

First you need something on your website that is worth people's time to come to visit. I don't know anything about your website, so I have nothing to say about it, you probably already have this covered.

Then you need a facebook fanpage that matches up with teh design, structure, and content of your website, but with the added idea that the really good stuff is on your site, and what is on FB is just a teaser.

Next you need a call to action in your FB posts. In an image this could be a link in your image description that tells people you have more for them on your site.

Posting between 5 - 7 times a day seems to get the best results right now. It's hard to say what the best times are, that varies widely across time zones and the geographical locations of your visitors.

Facebook is like a spectator sport, more like watching TV than anything else, with your posts and call to action as the advertisements you see on the television.

It does not work in that way. See, facebook is very strong social media site. Now it is very easy to get 1000-10000 'like' for your site. But you need to pay for this task. How much money? It depends how much 'like' do you want?

I know about a lot of websites who are getting thousands of visitors daily through facebook only. They are not using any kind of facebook PPC ads, but they are just creating good pages and getting likes from the members who are interested in their niche. Thus they are driving traffic to their sites regularly.
