What do I need to offer my visitors a chance to sign up for updates on my site?

Can you please point me to all the software or services that I would need if I were to give my website visitors a form to signup with their name and email address to receive new updates on my website?

You need to set up an auto responder to build your list; then you can syndicate your blog with your auto responder, so whenever you make new blog posts, they get updates.

If you don't want to build a list, you can simply use a WordPress subscription widget, where people type they're email to receive emails when you update your blog.

I would recommend building a list, then using a squeeze page with a free offer to give them an incentive to sign up. Then you can also upsell on the back end of the free offer.

You just need a blog, auto responder, squeeze page, and maybe a pop up box widget.

  • From your question, I presume that you already have a website so you need to sign-up with a mailing service like Aweber or GetResponse. You can then set up sign-in forms to add to your website, create automated follow-up sequences, etc.

GetResponse offers a one month free trial.

You've got comprehensive replies already but I would like to add that despite its goofy name MailChimp does a good job. They make it easy to try it, no expiring trial and it's free up to 2,000 subscribers.

Mailchimp is ok to start with; don't they have an issue with affiliate links? I'm not sure myself..

Yeah, you're right, JoeyXoto, they even mention it in their policy. This deters some of their potential customer base.

That kind of official stand sends a message but in actual fact you can still have affiliate links with no problems as long as you don't take the mickey.

Maybe this is not the right place to suggest MailChimp because there's a chance they won't like some of the stuff GetResponse and Aweber doesn't bat an eyelid on.

Aweber and a reason for them to want to sign up.
