Beginner question regarding autoresponder

Hey!

I understand the concept of autoresponder series pretty well by now but one thing is still making me wonder.

Do you just keep going forever? When I've been doing this for a year I'm maybe at my 100th email. It seems strange to me that the people opting in at that time will still get the first email.

If I then promote a prouct in that 100th email it will take a year for people opting in that day to get to that product.

Maybe it's just the way things work but it just seems... Strange. I'd be very thankful if someone could explain this to me.

When someone joins the list you set it up so that they receive an introduction series of messages - how many is up to you.

Autoresponders also give you a broadcast feature which allows you to keep in touch when you have something to say, eg,. blog post, new product launch, a webinar

The only golden rule with broadcasts is to only use them when you have something of value to say. Promoting a different product everyday with copy and paste messages won't impress your list.

Some solid advice from people here, including the above. Perhaps you can boil it down (at the risk of being too cute) to something as simple as: "Email onto others as you would have them email onto you."

A mutually valuable relationship can go on for a long time. Show people you value them and they'll reward you.

As Alexa mentions, don't think in terms of "broadcasts" or "blasts," while those terms have been around sometime, they may tend to dull the perception that what you are always striving for is to make that individual connection -- even if you are interacting with a lot of individuals at once.

Follow-ups are very powerful in nuturing those relationships. Think of follow-ups as you would relationship maintainance -- a touch of a hand, a warm smile and so on.

      Regards,
      jim

Also the other thing to consider is that you will probably end up with different lists. You can segment your lists based on where they came from, what they do with your emails (if they click a link, if they buy etc). The more you segment the more specific you can be with your next emails to those users.

About the introduction messages. When someone has gone through all of them, are they being transferred to the "main" list where everyone gets the same messages at the same time?

      I didn't know that, thanks!

When you broadcast you send to every list, or just the specific ones that segregation can bring you.

Overall you just need to try sending out a broadcast to see what the response is, hopefully it will be a positive experience from your readers.

Yes but how many messages should you have in the autoresponder series, should you just keep adding messages?

        I do.

I add them indefinitely to all my main lists. My longest one now has well over 200 messages. (I write articles anyway, and I recycle a lot of the "new articles" as additional messages - it's not much extra work).

I avoid broadcasts, for the reasons explained here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7046574

As you see, different people do slightly different things!

But I'm willing to keep sending emails for ever, in principle. I'd even rather recycle old ones than just stop. (I do segregate lists as much as I can, too, so it's not quite as simple as I'm making it sound).

I saw a highly experienced Warrior, whose opinions I always respect, mentioning casually in another thread, a few days ago, that he thought one of the key factors involved in making a living from it was "having at least a year's supply of messages in your autoresponder", and I don't disagree at all. (Others may, though!).

I have no idea what niche you are in, and what those people want? It is up to you to decide what you do, everyone here will give you different advice.

Personally I only put a few messages in the follow-up and use the broadcast function a lot.

If I spent more time creating the follow-up then I could make a lot more sales, but I'm too lazy to do all the cut & paste into the series. Then again 7 messages in 7 days could loose me a lot more subscribers.

Also if I put links to affiliate products to these messages and 6 month later the owner has vanished and the links are dead I'd look a bit silly.

Ah, okay. That answered my question. Thanks!

As long as the content is evergreen and doesn't have a sell by date - add it to your autoresponder series. Even better, send broadcasts to your list (or segment of your list) and whichever ones perform the best, add them to your follow ups.

How powerful would your follow up series be if you only added content that has already got a great response from a broadcast? Just remember that the content in your follow ups can't have a sell by date, like six months or so.

Whatever, everything is an opinion until tested by the person doing the promotion. Learn how to test very early on in this game and you will be heavily rewarded for it further down the line.

It depends mainly on your niche as to the best amount of follow up emails that you have in place because in some niches things change all the time so to have say 100 email follow ups set up would not be very practical

I usually create up to a couple of months of follow ups and also send broadcasts in between

There is no harm in sending broadcasts on a regular basis too just as long as you don`t just only do promotions

I think the more money you make from the list the more motivated you'll be to keep on writing. Depending on what niche your in there are so many products and trends and topics for discussion you wont have any problem having stuff to write about. That's the thing about a list is its an ongoing relationship with no end in site. Think of it this way would you get tired of writing to people when it could lead to a flood of cash coming in on a consistent basis if u do it right?

You have the choice to keep on adding messages or do a broadcast. It really depends on you - you decide on the number of followups and whether if you'll add new messages or broadcast them.

This is how it goes (usually):

Subscriber subscribes > If it is an short course, he will receive the predefined series of messages and stops receiving them.

Subscriber subscribes > If it is your newsletter, he will receive your newsletters whenever you sent them.

You can give the option to your subscriber who signs up for ecourse to be added to your newsletter list and vice versa.

As long as you send good information, even it is 100th email ... it doesn't matter. But is is always good to keep in touch with your subscribers.
