Warriors, how do you check your emails while on the go?

In my case, I use my mobile phone very much to check all my email accounts when I'm on the go.

As marketers, we are on constant need for email access. And moreover, since most of us are not confined by office space, we need mobile email access wherever we are, whenever we are (at least I know I do need mobile email)

You may say Blackberry is the answer.. quite correct, but I've found a free way to turn even regular mobile phones into a mobile email tool more powerful than a Blackerry. And all the applications/services used in this method is free as well.

I've written a report on how I do this and I am giving it away for you warriors as a token of good will in my first post here, although I've been on this forum for several years now (under another username in the old forum). With my old account I only post less than 10 posts, and I use my account mainly for searching through the big archive.

It's been a very educational experience, and all the information I receive from this forum is nothing short of fantastic to say the least.

That's why I want to give back to this forum on my first post with the new account.

Like I said, the report that I am giving away is based on my own experience, tweaking my mobile phone (regular mobile phone and smart mobile phones) into email tools more powerful than Blackberry.

Using the technicques I write in the report, here's basically what you can expect to get from your mobile phone:

- you can read and send emails on the go (of course :-))
- you can store gigabytes of worth of email archive and do a search through it in just a few seconds
- you can forward very big emails with very big attachments using only several kilobytes of your mobile phone's data credit
- you can have an always updated email spam filter right there on your mobile phone
- you can have a very economical mobile email experience, even when you're on international roaming

I check my mobile and it seems to work alright with me. But I am here in Japan where connection is really good. Only thing is you get charged quite high.

I never check email when travelling. I have an assistant who does customer support. Non customer emails can wait until I get back to the computer.

My office computer is a laptop which allows me to bring it with me when I'm away from more than a day.

I refuse to get a Blackberry because I'd have no excuse not to return personal emails right away. Sometimes I just don't want to be contacted. It's bad enough that I have a cell phone.

LOL..

Well, you're right at some point..

with my mobile email, some of my coleagues think I'm a computer geek who stays in front of my computer all day long because to them I seem to be able to answer emails at any time of the day :-)

and my wife's doesn't really love the concept of "taking your email wherever you are"

When you're just out to do some shopping or to pick up the children from school and things like that, do you bring your laptop with you as well?

Just curious.. I used to do that in the past but now that my mobile phone is getting more powerful, I choose to do smaller tasks such as answering emails and light browsing from the phone

LOL, no kids, and I don't take the laptop shopping. Why would I?

BTW, where I live, they have this thing called a bus that picks up the kids where they live and takes them to school, then brings them home.

I thought we were talking about traveling here, like being gone overnight or longer. I can go a few hours without checking email.

Thanks for sharing the report - it looks very useful.

However I was thinking about getting one of those mini laptops for when I visit with relatives or whatever... anybody have a brand they're happy with?

I travel a LOT.

I use a Blackberry while I'm on trains, in airports etc.. and a laptop with a 3G dongle, wireless and wired ethernet when I'm in a fix location. Like right now - I'm in singapore using my laptop (the broadband here is 100Mbps so I love it).

I have a Fujitsu P5010 that I use. It has been everywhere from Asia to Las Vegas. It's a 10 inch screen and runs WinXP Pro with a 1Ghz Intel Centrino CPU.

I originally paid around $2000 for it about 4 years ago, but you can find good used ones on eBay for around $300-400. It isnt fast, but runs apps like Outlook well and has around 8-9 hour battery life whn used with the second battery that fits in the CD drive bay. It also fits well on a airline tray table in economy class.

im doing the same thing. I prefer to bring my laptop wherever i go, especially when I need to travel. Checking and responding to my mailbox is a must.

  I am really lucky in the fact that mobile internet via a cell phone is very cheap where I live, $30 a month for unlimited access, not very fast but fine for email.
  
  So I carry either my tiny Asus EEE PC 701 or my HTC Tytn smartphone, both set up to access my hosted Microsoft Exchange account, so all of my emails, contact, task, notes and calender items are perfectly in sync at all times no matter what PC I am using.

  pmore, I am glad you like the report. I use the very same method with my mobile phone heavily on a daily basis.
  
  Since I have to check up to 9 email accounts at the same time from my mobile phone, the methods in the report helps me a lot to easily manage them all.
  
  In my country, mobile data plan comes in many prices, but the lowest rate is around 10 bucks for 250 MB monthly.
  
  I know it's not cheapest rate in the world, but it's okay for me, so I'm using my mobile phone for email and browsing and enjoying the mobile accesibility it gives me
