Website Businesses on eBay - Good start for a noob?

Hello All,

I've been itching to jump in and get my feet wet, and have found the forum to be extremely useful in getting a lot of answers. In an effort to get started ASAP so that Analysis Paralysis does not set in, I was hoping for some insight from the experts here.

Would you deem it wise to start with a website on ebay that has been built already, and then SEO the site with articles produced by freelance writers on elance?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Best,

Macagba7

The problem with the ebay websites are that they are mainly cookie cutter in nature and your not really sure how many times that the same design/content has been sold. You could in fact end up buying something thats been sold numerous times and is really just duplicate content to Google (difficult to seo).

The other issue is, the best way to get your feet wet is to learn a little HTML and or design so that way when you get much bigger and want to outsource the work...you understand the process.

Rather than purchase a site on Ebay, just get to know Wordpress a bit and grab a theme that goes along with your niche. Maybe choose a niche that you know alot about to begin with just to learn from. I'm assuming you have a domain already.

There is a learning curve with anything and you can't go wrong spending some time learning wordpress. Get it going, get the site indexed, start building links, add content, make some videos to drive some traffic, social bookmark, submit articles, try to build a list if you can (more learning curve), and then start monetizing the site.

I would suggest laying out the exact plan that you want to eventually do with the site. What do you want the site to do to earn income? Will it be offering an original product eventually? Will it be promoting an affiliate product? Ebay store? Adsense? CPA?

Laying out a plan early on will help you stay focused on why you started building the site in the first place. Its an ongoing process, but focusing on one thing at a time will help speed up your learning curve immensely.

Great feedback on both, thank you! I have two projects I am hoping to get launched right away. One that is top of mind to get up ASAP, and just sounds like I need to get my nose in the books/web to get additional info.
