Backlink Help Please

INTERNET MARKETING

I have a question on backlinking ... I was under the impression that backlinks were created when you made comments on forums (like this) and your website was in the signature and that was a backlink. I have posted alot here and I get some traffic from WF but I just checked on a website (because my site is really struggling SEO wise) and it says I have 0 backlinks!!! How is that possible? Do I have my definition of backlinks wrong? I also do a lot of posting on facebook, twitter, stumbleupon, linked in, etc. ..

Advice would be greatly appreciated

Probably because these are nofollow links

There is no tool in existence that will show you all your backlinks. In particular Google only shows you a tiny, tiny fraction of your backlinks.

About the best you can do is use Majestic SEO : Backlink Checker & Site Explorer and Ahrefs Site Explorer & Keyword Tool

Thank you!! I actually used this site Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch (definitely not an affiliate I just googled backlinks and this is what came up) but I am assuming after what you have just said this is probably just a scam site?

Ahrefs is a powerful free tool up to 15 searches a day..also has some good keyword data for your sites...

  Thank you on that site it says I only have 6 back links and 1 is from WF I just don't understand how that is possible?? What am I missing? Any advice from anyone please?

As I previously said, no site shows you all your possible backlinks.

Also keep in mind that it can take some time for sites like Majestic SEO and ahrefs to discover your links as they (like Google) have to crawl through billions pages.
