This is indeed the ONLY way to get started. Why would you try to learn the ropes in a niche you know nothing about? it's a sure ticket to failure.

You have a hobby right? Make it to a niche. Whether it's video games, football or collecting bugs, as long as you're passionate about it, there is a big chance it'll make you money.

A lot of people make the same mistake. They go into the most profitable niches in the world such as making money online, weight loss, senior dating etc. And then they realize that they know nothing about and fail 9 out 10 times.

Bottom line, every single niche is profitable as long as you know stuff about it.

Don't make "making money" your first priority. Figure out what you're passionate about, then make money doing it. Those who make "making money" their priority either flame out or reach their goal and find that the trip was unsatisfying.

    Find your passion first.

Screw that find your passion noise.

    What are your likes?

    What are your dislikes?

Chances are ,people like or dislike the same things you do.

Take your "basic web design" skills and make yourself a blog bullshi**ing bout YOU!

See what people respond to and bullsh** bout it some more.

Take that bullsh** and turn it into an ebook.

Niche Marketing is all about finding the "sweet spot." Your passion and knowledge about the niche and knowing how to appeal to others' passions. you have to make them curious, give them something to think about. Why you? Why should they listen to you? Do your research...if you are truly passionate about it they will listen.

For a niche to be productive, it has to be something you are good at. Have you considered the entertainment niche? games and footballs, even the web design you talked about can work too.

If I were you, I would not spend a dime on hiring anyone to design my website, I don't care how cheap it is. Without a solid product, your fancy website will get no where.

If you want get involved in this industry, I would strongly recommend you to spend as much as time on this forum and other relevant forums and learn about the industry, what's the trend, figure out what you mainly have interests in, SEO? SEM? Ebook? Software? WSO? Making Money? Affiliate program?

Partner up with someone who is reputable online and have a strong credibilities, if you don't have the skills and abilities to develop the product, play the investor role and come up with the capital.

    Hope this helps.

The problem with the niche again. I am thinking that you are probably waiting for some miracle to happen so that you can find your niche and make some money. It's analysis paralysis. You don't get anywhere unless you figure it out.

So here's my take. Forget about passion and think about 1 thing that you can make money with right now. Is it your skills? Do you have a market in mind? Now go there and promote a product or service. You'll make some money.

I think the best way is to learn by yourself. If you succeed to learn by yourself then it would be better. When you will learn everything then you can join any other network or interact with other people to work with them. The best part is that they will not be able to bluff you in that case.

A good starting point for new players in the IM game would be to start a website about something you're passionate about or something you have have pre-existing knowledge about.

A lot of people go into random niches they think will be exciting and end up losing interest in the project because it's either boring, it sucks or it's not making instant money. We see this far too often here, which is why I recommend you start with something you have a passion for.

If you want a niche idea, go with beekeeping, it is a growing niche now that people loves to do all together, including honey and a lot of secondary things.
It's easy if you get contents created by freelancers.

Hey There... I always learned that its not about the specific niche... its about the profit potential of the niche. Do a search in google keyword tool and find niches that are at least 15-20,000 per month and you should be fine, as long as you have some knowledge about the topic.

Hope that helps... have a great day!

I had a real hard time coming up with a niche and had to really do a lot of brainstorming, leaving it alone and coming back to it. I am a musician, mom, wife, giver, nurturer, creator, but all are not my passion. I love researching stuff and learning. It has to come to what you can be an expert at and find the passion to move forward with that niche. Just like goals they can change and one cannot be afraid of changing it several times until you hit gold. It is sort of like mining. Believe you can do it too. Thanks to all of the posts for they have inspired me.

Choose something, which you are very interested in, it's your passion, or you are better in it than others. Of course a lot of niche site owners didn't concern about it (they look only on possible earnings and competition) - and now they are out of the market. If you don't want to share failure with them - follow your passions

I have found that most of the good niches are gone. However, if your goal is making money..... Well, there are a few niches left in the crazy areas. For example, web sites about UFO alien abductions or vampires. Needless to say, those sites are very popular this time of the year. After all, it could be that Halloween is near.

    GoldenTokenz,

I can answer your question, and with reasons behind it:

    1) In priority, you should choose a niche that you are most passionate.

Why: Because if you are passionate, you don't treat it as a job. You do because you just love the subject matter.

    2) If you do not really know which niche to go first, go to an Internet Marketing (IM) niche first.

Why: Because it is the fastest growing niche. It's the easiest to start due to nature of the product it is selling (non physical niche, easily farmed information). The challenge is it has more competition (but I love this, it's not about competing, it's about positioning).

    3) Sorry to break your news. If you know just how to make a website, you only learnt a piece of the puzzle. It takes a unified system to really generate money for you in IM niche.

Why I know this? Because I used to be like you now. It's when i joined a 3-day workshop 2 months ago, i got to know that you need a system to set up. I paid quite a sum for the workshop.

    4) I have good news for you. If you know where to look for the system, you can start much cheaper and faster than I am.

    5) My last advice for you: Whatever you do, do with the intention of helping others first, sales and money comes second.

Why: Imagine you want to buy something from me. All I know how to ask you is to hand out your cash without intention of helping you. How do you feel?

Hope you get my drift. Don't hesitate to ask me more if you are still unsure.

First off, here is a list of niches for you to choose from:
    http://edmicah.com/dka0_x/Your_Niche_List.pdf

Second off, you need to choose a niche that you are passionate in, like others mentioned above. A niche that you are passionate about is really important, because that what motivates you the most, otherwise this is not going to last you too long.

    Hope that helps!

Here we go with the passion thing again. Passions are great if they have certain qualities.

Does your passion have a huge, hungry, want it now crowd?

It is great you like vinegar dumplings. Are there enough of a crowd interested in them to turn it into a thriving long term business?

Are there enough products to carry your passion into the long term?

Does your passion require a lot of your time? If so it will be limited as there are only 24 hours in a day and only one you. Sure you can always scale with a team but will a team be as passionate about your passion as you?

Some ways to find a niche....

Think of something your passionate or knowledgeable about. You can easily write about this topic, sell or even create products.

Think of 2 things you like and see if those 2 things can be combined, i.e. travel & food. That's a sub-niche right there.

Do some research online, read blogs and forums (if you think maybe the weight loss niche would interest you then browse weight loss blogs and forums for ideas) and join chat rooms and talk to people. See what you can find out, what new products are people using or diets are people following? Maybe you can promote one of these products.

More specifically pay attention to whats trending on Twitter, check Yahoo Buzz, Ebay Pulse, Amazons best seller, Google Trends etc. Browse Amazon and read product reviews.

Do offline research, think about problems you or others have in your life and see if there's a solution or help out there. Chances are other people have this problem too and will pay money to solve it. Also read magazines and newspapers, you'll be surprised at what you find.

Explore subniches in the evergreen niches, i.e. weight loss, dating, sex, health & fitness, make money online, self help etc.

Once you have some ideas then do some keyword research on them to find out which could be profitable.

That's right. You have to keep doing research over and over again. and start to explore on that. After sometime you will find the niche that you really want to do.

Depends on how you want to go about it... you can try to find a small but relatively untapped niche such as a particular breed of dog and dominate in it... or you can find a very popular but saturated niche such as weight loss so long as you do the research on how to optimize your use of google keywords and get a large presence on the social networks.

Internet marketing is a very nice niche to be in.

      Here here. Sense.

The passion thing is so over played. Interest or knowledge, or the willingness to become knowledgable is what is required. No point in developing an obscure micro niche. Any sub section of the above areas are likely to be popular and will have a market. But, they will ALL require work.

The important is not the niche, but the marketing around the niche.

I know some one that make money with POOP sign!!!

I even wonder how to market a niche like that. But this guy can!

I is always better to start with something you like or have a good knowledge.

Try To Understand What You Want!

    good for you niche site

A lot of people have already said, but I can't stress it enough, is find a niche that you find interesting! Otherwise you might come into problems producing content, because you become bored with the niche you operate in

I would develop a list of potential niches by combining some basic analytical research with some of your passions. There are a number of resources that are readily available from both the government and the private sector that provide market data at a high level. You can get a sense for the overall macro value and size of any given market and look at the trend over the last X number of years. Is there strong year over year growth that projects well going forward? From there select the top 1-3 industries and start breaking them down into component parts using similar analytical data where available. Work towards indentifying a set of potentially lucrative niches for further analysis. Factor in the competition. Is the market highly competitive and saturated? If so, avoid it, particularly as a newbie. Is the niche too narrow to support/sustain your business model? If so, rule these niches out as well. Are there any barriers to entry? In other words, can you enter a particular niche, capture market share, and successfully compete without spending a fortune, having highly specialized expertise that’s not readily available, having tremendous volumes of specific targeted content, and the list goes on. If the barriers are too steep, avoid entering the space. Continue to refine your lists until you find that you have a nice set of say 3-4 choices and research each a bit more while factoring in your passions as many others have suggested, but balance you passion with a healthy dose of solid fundamentals. Harness your passions, don’t lead with them blindly. The right amount of passion if conveyed properly is contagious and engaging. From here, select your target, start building, and leverage the great IM advice and potential partnerships found here. If you have strengths and weaknesses, identify them, play to your strengths, and supplement your weaknesses through continued learning, careful outsourcing and/or partnerships. This post just scratches the surface here, but hopefully it will provide a good road map for those that are willing to roll up their sleeves and work towards finding that proper set of niches that fit and will be lucrative for the individual or company targeting them. One word of caution, though: avoid analysis paralysis. Spending too much time performing the aforementioned research and analytics can yield diminishing returns if you get too caught up in it and don’t adhere to your business model’s timelines.

If you're just starting out, then asking to join someone's project is smart; however you should peruse the Mastermind forum and see if you can find a group in there that will suit your needs.

Actually you do have a niche, thousands of them. Niches are simply specific needs and wants and they are all around you. Before even picking a niche you need to get a handle of business basics as well as learning the fundamentals on what it takes to start.

A few topics you should learn about is copywriting, how to generate traffic using content / search engines / etc., how and where to buy paid advertising, basic website design, learning the proper jargon (i.e. Joint ventures, affiliate programs, etc.), and really spend the next 2 to 3 months exploring what's out there.

This is critical before even picking a market or a niche because you'll want to see if you want to make 1 - 10 page websites or blogs and paste Adsense / CPA offers on it, create and sell your own products, offline marketing where you contact business owners, marketing arbitrage, make software apps for portable devices, and so on and so forth.

Niches are easy to find. You can go Amazon.com, EzineArticles.com, and Magazine.com to get a TON of ideas. And Celente is right about niches. My 3 most profitable niches DO deal with: relationships and dating, wealth, and health. Each of these have dozens, if not hundreds of very specific niches. I narrowed it down to these 3 after researching and experimenting with a ton of different things.

Take wealth as an example. I've had websites that sold products and services that dealt with:

    Retirement Planning
    Estate Planning
Using Trusts and Corporations / LLCs To Protect Your Wealth
    Stock Investing / Pennystocks
Real Estate Investment / Flipping Homes In Orange County
How To Market Your Own InfoProducts
    How And Where To Incorporate

And the list goes on an on. Each of these targets a specific individual or organization who is interested in creating and/or protecting their wealth. And that will never go out of style.

As a side bar: I disagree with some of the comments about "passions". Look, it really depends on the individual. For me, I don't have to be passionate about a particular niche, but I do ask myself, can I be passionate about the business I build around it? Can I be passionate about bringing value to my customers? Is there profit potential? Can I build efficiencies in this market / niche so I can work less and get more ROI?

Certainly you should make list and write down your own hobbies and interests first, because for most folks, it IS easier to build a business around something you do have interest in. Ultimately, it's different strokes for different folks.

Do you have a hobby? Bee keeping, gardening, skydiving, pot holing or anything you can name. Do you have a problem you would like to solve? Are you fat, addicted to drugs, do you have acne, or are you addicted to sex? If so this is your niche. Start a blog. Add lots of interesting posts about your passion. Get warriors on this forum to check out your blog and if they give you a green light, then and only then! Apply to google adsence. Don't apply willy nilly because if you get turned down it is very hard to reapply. Once accepted continue adding two good posts per week and watch your adsence income slowly grow. Then rinse and repeat with blog number two.

    Good luck.

See what everyone else is doing and do exactly the opposite.

    If everyone is in the:

    1) IM niche
    2) MMO niche
    3) Health and fitness niche
    4) Weight loss niche
    5) Beauty niche

Then you should probably stay out of those.. and start a niche such in:

    1) Ancient History
    2) Sciences related
    3) UFO
    4) How to overcome the fear of height/spider/darkness etc
    5) and many more

I don't recommend you to write just for the sake of making money, do your research and make sure you have solid information to share/sell.

That's about it, hope this will help,

Interesting post Jeremiah. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do want to make a point here.

When I told my first IM coach that I wanted to explore the dating advice for men niche, his exact words were:

"Stay away from it. It's got stiff competition. I mean, I tried it and I couldn't make a go of it. Start somewhere else."

Then another well-known marketer basically told me the same thing. "Stay out of it, you won't last a week."

Well, they did know a lot more about marketing than I did oh those many years ago, but I decided to do some more research on my own. I studied the top 3 companies in that niche, ordered their products, studied their sales process, and found out where they advertised.

I also found out that the top 3 guys (back then, today it's a totally different market) did not:

      1. Use article synidcation.

      2. They didn't use press releases.

      3. They didn't use Plenty Of Fish, Facebook, and a lot of other ad networks.

      4. The top 2 guys had awesome newsletters, but the 3rd one didn't. In fact, most of the e-zines back then sucked major @#$%!!. So I made sure I always gave out top notch content.

It was a brutal first 3 months, but I managed to turn a losing website into a profitable because I chose not to listen to those two marketers. The lesson is not necessarily going against the grain, but to make sure you do your own research and make it thorough enough to ensure you're going to get a winner.

    OP: This is my advice.

Take 3 big, uber profitable niches...we'll say:

    1) Stock Trading
    2) Relationship Repair
    3) Credit Repair

All 3 are PROVEN money makers for online sales...meaning these ppl have no quams about buying digital products. All 3 have hungry crowds that have money to spend (credit repair less so, lol)

Now...what I want you to do IS...

Research all 3 briefly by going to niche specific forums...and maybe, just maybe...you actually take a liking to one of those niches!!??

If so...you are GOLDEN. Then just learn what makes those people tick in that particular niche...what they fear...what they hope for...who they trust etc....then you can get in to promoting products as an affiliate...and "push their buttons" while selling them things that hopefully actually help them.

Like everyone else has said just make one out of what you know A LOT about. Like I wanted to have a few snakes and lizards as pets so I had spent soooooo much time researching different kinds and ended up loving to learn about it! So when I was able I created an EXOTIC PETS blog.It is just good to know information and tutorials on caring for your weird and exotic pets. I already knew most of the information so the content was easy and already keyword rich so it was actually really fun at the same time!
    Hope it Helps

This is a good place to start. If you have some passion or some knowledge about a specific topic then you can get into that niche, there are hundreds of niches to consider. There is internet marketing like I am in, or there are other areas you can research. Then build a presence around that niche (website, blog, articles, email list, affiliate offers etc.)..
    Good luck

If you are still unsure about what niche to choose I would suggest you to not create an Authority website . Instead be an Amazon affiliate but you have to write good reviews and find good keywords related to the product niche you chose.

  • Yes , stick with the evergreen markets such as:

    Health & Fitness
    Money & Business
    Relationship & Dating
    Self Help & Personal Development
    Real Estate
    Gambling/Betting
    Green Energy

But what you want to focus on is not the broad market of ie. Weight Loss, but you want to try to break it down to a small group ie new mothers who are looking to lose weight after their pregnancy..

The target group is smaller , this way you can research the likes, dislikes, worries, fears, wants, needs, etc of this specific group of people in order to better provide solutions for their problems .

You've got to focus and specialize on one tiny area of a market if you want be able to compete.
