if you are banned from ebay is it for life?

Damm I ran into a glut of chargebacks and complaints 2 years ago (after being with them for over 9 years) and my account was suspended.

So..is that it? Under my name I can never use Ebay again? Any appeal?

What about opening a busines account? Do they want passports and bank account details etc?

I do not want to go stealth or anytihng crazy like that. I am sellnig 100% legit stuff etc. But it seems harsh once you ar banend that's it.

Thx

Only if you use a different address and bank details as they have already marked your details down as a banned member. This applies especially when it comes to creating a new PayPal account. You will need a new bank account to avoid PayPal picking it up. Sorry but these are the hoops you have to jump through to get in again.

Actually they can track your IP even if you register with your familiy members name. So the first step to take would be to use a different proxy/ip and then register with your wife/family member name.

even if you do use your your family or friend, if you are selling from the same ip address, or posting from the same physical address you may still get linked (guilty by association!) and be banned, just be careful, good luck

    • Aren't you forgetting about PayPal?

Unless you have a merchant account (and I'm guessing you don't) you have to have a PayPal account to sell on eBay. eBay is tightly linked to PayPal and they will see the flag on your account.

If you want to legitimately sell on eBay again, contact them. It may take a while but they might reinstate your account. If you create another account and get caught, there's no chance you'll ever be able to sell there again.

Surely that's not fair? So if one person ion the family gets an account banned that's it for the whole family? LOL. Surely that's not against something? Unbelievable.

but I do not want to do that. I want to be 100% straight woth them but it seems they are not open to it? I think it's unfair my wife could not use ebay now because my account was banned...I am surprised no-one has legally challenged this actually. It doesn't seem right.

It's a bit like if someonegets banned from say Walmart..the whole family is banned as well. It wouldn't be allowed offline. but I guess online anything goes still?

Dont they want passport, blood sample and eye scan as well?

To them your like an insect and if you get in their way you'll get squashed.

eBay aren't so much the problem. It's PayPal. I detest that company because they treat peopl like crap. Especially as they own eBay. Not many people realize that it's about 15% of your business your giving up to them just sell your products on there and then to get surveyed when you want to withdraw $100. 10% on final value fee and PayPal deduct 5% for your transaction. I'm so happy I got into online marketing and took my business away from eBay.

I recently tried to withdraw $100 and it said my account was limited until they did a check. This was a few weeks ago. Don't know how any company can do something like this especially when it's your own money. The money had been sitting there for months and it's not even a large amount to make a fuss over.

I think even if you want to use another persons name, ebay can still track your ip address. You should contact them and see if you can sought it out if not you can still try using someone else' name.

Whether you are banned for life or not depends on what you did to begin with. You should have resolved the issue with Ebay 2 years ago when you had the problem. That said, you should try to resolve it by contacting them instead of trying to open up another account as if you are caught, it would be a much more worse situation. As as Fluffy said above, Paypal would also be aware of the situation. They also track your IP address, even down to your computer log in name. There are ways to get around this but it is better to resolve it instead of dancing around it. All the best!

The best piece of advice I can give is you need to contact eBay directly. Explain what happened in the past. Let them know how you want things be fixed amicably. Ask eBay reps for things you need to do to resolve any issues.

You can change your bank account and cc, but you have to do everything perfect and not ramp up sales to quick after setting up the new account as you will get flagged for review and will have to enter your social security number which cannot be changed in paypal-- if you do low volume and don't piss a bunch of people off, then you can probably get away with it

If it's really important for you to get back on ebay, approach it as if you are a completely different person. These techniques work for most traffic sources, etc.

      New IP
      New address (Business address)
New Name (DBA, LLC etc. will usually work)
New bank account under new name (business name)

Is xyz traffic source going to ban all new users? No.

I doubt it's for life. But then again it depends of the cause. When I was doing eBay. I got banned(or suspended numerous times for shill bidding. It was a 2 week suspension each time.

PayPal on the other hand can freeze you forever until you provide them the documents they want.

PS. If you receive way too many negative feedback, then most likely it's a lifetime ban. But then again it all depends. You gotta be more specific.

There is an appeal you can do with eBay (I can't post links):
    Code:
    pages.ebay.com/help/community/poisec9reinstform.html
Good luck with that, though. Also, I am pretty sure it's more cookies related than IP address. I have used the IP of someone who got banned, and my account was fine. Using the same browser without clearing cookies of an account that is banned does cause problems. Like others have said, the IP isn't unique enough to you. If you had dial up or even broadband where the IP changes frequently, as soon as the IP of someone who was banned comes up, your account would also be banned. Not to much college kids at a dorm or anyone who logs in at work, all with the same IP.

I don't believe this because it doesn't make business sense. If you think about it, eBay realizes that there are probably multiple users of it's site in one household.

And if it were to ban one member of a household and the rest can't use it also, think about how much money it would lose.

Obviously this is just my opinion, and if you look closely at the person who wrote it, you will see that they have the word "may" in their sentence which means they don't know either and it's their opinion.

What I could see happening is they might flag that particular IP address, and require you to prove who you are.

that makes more sense, but an outright ban of the whole household? I highly doubt that.

Are you like talking about a legal name change?

If so that would take a very long time and would it really be worth it? I mean think about all the other areas of your life that you would have to change when you have a new legal name, and all that just to sell on eBay. Definately doesn't seem worth it.

Or are you talking about using a business name instead of his personal name?

If so, even if you use a business name eBay will still want contact information won't they? And won't they want to verify the business owner?

Or are you talking about just changing his name and using like a fake name?

so even if i started fresh under a new business name.....I couldn't do it?

I do not want to mess around trying to hide my id etc....but I think what they do is over the top. So does that mean my addres and for the next 50,000 years+ is also banned from ebay and every descendant ever passed down from me is now banned from Ebay for eternity?

No wonder people say "screw online!" You are at the mercy of the big businesses. (who act like pr**'s)

You are pretty much banned for life. A lot of the time when they reinstate an account its to gather your new data when they have say 35% of the same information linked between two separate accounts. Then you log into to use your old account and in the midst of your excitement, you get two emails saying both accounts have been banned.

So, in essence, if you and your wife use the same computer and you both run seperate eBay accounts under different names, different bank accounts, different credit cards, different e-mail addresses... but you share the same computer... you will both lose your account even if it is not immediate.

    I would suggest this:

Use all of your money in your PayPal account and buy something that can easily be sold on Craigslist such as a PS3. Then abandon the account. Don't bother trying to delete anything, eBay and PayPal will always keep your information. NEVER go to these accounts again.

Change your IP. There are guides online for this, and if you can't, request a new one from your ISP.

Run CCLeaner, Open up a new user if you are using Windows. Only access your new eBay and PayPal accounts with this new user information.

Find a local business that rents out mail boxes, but not a P.O. box. This will be your new address.

File for a two word DBA, such as "Dans Items" - on eBay, your first name will be Dan, and last name is Items.

File for an EIN - Employer Identification Number. This will be like your businesses Social Security number.

Enter in your drop box address, make a box number become a "Suite" number.

Change your cell phone number if feasible.

Open up a legitimate bank account with this information and apply for a Debit/Credit card.

Finish opening up your eBay and PayPal accounts with this information. Verify your bank account.

Get 50 feedback at 100% before applying to sell more than 100 items a month. Pay your taxes, your EIN is associated with your SS#. Only offer free shipping.

At some point, eBay will either call you or block you from listing and demand that you contact them to up your selling limits. They will ask you questions based on public information, such as where you live. If any of your own personal information shows up (like the street you used on your old account) - then you are linked and you have to start the entire process all over. If not, keep saying "D: None of the above" - you will be connected to an Agent who will not allow you to sell more and will demand your personal information. Say "This is a legal entity, you may use my number to contact me, but you will only obtain my business information and not my personal information" - You might have to do this two or three times, but eventually you will be systematically allowed to sell more than 100 items a month and will be notified by e-mail.

I recommend asking eBay and getting something in writing, ie submit a support ticket and ask if the ban is lifted now.

Getting an attorney letter can help, too.

    From past experience:

I was banned many moons ago for having URLs on my ebooks covers, back with top web marketers taught to do this (I'd learned about it at a well-known IM event). That web marketing teacher was a top seller at eBay, too, using this technique that was fine for quite awhile. He and others of us following his tips, though, were all banned. My ban was for 1 year. Not sure about the others.

A year or so later I was back selling there with URLs removed from covers, etc. and was banned for something else - this time selling low-priced consultations that eBay felt was not right to sell, yet was perfectly allowed in their rules, regs, TOS, etc., and has since even been turned into a Classified ad category (ie you can sell it that way now). That ban also lasted 1 year.

So don't know if that helps. Bottom line: eBay does make, break and change their own rules. You just have to go with the flow, take the "ban" as a time out, and move on. Don't ever count on it as a sole income or anything equally serious.

I'm curious, were you actuallly asking a geniune question or was this just a sneaky way to get your opnion into a thread about how you think eBay sucks and is unfair, without it actually looking like a rant?

It appears that you are choosing to listen to those who are telling you that your wife is not going to be able to use eBay either because of your past history with them, and choosing to focus on how "eBay is unfair"

This information might be true, or it might not. But the only way you will find out is to contact eBay itself.

They are the only ones who can tell you with absolute clarity. Anything else is heresay and only that person's opinion and not actual fact.

Ebay and Paypal are the same company. I do not use either one of them any longer due to their shady practices and how little they care for merchants. You really should research it and read a much as you can on bypassing Ebay bans. It's easy if you know what you're doing.

Most of us have horror stories about being on FEE BAY, but there you go. I know a lawyer who has his account banned because his wife was late shipping a product overseas. They banned both of em. He wanted to sue FEE BAY, but found out there is nothing he can do about it. Later he told me the whole story - that his wife was pregnant at the time and got real sick and was in the hospital and that the people did eventually get the item, but he was banned anyway. This is back in the bad old days before prey pal and FEE BAY were one company. Back then I got in trouble for using prey pay because bill pointer was their in house solution and they did not want people using a competing product - can you imagine.

I've heard you need to keep in mind that Craigslist, partly owned by ebay, shares info with ebay, and can link a new ebay account with an old one by your CL activities.

Some more hearsay is that you could even get your ebay/amazon account banned by logging in from a library that a banned user has also logged into from. You might be okay if you don't try to list anything from there, but again, this is hearsay, lot of that going around

When you were suspended 2 years ago, did you appeal? If you did so in a professional, courteous manner and still got banned, you probably don't have much of a chance.

If you didn't appeal, do so now. In your letter, acknowledge your guilt. Make it clear you've read over the eBay policies related to your offense. Explain that you understand the importance of these policies as they protect the entire community and keep the wonderful eBay marketplace alive and safe for both buyers and sellers. Express your willingness to strive to be a safe and lawful eBayer. You appreciate their policies and understand their purpose fully, and you would very much like a re-consideration for acceptance into the family. Something on those lines. Don't just blast off a letter. Think it out and most important, you must have the mindset of being guilty while seeking forgiveness. Good Luck!

If you took care of the issues and ensured that the buyers were properly taken care of like they actually got the goods you sold them and or got their money refunded then EBay will probably allow you to open another account or re instate your old one.
If you just walked away from the problem leaving people in the lurch then there is no way you will get back in.
