Is it worth it to find an established website that has good traffic and put my adsense on it to generate some income?

I wouldn't want to buy a site that would get me banned from adsense however so I'm not sure what I would want to look for.

Any insight?

If you buy an established site and put adsense on it then you better get ready to work. You will still need to promote the site.

Make sure you do a ton of research on the site before you buy it.

Go to websiteoutlook.com to see what the site is really worth and you will also be able to see what the daily traffic is like. If the traffic is pretty good and there are a ton of backlinks then it may be worth it.

    Good luck.

That's the quick way to do it... Sitepoint has auctions that you can enter to buy sites, and some folks profit from it.

I wouldn't depend on Adsense to "get rich"... sure if you have enough traffic you can make SOME money, but you'd need a substantial amount of traffic to see real results.

I'd prefer to build my own... multiple.. and increase my revenue streams.

Just my opinion. I've seen some GREAT sites on Sitepoint... I get alot of ideas for my flips over there

    HI freezo,

In case you are thinking of buying a website for generating income through Adsense then Do ask for the adsense earnings for the last three months, from the seller. Additionally, ask about his traffic sources--whether they are paid of free. In case they are pad, then don't go by the Asking price but rather decrease it by some 30%.

I think DP is fine for buying a website. At sitepoint, you are almost sure to get a website at a higher price.

Do ask any questions that you might have.

Well I'm glad you are starting here by doing some research rather than jumping right in and buying a site. I would suggest that you shouldn't buy one until you can confidently say you do know what you're looking for.

I've sold quite a few websites, and when newbies buy them they often have less than desirable results because they don't understand how to maintain the website and keep the traffic coming.

Additionally, you should understand monetization, and realize that AdSense may or may not be the best way to monetize a particular website.

I suggest that perhaps you could look into acquiring an expiring domain with traffic/inbound links, and developing a small site. Rather than shelling out $100's or $1000's on an existing site, you could pick up an expired domain (which previously was the home of a website) for as little as $9 if it is fully expired, or for about $60 on a snapnames auction.

You definitely want to follow the advice about asking for at least 3 months of Adsense revenues before you buy a site. If the current owner does not have Adsense on it, be aware that it's a big risk. There are some tools out there that will give you estimates on the Adwords bid prices (Micro Niche Finder is what I use), but it's spotty at best. Don't make the mistake of assuming a site's niche will produce good Adsense revenue. Research it if the owner can't provide solid stats for the past few months. And then be very conservative in your estimates. I've built sites around niches that research showed should get good per-click payouts, only to find they were dismal. Sometimes as low as 10% of what the research indicated. But there are some that are right on the money, and some that exceed what you expect. I guess I'm just saying, BE CAREFUL! The best bet is to only buy a site that the owner can show you past revenues for.

If you buy an established website that has really good traffic
forget about Adsense, sell advertising space or sell a product,
    or sell both.
