Why can't I get twitter to work for me?

As a bit of a newbie, particularly to social media marketing, I can't seem to get a handle on Twitter.

I send out regular teaser tweets, and have followed a few of the major players in my niche, yet have little over 2 dozen followers after several weeks.

My niche is I'm an author providing publishing guidance to new writers. I have an eBook which is doing OK selling from other sources.

I keep hearing that twitter is one of the best ways to promote a site, any advice please?

Thanks,

Brian.

Sounds like you're wasting your time on twitter.

I always viewed spending time on twitter for the sole purpose of gaining followers as a total waste of time. Who has it worked for (who wouldn't be famous in their niche already)?

BTW what is a 'teaser tweet'? Do you tweet anything of real value?

Is your twitter advertised on your main website?

    Good luck with your business.

What you say about twitter being a total waste of time is contrary to everything I keep hearing, but I'll take your view on board.

My tweets are designed encourage viewers to my site. It works for me on FB and Linkedin, but somehow I just can't get it to work at all on twitter.

I just wondered if I was doing something fundamentally wrong?

Twitter is NOT waste of time if it's used right way and if you connect with your followers in right way. Number of followers is not that important as this connection and interaction. But there is so many ways to learn it and i can't mention it all here. However i would recommend using AdRetweet – Retweet and Follow Exchange and Retweet.org - Twitter Marketing Tool - Free Retweet Exchange FREE retweet and follow exchanges to boost up your Twitter exposure....

Yes for all those who use Twitterfeed and other automated sites for posting, but when you act in person and connect with people, talk, mention, retweet, comment,advice... It's a different story, and it still works.
