HELP - Lost my "day" job

I've been a lurker here for awhile and used to frequent the old forum under another username. Recently started to learn more and lay the foundation of an online business. This forum is a real goldmine of information!

The company I was working for full time as a Fire Sprinkler System designer decided to let me go this morning. I'm now looking for ways to pay the bills while building my business.

Any ideas you may be able to provide would be awesome!

      Hi Tony,

      Sorry to hear about the bad news, that's never good.

      Something you may be able to do for a quick moneyspinner is put together some kind of PLR package and sell it as a WSO. For example, find a niche that's hot in clickbank right now, right say ten articles around that, and then sell a limited number of the packages in the WSo forum.

      If you sold them for say $12 and you limit it to 50 being sold, bingo, you just made $600. Of course there's a million variations on that, and a ton of other things you could do, but that's a pretty simple way to make some quick cash.

        if you are good at marketing online, why not research your niche about fire sprinkler systems, as you're an expert in the subject I assume and fulfill a need a demand that people in this niche are looking for?

        I know that's not quick money, but if you find the right market/niche..it may blossom over the long term if their is a market for your expertise.

        Hi Tony sorry to hear about your loss,

        If you're starting from scratch in IM Its gonna be a long haul but you can start earning money right away to get your feet wet with affiliate marketing.

        Also I suggest not buying everything that captures your attention. The best thing to do is find something you find very interesting that you would like to try out and learn everything you can about it.

        Instead of jumping around from method to method, stick with one thing until you make your first sale.

        The other option would be that if you have a little bit of extra money is to find an experienced mentor or coach and work with them so they can tell you exactly what works and what doesn't and how to do it. So you won't be spinning your wheels wasting time.

    You could always do some freelance work. Associated Content is a pretty cool site, they'll pay you $4-15 for unique articles, or you could always head over to DigitalPoint/SitePoint forums, they list freelance jobs as well.

          Thank you all for the support. As for my interests and talents, I am a huge sports fan (mostly golf, basketball, baseball, football). I have experience with AutoCAD, some HTML and PHP coding, graphics design, and Microsoft Office software.

          After my original post, I received a call from another Fire Protection Contractor that I have done some freelance work for recently (and haven't yet been paid for). He was letting me know I would be getting paid in the next couple of days and that he has two more projects for me. At least that's some good news!!

          While I don't mind doing Sprinkler Design, I ultimately plan on transitioning to IM full time. Thanks again for everyone's support and suggestions!

    The best and quickest thing to do is apply for unemployment. You said you got laid off so this is 100% guaranteed unless you did something stupid to get fired. You sound like too smart of a guy for that to happen so go get your $1400 from the government right away.

    WIth a little bit of work you can make some decent money to get you through the difficult time. There are many methods of promotion that are free but that require a fair bit of grunt work like youtube, article, offline promotion.

    Its a realtively easy way to make a few extra bucks though.

    Sorry to hear about that. Losing a job sucks... I've been there. In fact, it's probably one of the main reasons why I decided to freelance, and then eventually start my own company.

    But, there are a few things that you can do right away to make things easier:
    • File for unemployement. You (and your employer) paid into it, so you have no reason not to get some of it back. It's your money.
    • Look for work. I like the idea of finding your previous employer's competitors and pitching them for a job. What do you have to lose?
    • Until you find new employment, keep plugging away from 8 am to 5 pm writing articles for whatever products you are an affiliate for, just as if you were employed...

    It's important to remember (as Frank previously mentioned) not to be distracted by all the shiny "get rich" offers you see here on the forums and the web.

    You may be in a lot of pain right now (it's always a little bit of blow to the ego when you are let go, no matter what the circumstances around it)... so that makes you susceptible to falling prey to the emotional buying triggers that so many skilled copywriters are legendary for using in their copy.

    There is no get rich quick "secrets". It takes A LOT of work to get there. But, now that you have some free time on your hands, don't waste it. Set a goal of 10 quality articles per day and get writing. In a month, you will have 300 articles out there working for you night and day.

    The absolute fastest way to put a good check in your pocket is to offer services to brick and mortar businesses. Even if you don't know how to do the services yourself, you can easily outsource them in various places.

    Start thinking about WHO you know, more than WHAT you know. A little networking and who know's this lay-off may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
