      What domain is best?
I want freefood.com, but is a EMD. How to do?

Best domain is free domain. Most good names are taken right now.

A brand name is a marketable name for your business that you can grow and that is memorable for your customer. If "newegg.com" named themselves "discountelectronicsparts.com" then they wouldn't have had nearly the amount success that they have.

They also had the start-up capital to advertise the name properly and make it more or less of a household name. Most IM'ers don't so they've tried in the past to get EMD's as that was a loophole in the algorithm to give them an edge up on the competition. EMD's still work well (though not AS well as before), you just need to fill your sites with better content and more content. A brand name doesn't necessarily have to tell you what the site is about (think "yahoo" or "google" like a previous poster said)

Another example: (I have no idea if these are real sites)
howtogrowagarden.com (<-EMD based around a search phrase... boring)
GardenWarriors.com (<- Brand that's memorable and more marketable long term)

At the end of the day it all comes down to the quality of the content on your site. I always choose domains based off the human factor, not the search engines. I'd suggest you do too if you're looking for long-term growth. I just got a gem the other day for $12 that if I told you what it was, you'd never forget the domain as long as you live and you'd know exactly what the products on the site were. That's what makes a great domain and a great future business to grow long term.

          aydt is not a word
How about fafaf.com (food and fun all free)

          what does aydt stand for?

aydt is unique, because it is not a word.

If take "fafaf" or "aydt", how to advertise it? the key is I have not start-up capital.

A brand name is something you create out of nothing. A word cannot be found in any dictionary....

Anybody who says EMDs are a curse in itself don't have a clue. It is all about writing quality content where the EMD fits in rather than trashing spam unrelated to your EMD. Ranking EMDs is still the easier way to go unless you start on a wrong note.

If you are going to build a website related to free foods, why should you go for freefoods.com? It is not a brand name. Brand name will be something very unique. It will be different from any other names. Microsoft.com is a company name and brand name too. Your company name should be your brand name.

free FOOD? then you shouldn't take the domain freefood.com

imagine mcdonald's is called fries AND burgers.
    Subway - Sandwich
KFC - Fried Chicken (without kentucky)
Long john silver - Fried Fish

A brand name should be something more catchy and unique IMO

A brand domain name is something unique and easy for people to remember YOU. It doesn't have to come from the dictionary. A good example is Groupon.com vs GroupBuy.com (or something similar).

Branding is any word you choose, preferably short and can be remembered!

Already many people have posted this but like facebook.com, it has no keyword "social network" in it, thus people all over the world know about it.

Long term online business site = Brand domain
    Short term = Keyword domain
