Newbie to Email Marketing---Help?

I'm new to Email Marketing as well. I bought a book (360 Pages) on pure email marketing. That's the best start I can think of.

You collect emails via an online form know as a squeeze page. The email addresses are then stored in an auto responder which will automatically send your pre written message to your email list at determined schedule such as once a day etc. The main thing to remember is to nurture your list or else it will become un responsive. This means you need to provide real value in your emails to your subscribers in order to build trust. I like the following saying

Give first...sell second

if you try to sell straight away the will put their barriers up. However, if you provide great free content, training and advice etc in your emails they your subscribers will love you for it and then they will WANT to buy from you when you do send a promo to your list. Hope thst helps

Email Marketing is a tough industry to get into for many reasons. I know this based on years of experience. You first need access to a mailing platform. There are two main options here: renting a platform from a ESP or developing a custom platform. Developing a custom email platform will require extremely advance programing skills and a ton of money. Hell, even renting a mailing platform from an ESP is very pricey these days! Once you figure out what you will be using to mail the next major obstacle is finding quality data to run. After all that you will need to learn how to mail well (have an understanding about IPs, domains, creatives etc.). All in all, like I said before, email marketing is a tough industry to get into but is very profitable if you know what you are doing...

Email marketing is another method to do business and building relationship to your contact list. Some people found it easier than have to do SEO things to get more sales.

To start email marketing, you should start building the list, below are some action you will do to build the list:
- Prepare a free product, it could be an ebook, video, software, etc.
- Create a squeeze page with opt-in form and download page
- You should have an autoresponder (aweber, get response or mailchimp)
- Prepare for some products to sell, could be your own product or affiliate products
- Prepare for some email sequences

The mechanism are:
You will redirect prospects to your squeeze page and offering them a free product. To get the free product, they should fill in the opt-in form. A few minutes after they filled in, they will get an email to confirm the subscription. As soon as they're confirmed, the download page will be send to them. It's all happened after you set up the autoresponder.

With that list of subscribers, then you can start to do email marketing and having relationship with them by sending them valuable articles or info and offering them products that you would like to sell....

Several posters here have sufficiently answered the original poster's question...but I would like to add that you need to send "broadcast" emails out as well as your follow up series...your follow up emails will only last so long then your list will forget about you after a while...

Remember the concept of reciprocity with your broadcast and follow ups, never ask for money until you give your subscriber something they consider high value for free.

1. a squeeze page (use optimize press with wordpress)
2. a free product to give away (ebook / video course)
3. an autoresponder (aweber)

This will get you started.. I recommend you take a look at some of the list building WSO's as they should help you with the technical aspects of list building.
