Please Help- I Am being Robbed

G'day Warriors

I've requested a fellow blogger to stop stealing my work.

I've sent him a number of emails asking him to remove all my content and he refuses.

Not only that, he is still stealing my work and even sending out the same emails I send out to my subscribers.

Is there anything I can do?

Thomas

If he is doing it via RSS, just include links to helpful pages on your site and roll with it. If it is a manual effort, create a great product and promote it in your mails.

  • Send his host a DMCA take down notice. Watch your content get removed.

How is he getting your emails? Is he subscribed to your list?

      Hi Wade

He must be subscribed to my newsletter.

I like the idea of contacting his host.

How can I get this information?

    Hi TKO,

This is unacceptable and I checked the host for you. The guy's site is hosted with Hostgator. You can go to Hostgator.com and send a DMCA.

File a DMCA with his host to get your content taken down.

If you know his IP address you can also block him
from your site (if you host your own domain) with
an .htaccess file in your root directory.

Just make a text file and put:
      deny from ip.number.goes.here

Save as .htaccess and put in the directory you
      want to block.

If he trys to get in via anon you will see that in
your logs - just block that too.

It's not a stop all - he can still get in on other
wi-fi networks but at least you won't make it
      easy for him.

DMCA, as others have said. It's the only way.

Once content is published on your website first, if anybody else publishes it then it doesn't harm you at all. If at all, the other website may be tougher to rank all things being equal.

BTW, delete his email from your list.

Hostgator is pretty fast to act on this one. It's good to hear that his site is hosted with HG... Good luck.

You might be right if the world began and ended with how Google deals with content found on multiple sites. While most of the SEO types hate to admit this, there is territory beyond the edge of the backlink world.

Every time someone finds the stolen content and buys from the thief, it damages the original owner. Every time someone signs up for the thief's list instead of the original owner's, it harms him. Every time someone does find both copies of the same content and wonders who stole from who, the original owner is harmed.

OP, when you file your DMCA notice with HostGator, cc: the thief. If he's using one of the popular autoresponder companies (Aweber, GetResponse, etc.), cc: them as well. You don't just want your content removed, you want the thief taken down to the point he doesn't want to just start up again with a new account.

No need to ask. He's looking for an easy payday, and doesn't care if he damages someone else along the way.

I have an idea that goes further than a DMCA takedown, which involves a jar of honey and a fire ant nest, but I'm told that's considered cruelty to animals...

    Real easy to settle this.

Do a "whois" on his domain, then contact his hosting company.

I guarantee, his content will be down within 24 hours.
