Hosting suspended account, What can you do to get it back?

Hi

A hosting company our company has used has suspended our hosting due to they say they found a complaint on a fourm about them that we are supposed to of made.

They say they wont give our data back or wont un suspend the account.

We have said amicably that we will get all of the posts removed

What can we do legally with regards to getting our data and site back as we cant access the cpanel?

Thanks

That's a tight spot to be in for sure. They don't have to give you back anything so you might be out of a forum. All you can really do is just keep up discussions with them. Look for sources of "higher up" contacts in that company online and try to get someone in that company to listen to reason and give you the data.

That's a bit contradictory. Did you make the post - or not?

That might depend on which country your host is located in and the laws of that country. It might be worth contacting a lawyer and asking if you have a lot of data tied up.

    Dare I ask .............. Backups?

Also, as a previous poster said, can you access your account via fpt software?

      Hi

I have not tried the fpt way,

It was a employee who posted the thing on this forum, and the company sells hosting on this forum

Can anyone contact me on skype to disucss about the ftp method of getting the site back?

      oasis.dating is my skype

      Thanks

I am a bit wary of posting who the company is as they sell hosting on this very forum

All of my emails for my finances are using a email i used on the hosting

I use the emails with this account on the hosting to have contact with my childs nursery and all of my chillds bank accounts etc

I have a problem with a company that suspends your account because of a derogatory comment. That's just blackmail in my mind.

If a business suspends their customer service because of negative feedback on their services then they should not be in business.

Mark, looking at what you had it would maybe be best to start over with a new site maybe?

If you have had a member of staff "post" or "act in a liable" manner, then maybe a letter to the said hosting company, from them might smooth it over.

As your site was only an affiliate jump site to another CPA site in the industry, you may have burnt your bridges by posting in public anyway, also the cost involved V the new start up may not be worth it

PM the WF member(s) who hosted it and try and make amends, it may help as the cloudflare account where you site was mirrored is the only other option if you have no cpanel|whm|ftp access to the space.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS do a back up of EVERY SINGLE SITE, it is your business and your lively hood so things like this will not happen again.

Try to get somewhere with the Host, if not start over

Were you breaking a law? Hosting companies don't have to cooperate with you if you are doing something unethical or illegal. It's in their best interest to stay away.

I think there is more to this story than one derogatory comment. If sites were shut down from one derogatory comment there would be no facebook, ebay, paypal, etc.

I checked out the hosting company's WSO's and saw a similar issue on this post by Frank Ayres:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ml#post6498602

I believe the OP if for no other reason than there's an undertone of "No Service With Bad Reviews" in that post.

The member WGOHOSTING should be banned for coercing buyers of his WSO into removing negative comments.

That kind of behavior from any member is intolerable and pisses me off.

Absolutely. It is against the WF TOS, whether written or unwritten, to bully people into removing bad reviews from unhappy customers and they should be banned for it.

This hosting company is obviously pretty dodgy. Since they don't act in a professional way, not sure what the OP can do to get his data back. If they are a US company, he could sue, but that will take time.

What about reporting to the WF mods. If WF is a good income stream to them (which I would suggest it is based on the fact they were annoyed with your comments) then they may play ball if the other option is getting kicked from WF for breaking the the rules.

I was subscribed to that WGO thread, and saw the reply this morning. This is what the OP of "this" thread replied with:

Listen to what they say now, they wont give me my website back

    Hello,

Unfortunately your account has been suspended due to violation of our terms by calling us a scammer and false accusations on a public forum.

Though your website was resource extensive and ddos vulnerable , we still moved your account to one of our isolated server as a special favour.

Since you have not been co operative and violated our terms, we won't be re activating your website in any case.

    thank you.
    abuse@wgohosting.com
Unfortunately your account has been suspended due to violation of our terms by calling us a scammer and false accusations on a public forum.
If this is the reason they did this, this company is a joke. I would suggest you take this over to Web Hosting Talk - The largest, most influential web hosting community on the Internet

It also seems that the OP of this thread posted about them not communicating a few days ago. While you shouldn't have shot off calling them scammers, they also shouldn't be letting tickets or thread replies sit for days either. If you were unable to login to their systems or support desk, they should have contacted you after posting that reply other than just saying WF isn't a support desk. At the end of the day it isn't, but if they have a thread there, they should at least attempt to assist you the best they can.

EDIT: Looks like you've already been over to WHT.

And judging by this thread, they're not very experienced or lack sys admins...at least that's what I gather. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...ght=wgohosting

Tried to sell & sold here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...ght=wgohosting

I have a feeling it won't be very long before something turns into a disaster.

First move: IMMEDIATELY get new hosting for that domain and set up the email addresses on the new host. Or just change the nameservers to your registrar's parked domain system. That keeps the old host from doing anything funny with accounts linked to those addresses. Not saying they would, but you never know, and it's not worth the risk.

And always, always, always keep backups of critical data.

And, unless you have absolutely no choice, avoid these "$10 a year unlimited" nonsense plans at all costs. That's just begging for trouble. It is simply not possible to deliver what those offers promise with any degree of dependability.

Seriously. I have a dedicated machine that won't handle what some people expect to get from a super-cheapo discount shared plan.

If you're running around publicly accusing people of scamming customers, you can pretty much expect that they'll drop you as a customer. That's just common sense. Especially if it's not true.

Now, if the negative comment was more on the lines of "I've had X problem with the service and they aren't responding to support requests," they have no business keeping your data, in my opinion. But, my opinion plus what their TOS says is worth exactly what their TOS says.

As far as the rules here, we will stomp sellers if they refuse to refund someone until that person removes a negative review. That's known. We do not, however, generally get into service agreement issues that are outside the forum. If the posts they're referring to were made on another forum, that's not our area to poke around in at all.

There are limits to what's appropriate for us to mess with.

That said, I get the impression there's more to this story than is being told so far. The host may be completely wrong, and they may not. It's irresponsible to rush to judgement without at least having reason to believe we have something close to the full story.

The OP has posted nothing but negatives about this seller since he joined this forum. He posted eight complaints - one right after the other - in the seller's WSO ....after the seller had answered him and contacted him. This isn't the first complaint thread he's started about the same topic, either.

If the OP wanted to report to mods - he should do it himself with proper documentation. He's demanded instant service on hosting for $9/YEAR.

I don't know the pros and cons of the seller - but I can't blame him for canceling someone who seems intent on damaging his business. I don't believe "an employee" posted the rants or that the site lost was a profitable one in the first place. I think the OP believes if he complains enough - someone will solve the problem for him.

there is a different unhappy customer being threatened with non service due to a negative review, so while the OP may be completely out of line, you won't find me standing in line to buy hosting from this company.

          Why?

There isn't a bloody thing I, or anyone else here, can do about it. WGOhosting has sold their customer base. They are no more. Plus, the transaction, the accusations, and the dispute occurred outside the forum, so it's none of my business as a moderator.

          What purpose would it serve?

Sorry, but this isn't the first web host advertising here on WF that has chased customers down, or threatened to stop their services. There have been multiple to do this. There was recently another that had multiple people over on WHT (not familiar with WF) that complained about this as well as a few users here.

Realistically, there's only a "few" web hosts advertising here that provide legitimate services, the rest are kiddies thinking this is a get rich overnight thing then disappear or play childish games with customers.

If you notice these hosts that popup run somewhat ok all summer long, come fall, sh!t hits the fan, every year, like clock work. Roughly right about the time school kicks back in...coincidence? I don't think so.

EDIT: Like I mentioned above, I think using the term "scammer" may have been a little overboard, it's certainly not fair that if you have a legitimate complaint, the WSO holder threatens to stop your services. If you've paid for it, you have the right to give your feedback, even if it's bad. The problem is, none of them want to have a "bad" review on their WSO, which is complete bs.

I'm in the middle of the road on this one since I don't know the entire story, but it seems like with some "companies" you get a faster response time by making it a public issue, which shouldn't be the case.

If they shut down his hosting, won't let him get his files, and (I'm assuming)won't refund him since they aren't providing the service he paid for, I think the term "scammer" might be quite accurate.

Good web hosting don't do that anyway. That's blackmail and pure sadistic anyway. If they don't want the customer anymore, fine, but release the files..

I don't think we can read that about more serious companies.
But I agree about the cheap costs also, if it's too cheap to be true, then it isn't true.. :-)

As for getting it back just to host it elsewhere, well I have no idea really.. The only possibility would be that they agree, and how to make them agree, I don't know.

But if the site was simple and most of it was not server side, then using google cache to get back the content and then yes anyway the solution is to host it on proper web hosts, not some cheap ones who advertise here and elsewhere.
The normal, big, hosting companies don't need to advertise on forums like this by creating a thread.

Hello ... are you crazy? You just paid the same company for hosting again? You almost deserve what you get. If you're not willing to pay for a decent host, you may as well not build sites.

You could also use a tool like `wget` to try to mirror your site. A really last-ditch effort approach here. And it's going to grab rendered content only.

Back-up is critical as others have said - it's 2012 already - shouldn't we all know that message?

Easier to migrate to a different host - vis-a-vis legal action.

My guess is that they pull the "EIG" card, run as multiple brands and don't tell anyone. They probably are showing up under google as "cheapest hosting" or "cheapest unlimited hosting" or some crap like that.

Wow I am a bit of a newbie but this just sounds totally foreign to me ... thats like going and spending $300 at wal mart and as your leaving you say "man this store is stupid" and then all of a sudden security comes out and takes all your items and kicks you out of the store empty handed. Like WTF??

Sorry I have no useful information to help you because that is just wacked lol

This sounds like something that should be on "American Greed"--I'm not sure if it should be the hosting company or the client or both since they both seem like they are trying to get something for nothing.

If you deal with cheap ass, fly-by night companies that are looking to sell their client base at the drop of a hat it shouldn't be surprised that you get crappy service.

And 20gb ain't that big--you can get a flash drive or an external hard drive that will hook up to your USB port that can handle it.

I'm truly sorry if you can't afford a better company but you shouldn't allow your business to depend on such a cheap company with no back up or alternative, you're just asking for trouble.

    oasisdating,

You COULD try FTP maybe. Warrick sounds like a #$%^&* company. According to the about screen, they are only for people that have INCREDIBLY simple sites, and likely for ones that will have inferior versions of THAT! FORGET IT!

I earlier saw a post about wget. That is only a LITTLE better than Warrick, but probably won't work, and WHY BOTHER? wget is NOT FTP! FTP allows you to, with a STANDARD PROTOCOL, access ANYTHING that user has access to. WGET allows you to only download what the website will allow one to see. If your website server is down, IT WON'T WORK! That's another thing, ftp is built into the UNIX/LINUX init process. You ask for it, you've got it. wget only works if the server is already up.

Yeah, you SHOULD keep backups. Today, for most of the planet, they are cheap and easy. As for the host? Many say they reserve the right to shut down your site. That doesn't mean they own it.

And downloads should consist of TWO things!!!!!!

    1. SOURCE FILES and their objects! WGET can NOT fully do that, and FORGET WARRICK! IT can't do it EITHER! You have to use FTP or some similar protocol.

    2. DATABASE INFO, PREFERABLY as HUMAN READABLE AND COMPUTER RELOADABLE FILES. That USUALLY means SQL or delimited. There is NO protocol that can be used to reliably copy that outside of that provided by the DB manufacturer. That means using some product, like phpmyadmin to access MYSQL to use SQL to get data, for example.

And Paul is right, the shared systems are NOT massive supercomputers loaded with gigabytes of memory and tens of terabytes of disk space. Figure it THIS way! A server that is beefy and made for a "rack", could EASILY cost several thousand dollars. They could ALSO cost over $300 a MONTH for data access! And they might have 2TB IF you are lucky! They might need 1TB for excess, growth, O/S, etc.... So you have like 1TB. so 1TB and it costs maybe $5600 for the first year! Can they sell it at $10/month? SURE! Just sell it to 600 people! They figure maybe 10% will use it, so they only have to worry about 60 customers. Still, if everyone used all the space, that is a max of 4GB, though they will try to keep it at like 2GB. And what about BANDWIDTH? The STANDARD used to be about 1MB or about 40 times that, for the WHOLE SYSTEM! And each increase in speed means it costs more.

The fastest and most effective way is to threaten them with legal action.
Yes, you have to be prepared to pay for a reasonably good lawyer.
Although, a well formulated thread usually does it.

BTW, if they feel you've defamed them, ask them to sue you. If not, it's all part of the free speech laws, and they have to give your content back.

Well, I remove everything I said here, in fact after reading the rest of the story, I think the OP is asking for trouble..
First, who doesn't have the ability to download 20GB?
Secondly, why go for another unknown/shaddy host instead of the well known ones?

Why cheap, cheap, cheap? No money? Then first work to get some savings. Having proper tools is called investing, that's the first step. Cheap means cheap in every ways.
And yes of course the cheap hosting are often from cheap people, just a whois on the wgo domain name was enough to give some idea of why not take it for any important site.
If you take cheap because you don't want to pay more when you can pay less, then this is a way of thinking I don't like. I'd rather focus on earning more money than saving more money. That's why I don't like the idea of buying everything cheap, but I know other peoople have other way of thinking, fine, but then don't cry after.

OP is asking for trouble and then wanting others to help, well take responsability for once, and help yourself, then maybe others will help you.

A bit patronising mate, not sure if that was trying to be helpful or not lol, i am entitled to my data am i not,? No or yes?

I have bought a vps from their sister company so yes have invested, But guess what they are not replying either.

If i have paid for a service i expect it, if it does not work then i need a refund or and get my data back, that is how business works doesnt it?

Ummm... A few people here are confused about the content issue. The host did not say they own the content. They said they own the server, and were discontinuing the customer's access to it.

The root cause of the dispute appears, based on the limited information available, to be the customer's use of excessive resources for the plan they were on, and their failure to adjust either the resource use or the plan. If that's accurate, all the ranting and posturing after that is pretty much irrelevant.

I have never seen a hosting contract that doesn't have a "Keep backups because we're not responsible if they're not available" clause. Some only include the latter part, but that rather clearly suggests the first, no?

It is axiomatic in a digital business that you keep backups of critical data. If you don't at least know that, you don't have a business. You've got a hobby. (Doesn't mean your backups can't also get borked, but that's another issue.)

Now, if this is a dating site, and uses MySQL, the customer may be well and truly screwed. A cheapo account like that often won't have the resources to properly deliver an SQL dump of that size.

The screen shot of the host's email doesn't contradict what I said, which is "the root cause of the dispute" appears to be the resource issue. The escalation after that is just a failure to resolve things.

I may be missing something, but I don't see the problem with the cPanel based on that screen grab.

Here's something you seem to not want to acknowledge: You will only get so many resources for $9 a year. That includes human time, which is at a premium in any hosting business. What you want is pretty much a non-issue if your demands significantly exceed what you've paid for.

What did you really believe you were going to get for 75 cents a month???

This has exactly NOTHING to do with the Warrior Forum. The WF is not a help desk. The WF is not a complaint board. The WF is not your personal blog.

There's nothing the WF can do. It's all on you now -- you need to work this out yourself with the people and companies involved. And that doesn't involve continuing to post about it here.

I understand that but isnt it amazing how quickly they respond when the complaint goes public.

Also it might help the warrior owners to look more in depth and the companies who they are letting advertise on the forum

So why dont wgohosting reply or the sister company as they are active members of the forum.

It might help you to delve into the companies that you do business with yourself. The WSO section is an advertising venue, much like the classified ads you find anywhere. They do not "delve" or investigate to any length all the offers that are here. They do moderate the section for general TOS violations.

You want to pay $9/yr for hosting, you got exactly what you paid for. And then to go on and buy again from a sister, mother, parent, brother, father, or uncle company of the same company is beyond belief.

And then when the 75/cents/month hosting doesn't work out, as of course, it really, really should at that price ... you use the WF as your personal complaint and support desk.

I would have just deleted this thread long ago, back on the first page somewhere. The mods here are very patient.

I have no comment on the company. Point is, you're breaking the WF Rule #1 and your buying decisions are what is at fault here. There's not anything anyone on the WF can do for someone who thinks that you'll get reliable hosting for $9/year and buys again from the same company after getting burned.

Of course I recommend Hostgator. Not only do they have excellent customer service, but they have reliable hosting.

To give you an example, my site that just went down, right after I replied to you, the phone rang before I was able to fire off an email to Hostgator. It was Hostgator on the phone. It appears that my site is consuming ungodly resources and it may be time to do to dedicated, which I've been expecting for some time now. My site is safe and sound and I'm working with Hostgator to see what solutions are available.

If you open a Hostgator account, they will move the site to their host for free. That's another big plus for you, but do make sure that you buy the right plan to start off with.

You should simply not have bought it from them in the first place. That's what I would have done just by basic research into the hosting service.

Business works also by word of mouth, so if you value your business you should not chose only by price but by reputation, and what this company has in terms of reputation?
Have you only looked at how their whois entry looks like?
    It is not even serious..
Domain hosted at g-o-d-a-d-d-y, first bad point, don't you think?
    Now the administrative contact is:
    shehzad, khurram adambunny@gmail.com
    Houston
    Houston, Texas 77002
    United States
    +1.5598694422

shehzad, khurram adambunny@gmail.com sounds like a serious business in web hosting, don't you think?
As for the address it is totally bogus and the owner is from Pakistan..
How do I know? easy, take the phone number:
    http://www.whitepages.ca/phone/1-559-869-4422
It is a landline which forward to pakistan, as can be seen on this very trustworthy site:
    webhostinginpakistan.net/reseller-hosting-how-to.htm
    "Call for Technical Support 1-559-869-4422"

Are you out of your mind to expect anything from that?

If you want proper web hosting, then it was up to you to do that basic research and more..

Now you complain, fine, but it wouldn't happen like that if you had done things properly in the first place, now what do you want to do against someone like that? Nothing, that's it. Yes you could expect proper business practises from a US based company, but not from random people especially who are not living in a western country! That is not prejudice or racism, it is common sense since US based people and companies have an incentive to do proper business and it's because they risk something by scamming people! This is not the case everywhere!

If you don't like my answer, fine, but maybe you should start take responsability instead of complaining.. What will be your next move? Searching for yet another cheapest offer out there, or go to the proper web hosting which has track record, and at least mixed reviews?

But if you enjoy complaining, then go on. At first I sided with you, but after doing a basic research, I feel that you should have done it YOU before even considering hosting with a ghost.

A: This forum is not the Internet's tech support desk.

B: Stop with the pointless screen grabs, please. They just waste disk space and bandwidth, and consume members' time downloading them.

Wait, WGO hosting said they suspended the OP's account for 2 different reasons... Is it due to resources usage or because the OP was pissed and took the issue to a public forum?

OP- I posted a link for you to look in the offers section of WHT - did you look there? If they are not responding, you need to move on.

If I'm not mistaken, you started a thread about cPanel being all jacked up, which I gave advice & replied to your emails from our contact forms about some things. Why did you not take my advice?

It says plain as day in that email "from our parent company".

As for the resource issue, "if" there's even a problem, read through some of my past posts that explain how this works. Your so called unlimited hosting is way more limited than you think.

EDIT: Also, it would be nice if they could give you some test results from ps aux or top, or show you the process usage and/or how they determined the site was using high resources.

EDIT AGAIN: Here's what I think is going on - and this is just my opinion -

    1. cPanel is jacked up, corrupt cache, problem on the server.

    2. OP contacts support, doesn't get a response.

    3. OP starts a thread about the cPanel problem.

    4. OP comments on their WSO & get's a generic "this isn't our help desk" reply, but they didn't answer the ticket.

    5. OP makes a comment about them being a scammer on their WSO out of anger.

    6. WGO hosting doesn't like that, so they suspend the account.

    7. They say they suspended it because of the public comment/high resource usage - which is it?

    8. After the issue is made public about some questionable practices, they allow access to the site.

    9. Then, they upsell a VPS from the parent company.

Again, this is my opinion, based off of the threads, replies & the email that the OP sent through our contact form, which was questions about the cPanel being messed up.

The WHIOS info is fake as well, which was already noted above I believe.

That is a spot on assesment of the what is going on

Here is what they say , but still the sister site is not respoding to the purchased VPS

You should *****NEVER***** deal with a SISTER company of a bad company! NEVER! I boycotted a rental car company because they did NOT know how credit works, and DIDN'T CARE! They ran needless inquiries which, in the US, hurts your credit. They even tried to LIE to me! Well, I made a mistake and did business with a sister company. NOT because I chose to but because I didn't bother to check. At THAT point, I didn't know that probably EVERY car company runs at least two brands. Their sister company pulled the SAME garbage on me, and I saw it on my credit report! SO, NOW I am boycotting THRIFTY AND DOLLAR!

BTW at this point, I have done business with EVERY popular rental car company in the US. That is about 9 companies. ONLY Thrifty and dollar gave me problems. EVEN if thrifty and dollar end up being cheaper by hundreds of dollars, I IGNORE them! f they were the only ones(They NEVER ARE), I would TAKE THE BUS FIRST!

BTW Often sister companies use the SAME resources! With the car companies, it seems the front end retail has the brand name but almost everything on the backend has only ONE name. SO, though you are dealing with a sister company it may be, in a very real way, the SAME company!

As for the screen shots? I have had no less than THREE people that I did NOT help ether because the screen shot ate up all my time, or I was so mad at the waste of resources that I figured FORGET IT! You do EVERYONE a disservice by using screen shots. It looked like they gave you a backup though, and you should be happy with that. HOPEFULLY you understand the site, didn't use proprietary things you don't have a license to use, and the database was LOCAL. Better check it QUICK!

OH, and shared sites, are ONLY good for low volumes of visitors doing low volume stuff with programs that use low resources! A dating site is only good if there is a HIGH volume of visitors! They want to see pictures, hear voices, compare, and research, so that is high volume stuff. The programs may use more resources.

If you want to do WELL, you SHOULD get a dedicated site. If not, get a lenient shared site that states they keep usage down. That may cost like $30+/month. and make sure the software is efficient.

Let's calm things down a little.

I know next to nothing about webhosting which is why I chose a popular hosting for my sites and have had nothing but excellent service from them over the past 5 years.

But, unless I'm wrong, the solution is already in this thread.

Why not just download your backup (as in the screenshot in post #62) and move on?

Choose a reputable hosting company with consistant good feedback and begin again.

What has happened is regrettable but not lifechanging.

Get your backup files, get good hosting, put your website back up and put the whole thing down to experience.

Don't let one bad experience get you down - move on.

Well, I would give you help BUT, it sounds like it could end up with hand holding I don't care to do at this point. I guess that is to be expected. I mean with a suspended account, you are generally at the mercy of the host!

Yeah, I could have worded that better. I meant the vague question that obviously had no clear answer indicates that maybe you don't know much about the back end of the site, etc....

It is POSSIBLE that you could simply UNTAR that backup and be up and running in SECONDS!

The MORE likely scenario is that paths may have to be changed and databases may need to be created and loaded. You could be up well within an hour.

ANOTHER likely scenario is that, after getting the stuff loaded you may need other libraries. That could take MORE time. ALSO, versions may be wrong.

FURTHER, it may be using something the new site doesn't have, like JSP!

You can see how a simple thing can become more complicated!

              Hi

              Steve thanks,

But it looks like wgohosting is not in business, so i bought a vps from their sister company, but again they have not responded,

So maybe i pay someone just to get the site downloaded,

Should i wait until i get a response from their sister company

I understand that but isnt it amazing how quickly they respond when the complaint goes public.
                Oooops.

You didn't want to admit to that being your goal. We do not allow this forum to be used for that sort of complaint leveraging. Now you've got two accounts banned. This one will come back, but you can wait for it.
