Who On The Forum Is A Full-Time Freelance Writer?

As in, you make a living writing. You pay the bills with words.

I have sooooo many questions to ask that person, I'm wondering if a private chat would be ok?

You're too funny. Freelance writing isn't that hard to get into depending on what kind of writing you want to do. Website writing seems to be the area which requires the most articles, but you could also find online and offline publications to where you can submit both fiction and non-fiction stories.

This should go as a instant classic type of response haha So true.

Yes you can definitely make a living as a writer and there is an abundance as long as you work on your skills and always do your best to give the clients what they require.

More and more people are getting online in search of content which they need for their websites. You need to have the mindset that there is abundance and as long as you focus on being the best writer you can be you will have writing work ready for you to take on.

Make sure you establish a presence whether it is here in the warrior forum or even on Facebook so your future clients can get an idea of who you are.

Wish you the best on your journey!

      This.

I'm not even one of them (or at least I'm "my own only client": I haven't written a word for anyone else for over 3 years now, and "don't do that"), but I used to be one, and I know there are dozens here ... and I really think you'll probably get more valuable opinions by inviting a selection of views than by identifying any individual person (good and well-informed though writing Warriors are!) and considering their experiences/advice in isolation.

    Touche, guys, touche

I'll give it to you plain and simple, then, short and sweet.

My dream job - I work from home, with relatively fewer clients on my list. Those clients pay me .08 a word to research and write about their topics.

Why - It's what I loved to do back in college: research, brainstorm, research, write, research, rewrite, proofread...and then do it all over again. It was a not-so-vicious cycle that hooked me back in middle school. I do it in my free time. And to make a LIVING as a professional researcher/writer, so to speak.... that's a dream come true, folks.

Question is - who in this world hires people to do such things, where do they hang out, and how can I convince them to hire me?

    Thanks, guys

Yeah, I don't do it anymore either. Now I work for me. But I did freelance writing for more than a decade, and I made a lot of money doing it.

There are a number of markets for freelance writers...

The forum of course is one, but it is typically a lower-paying marketplace. With that being said, there are a few freelance writers within this forum who rightfully command and get higher rates.

I sold my freelance writing services on my website, then advertised my services by writing articles and getting them syndicated to major online outlets.

A friend of mine has set up a website to demonstrate her writing portfolio, then she contacts corporate clients and offers her website as proof that she can deliver the goods. She typically gets paid 50 cents per word to do what she does.

So a standard 500 word article would earn her $250? Not bad at all.

Yes, but she mostly writes in the 2500 to 4000 word count.

There's no single specific or definite place where 'clients' hang out. You need to find a way to be seen and be heard. Instead of looking for them, let them notice you. How? As a writer, I believe you know the answer to that. One of the many ways to get noticed in this forum is by being an active member of the community. Be an authority in the niche you're an expert at. Answer more often than ask.

You may also want to open a sales thread in the Warriors For Hire section. That's one of the places where prospects go if and when they need some content.

I think what a few people have said is important. Freelance writing is pretty hard going. It's so much easier to write about something you choose. Or maybe 'fun' would be more appropriate.

I'd definitely work on your own business while writing for others. Even if you have to do it a few years you'll have something to show for it. I'd hate to be sitting there after a few years and have nothing but money in the bank.

This. Otherwise, your income stops as soon as your writing stops. You can work on your own business/sites with as few as four hours per week. Earlier this year, that is all the time that I spent on my sites.

Copy writing is writing sales copy.

I have only ever sold informational copy, but only recently sales copy.

Unless you have studied copy writing, I would not recommend trying to sell it.

Is the Kindle market really that lucrative? It seems like the market is oversaturated with people who want to make a lot of money writing spammy ebooks.

I definitely wouldn't recommend this site. I joined it because I saw people mentioned it on the forums here, and honestly it isn't worth the time. People on there want full length articles for one or two dollars. There is an elite level you can reach that pays more, but it's still nowhere near a living wage, and from what I can tell it would take several weeks of full time work to get to that stage.

That said, if anyone here can recommend a similar but better platform for writers, I would be interested in hearing about it. I'm working on putting together my own site to market myself as a writer, but I still have to pay the bills somehow.

Elite writer earns roughly $8.10 per 500 word article. Write 2 500 word articles and 1 300 word article in an hour and you're earning over $20 and hour.

or write 2 700 word articles in an hour and that's $20.26/hour minimum you would earn.

A writer doesn't even have to be Elite on iWriter to earn $20 per hour.

I am only a premier writer and I only earn $4.05 per 500 word article. I can easily write 5 in an hour and make $20.25. All it takes is 10-12 minutes per 500 word article. When you have experience on the topic you are writing about, it becomes extremely easy to write fast with still a lot of quality.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this. If you are writing 4 articles an hour, the quality can't be very high, even if you are writing on a subject that you do not have to research.

As to the comments regarding elite level writers, isn't this the top level at iWriter? If so, that would make it even more improbable.

Quality writing takes talent AND time. There's just no easy way around this fact.

                  That's a very subjective comment.

Yes, Elite level writers is top level. If you you can write an article with decent English skills, being Elite is not difficult to achieve. And like the person above stated, he is not Elite and still earns over $20/hour.

                  Another very subjective comment.

The fact is, iwriter doesn't need more writers. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to write on iwriter. We have nearly 90,000 writers. What I am trying to do is set the record straight that earning $20/hour is definitely doable. MANY writers on iWriter earn this amount and more. We have stats to prove this.

Let's say that just 9 of your writers are Elite writers (.0001%) You're not looking at $20/per hour at will as you seem to have suggested more than once. I think we both know there are a lot more than 9 Elite writers as well. On top of that, four of the articles have been there for at least a month, with the earliest in June. So at best, you're looking at 10-15 active projects on any one day.

Of course, we could track available projects over time if you'd like, and at all different levels at well. But I'm seriously doubting that it is going to paint the prettiest picture when it comes to the earning potential of the 90,000 writers you already have, and the others that still join.

                      Just sayin'
What you are "just sayin'" makes no sense. That is not how iWriter functions.

                      1. A project does not equate to 1 article. Most projects have anywhere from 5 to 50 article requests. The project will remain open until ALL articles have been written. In fact, this project has 112 available articles to write: http://screencast.com/t/GSuNuqjuQ Each paying $10.13 per. And the requester has a 99% approval rate.

                      2. Projects come and go almost immediately. A project sitting in the queue could be a rejected article project that was re-added for someone else to write.

                      3. The bulk of earnings from iWriter come from private writing requests that you will never see publicly.

                      4. I never stated that the average writer earns $20/hour. I stated that if you want to earn $20/hour with iWriter, it's very possible. We have plenty of writers doing that.

                      5. Joe, by all means, track whatever you need to track if you really care that much.

This conversation has quickly become very very silly. I can see that I will, apparently, always be wrong here, so I'll just leave it at that.

                      Have a nice evening.

First of all, iWriter rates your first 30 articles. When I first got started on iWriter, I was stuck at a 4.5 or 4.6 rating because of my inability to write extremely quality articles and most of them got rejected at first. This alone costed me my entire rating.

Just because I only earn $4.05 does not make me a bad writer. It is just that iWriter does not allow us writers to easily attain better ratings that quickly. I still get rejected, and each rejection brings my rating down.

I don't need you to come into my face and tell me that I am not good enough. I was #1 for months beating out thousands of writers. I have just stopped recently because of my ability to make big cash elsewhere.

I know my writing is good, and more than 3,400 accepted articles can prove it!

I would try to create some sort of a list of clients, and remind them once you finished the job, that you offer other services. I do not know if iwriter lets you do this, but would be a good way to get a list, and to get bigger higher paying jobs.

              That's pretty good.

If they write 10 500 word articles in an hour that's $81 per hour.

Of better still, if they rush their little balls of and write 50 500 words articles in an hour they could make $405 per hour.

I think iWriter is a pretty decent place for someone to earn a little money, BUT...

You know what the conditions the customer for elite articles set and I find the way the owner of the company is trying to say it's possible to write that much in an hour is enlightening.

I'm just regurgitating the stats we have in our admin area. It's sort of like split testing. Everyone has their opinion on what is going to convert, but the stats show which one converts. I'm not guessing here. I'm stating the facts based on stats. I thought I would be helping by sharing what the correct answer is, but apparently some think I'm just pulling this out of thin air, which is not the case.

What I find even more funny is an actual writer on iwriter earning more than $20/hour actually posted here and yet it's still impossible to make that much on iwriter. He even wrote a course on exactly how he's doing it...

                So...

                1. You have the owner of the website who has all backend stats stating many people earn over $20/hour.

                2. You have a writer, who teaches people how he does it, stating he earns more than $20/hour.

                3. Yet, we're somehow wrong. lol...

I guess that just goes to show how forums tend to turn into opinion fests, no matter how much data is provided. Oh well.

I was wondering if you had backend stats.

                  And it's not an opinion.

This isn't me attacking iWriter btw, which I think is a great tool for people who need money, but I'm very unsure of the stats you're saying you have.

Even if someone could manage to earn $20 in one hour, could they A) Do that for more than a few hours before burning out, and B) Do that all day without getting rejections.

Because I can't help but think although you could earn that first $20 in an hour:

You wouldn't get lucky with jobs that have easy instructions all the time
You'd be writing so fast they could get rejected
You would actually have to weed through the crap jobs which takes time
You would get burned out after a few hours

Most people that set instructions are idiots. They ask for the world and pay less than $10. Again, that's not iWriter's fault.

And you're very lucky if you have writers who can bang out 3 elite level articles in one hour.

The data says yes. The user who posted in this thread and created a course on this also says yes.

Would I personally want to write all day, no. Would you? It sounds like no.

I'm just answering the original question with the correct answer, because in this case, there is a definitive answer. I'm not basing it on my own opinion on what I would prefer and wouldn't prefer to do.

Please remember that all people are different, no matter how much we can or can't understand it.

                    Brad
P.S. In the screenshot I showed you, that paid $10.13 for an article, you would only need to write 2/hour, not 3. Would I want to do that? No... but that's why I use iWriter, because there are people that do it.
P.P.S. Ok, I'm really done replying now. Thanks for the nice comments about iwriter.

        1. You can write on almost any topic you want. YOU get to pick the article topic a requester is asking for. You have more than enough time to write an article.

        2. It's as "bulk" as you can get. There is no cap. You could write for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year if you wanted to. Not sure exactly what you're saying here...

Hey I am a full time freelance writer and I have been so for over 3 years. There is nothing like freelancing; it feels like spreading your wings and flying rather than working. Believe it or not, I am a Pediatrician and I abandoned regular medical practice for a full time work-from-home freelance writer position.

I've been a full-time writer for the last 7 years, it is entirely possible to make a very handsome income doing this.

Just stick with it, and persevere. I see a lot of wannabe Internet Marketers fail, and then decide that they will switch to content writing, some do well, mostly they fail at this as well.

The most important secret is never, ever compete on price. That is a road to pain.

I have done freelance writing recently. But don't like being told what to do much so now just write for myself!

I did mixture of well paid SEO web content for companies who deal with their offline clients and also lower paid internet marketing stuff.

Writing online press releases is also a good skill to learn. A simple PR for SEO purposes is not any more time consuming than an article and people are prepared to pay much more for them.

Hi, I've been working mostly as a sales copywriter for the past 5 years, but I have on occasion provided content writing services for clients. Most of mine come from having a website that promotes my services and using article writing/online networking to drive traffic, and I've also offered website visitors free reports over the years to build a newsletter list of prospective clients I can email when I want to bring business in. But of course that's more of a long-term strategy; when I was first getting started I used freelance sites like Elance.com, Guru.com, and oDesk.com, where you basically apply for freelance writing projects. Met a couple of great, long-term clients this way. Best of luck to you!
