As in, you make a living writing. You pay the bills with words.

I have sooooo many questions to ask that person, I'm wondering if a private chat would be ok?

  • I pay the bills with money, but I do get that money from words, lol.

    • well played, sir
    • You're too funny. Freelance writing isn't that hard to get into depending on what kind of writing you want to do. Website writing seems to be the area which requires the most articles, but you could also find online and offline publications to where you can submit both fiction and non-fiction stories.
    • This should go as a instant classic type of response haha So true.

Yes you can definitely make a living as a writer and there is an abundance as long as you work on your skills and always do your best to give the clients what they require.

More and more people are getting online in search of content which they need for their websites. You need to have the mindset that there is abundance and as long as you focus on being the best writer you can be you will have writing work ready for you to take on.

Make sure you establish a presence whether it is here in the warrior forum or even on Facebook so your future clients can get an idea of who you are.

Wish you the best on your journey!

      -Will

  • There are many of those on here. Warrior "Ettienne" is one I know of, sure you can drop him a message.

  • Fixed that for you.

Just ask the questions, because there are dozens of us.

      This.

I'm not even one of them (or at least I'm "my own only client": I haven't written a word for anyone else for over 3 years now, and "don't do that"), but I used to be one, and I know there are dozens here ... and I really think you'll probably get more valuable opinions by inviting a selection of views than by identifying any individual person (good and well-informed though writing Warriors are!) and considering their experiences/advice in isolation.

  • Touche, guys, touche

I'll give it to you plain and simple, then, short and sweet.

My dream job - I work from home, with relatively fewer clients on my list. Those clients pay me .08 a word to research and write about their topics.

Why - It's what I loved to do back in college: research, brainstorm, research, write, research, rewrite, proofread...and then do it all over again. It was a not-so-vicious cycle that hooked me back in middle school. I do it in my free time. And to make a LIVING as a professional researcher/writer, so to speak.... that's a dream come true, folks.

Question is - who in this world hires people to do such things, where do they hang out, and how can I convince them to hire me?

    Thanks, guys

    • Yeah, I don't do it anymore either. Now I work for me. But I did freelance writing for more than a decade, and I made a lot of money doing it.

There are a number of markets for freelance writers...

The forum of course is one, but it is typically a lower-paying marketplace. With that being said, there are a few freelance writers within this forum who rightfully command and get higher rates.

I sold my freelance writing services on my website, then advertised my services by writing articles and getting them syndicated to major online outlets.

A friend of mine has set up a website to demonstrate her writing portfolio, then she contacts corporate clients and offers her website as proof that she can deliver the goods. She typically gets paid 50 cents per word to do what she does.

There's no single specific or definite place where 'clients' hang out. You need to find a way to be seen and be heard. Instead of looking for them, let them notice you. How? As a writer, I believe you know the answer to that. One of the many ways to get noticed in this forum is by being an active member of the community. Be an authority in the niche you're an expert at. Answer more often than ask.

You may also want to open a sales thread in the Warriors For Hire section. That's one of the places where prospects go if and when they need some content.

  • I am not a freelance writer. But I run a freelance writing agency. I do it full time except that I also have a design unit and am starting with IM. But currently my only source of income is my writing business.

    • I think what a few people have said is important. Freelance writing is pretty hard going. It's so much easier to write about something you choose. Or maybe 'fun' would be more appropriate.

I'd definitely work on your own business while writing for others. Even if you have to do it a few years you'll have something to show for it. I'd hate to be sitting there after a few years and have nothing but money in the bank.

  • Article writing, blog writing, and eBooks interest me most. I love writing informative pieces; I explain things well. What kind of marketplace is there for that kind of writing?
  • Try and become a kindle book writer. If you do well then you will probably make a killing
    • [1] reply
    • Is the Kindle market really that lucrative? It seems like the market is oversaturated with people who want to make a lot of money writing spammy ebooks.
  • Jest go to http://www.iwriter.com/(not af link) and register as writer . This website will keep you occupied for sure .

    • Make sure you read the reviews of the requester.
    • I definitely wouldn't recommend this site. I joined it because I saw people mentioned it on the forums here, and honestly it isn't worth the time. People on there want full length articles for one or two dollars. There is an elite level you can reach that pays more, but it's still nowhere near a living wage, and from what I can tell it would take several weeks of full time work to get to that stage.

That said, if anyone here can recommend a similar but better platform for writers, I would be interested in hearing about it. I'm working on putting together my own site to market myself as a writer, but I still have to pay the bills somehow.

    • Pays peanuts. Is inflexible with deadlines. There isn't any bulk work there either.

  • Hey I am a full time freelance writer and I have been so for over 3 years. There is nothing like freelancing; it feels like spreading your wings and flying rather than working. Believe it or not, I am a Pediatrician and I abandoned regular medical practice for a full time work-from-home freelance writer position.

    • I agree with this. Even though I work for someone else I'm having the greatest time of my life, and I've never felt more free.
  • I have been providing my article writing service for a long time as a freelancer but now i only write for my websites

  • I've been a full-time writer for the last 7 years, it is entirely possible to make a very handsome income doing this.

Just stick with it, and persevere. I see a lot of wannabe Internet Marketers fail, and then decide that they will switch to content writing, some do well, mostly they fail at this as well.

The most important secret is never, ever compete on price. That is a road to pain.

  • Not full time but i have been working as a writer off and on for about 5 years now
  • I have been a full time writer for the past 4 years; I live in India and live a decent life...all by hitting the keyboard
  • I am a full-time freelance writer. I have been writing for iWriter and other freelance sites alone and have earned more than 5 figures over the past 12 months alone. I only started writing about a year ago. If you have any questions about getting into this industry, feel free to ask me. I also have a WSO out, just check out my signature.

To show you proof of who I am, my name is Joel and you can see my name on the very front of iWriter.com.

Again, do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to know anything about this industry.
  • Check out the Warriors for hire, someone in there will be able to help you

  • I have done freelance writing recently. But don't like being told what to do much so now just write for myself!

I did mixture of well paid SEO web content for companies who deal with their offline clients and also lower paid internet marketing stuff.

Writing online press releases is also a good skill to learn. A simple PR for SEO purposes is not any more time consuming than an article and people are prepared to pay much more for them.

    • Hi, I've been working mostly as a sales copywriter for the past 5 years, but I have on occasion provided content writing services for clients. Most of mine come from having a website that promotes my services and using article writing/online networking to drive traffic, and I've also offered website visitors free reports over the years to build a newsletter list of prospective clients I can email when I want to bring business in. But of course that's more of a long-term strategy; when I was first getting started I used freelance sites like Elance.com, Guru.com, and oDesk.com, where you basically apply for freelance writing projects. Met a couple of great, long-term clients this way. Best of luck to you!

  • Tons of full time freelance writers are here. So ask your questions rather than confirming who is the writer and who is not.
