Download page question?

Hi,

On my download page I give people like a two paragraph little blurb on the freebie they're about to download then link it to them.

Should I do this or should it just have the download link instead of the blurb?

Also, a minor question. My page has a red background and white area where the text goes. I've seen other people use a plain white layout so I'm wondering if its better to go that way? I might be overthinking things but can this affect conversions?

Thanks for all the help!

Well the only way to know for sure is to test it, right?

If the "blurb" adds something relevant, interesting, or of value as an incentive to click the download link for the freebie, then what's the problem?

It may be best not to call the page "download page" since a lot of marketers use google to find download pages. In addition, on the download page there is another chance of marketing other product(s) before the requested download take place. I like using a white background with black/red texts. Keep it simple

Jeremy is right. The only way to know for sure is to test it. In marketing sales pages red typically means passion, and green means good, go or money. But on download pages or buy pages, red means stop, caution, or you made an error. Blue on the download page serves to calm them down, reduce buyers remorse, and assure them that they have made the right decision. This is only my experience though. You should test your results to see what works best for you. My experience for the download page has lead me to believe that the download button should be the most prominent thing on the page. Everything else is secondary. A blurb is fine, but probably put it after the download link along with a possible upsell offer. Hope this helps.

well if they're already on the download page itself why are you worried about conversion rates? haven't they opted-in already to get there in the first place?
