Clickbank robbed me of my money...

So I just found out something interesting about Clickbank, here's the scoop...

I set up an account a while back to do some testing on a certain segment of traffic and I make just one single sale of $35.96 through this traffic. Super, I now think I have a $35.96 check heading my way... (with a new account the only option you have for payment is a check and the minimum threshold on Clickbank is $10.00.)

Several months go by and I find a little piece of paper with some notes on it. It's a CB username and password I completely forgot about. So I immediately log in and remember that $35.96 sale I made several months back that I completely forgot about... come to think of it, I never got that check either!

As I'm digging in to see why this Clickbank check never came in the mail I can see deductions being made of that $35.96 sale, very similar to this: -$1.00... -$1.00... -$1.00... -$5.00... -$5.00... -$5.00 every few weeks until it reaches $0.00.

That's why I never got that check in the mail. Apparently if you don't recur enough sales over time Clickbank will not pay you for those sales.

This is something to take a mental note of, especially for newbies just starting out and making their first sales on Clickbank. Make sure you get enough sales coming in until you actually see that first check in your hand!

Lesson learned.

Thanks for reading.

    Haha.

    yeah.

I actually have like 3-4 accounts that owe me "$40" "$35" etc. (One even owes me a few hundred dollars)

You have to meet some guideline which dictates that the orders must be comprised from FIVE different credit card numbers.

This is to prevent abuse, so I can't complain really.

Also to prevent people from buying their own stuff (or using their affiliate link) for the sole purpose of making money.

It is part of the rules as laid out by Clickbank. Just one of their ways of skimming your money off of you.

You want to play their game, they make the rules. And they will always make them to benefit themselves. If you want to make your own network, you can make your own rules.

      Robbed ?

You mean they applied the dormancy rules explained in their policies section - which you agreed to.

That's the Customer Distribution Requirement - not the same as the dormancy policy.

I read about this before I signed up. I ended up signing up and tried promoting a few things. I only got a few hits but no sales. I stopped because I know that if I don't make the minimum (I think it's more than $100.00 now) then they start charging you. I think this is very unfair. For instance, I put in a lot of time, effort and spend a lot of money on flyers promoting something. In a way I'm glad I didn't make anything because then I would have never made the minimum to request a check. The only way I will promote a niche is if I was working for the person directly, not some big company that has minimum payouts.

The dormant account charges, to which you refer, unpleasant though they are, come into effect only when your account hasn't had a sale for 90 days.

All you need to do, to stop that from happening, is buy one $3 product through your own affiliate-link, and that resets the clock and gives you another 90 days.

One sale penalty. So does that mean you better have marketing figured out to make it worth their while.

Yes! I saw someone put up an ad somewhere that said: easy money, pick a product from clickbank and promote it by using flyers and you will make easy money. I ended up spending more on flyers then anything else.

        There's some confusion here.

The minimum amount of money in your account before ClickBank will pay you (the payment threshold) is $10 (default $100).

ClickBank only charges you if your account goes dormant.

You have to have 5 different sales by 5 different credit card numbers, one of which must be a Visa purchase, one a MasterCard purchase, and one a Discover card purchase. If you do all this, AND your balance is over $10, only then they will send you your money. This is their safeguard to protect against fraudulent affiliates.

I had that happen to my account too when I first started it up a long time back, but figured per the guidelines that unless I gained those 5 different transactions from five different people / cards / etc., that it would continue that way. You have to hustle early on to get some sales to get things going. I haven't had those kinds of fees happen for a good while now since it did back then. I keep my CB account active though as well so no dormancy fees for me (and I don't plan on seeing any either).

Side note, dumb question as I honestly didn't know, but are you allowed to buy products from your own affiliate link??

      Yes, you are.

(Many people do so, to qualify for the Customer Distribution Requirement, to avoid the Dormant Account charges, and to have a look at products they're thinking of promoting, if the vendor has a "no review copies" policy).

        That's not quite correct

        From ClickBank's site:

ClickBank will withhold payment of any account balance until the following criteria is met:

        * Sales made with 5 or more different credit card numbers; and,
        * Sales made with two different payment methods (either Visa, MasterCard, PayPal or European Direct Debit(ELV)).
Note: PayPal purchases do not count toward the minimum 5 different credit card numbers.

This is what I thought also.

Where did people get the idea that it has to be one on Visa, one on Mastercard, etc?

I have never had a problem with clickbank and have had pay periods where my sales were only Visa, Paypal, and Mastercard and I still recieved my money.

Seems to me that a lot of people are mistaking the "5 different credit card numbers" meaning different brand name cards.

Could someone clarify where people got this idea?

            From ClickBank's website.

The part where it says "Sales made with two different payment methods (either Visa, MasterCard, PayPal or European Direct Debit(ELV)). Note: PayPal purchases do not count toward the minimum 5 different credit card numbers."

Because almost nobody ever pays by European Direct Debit, and PayPal purchases don't count toward the minimum 5 different credit-card numbers, people got the idea that there has to be at least one Visa payment and one Mastercard payment among their 5 qualifying transactions for the Customer Distribution Requirement.

            And they're right.

That's because you've already qualified under the Customer Distribution Requirement.

This has happened to every newbie, I'm sure. It happened to me when I first started, I start out in a niche I didn't like -- and even though I made a sale, I left the niche because the people in the niche drove me up the wall.

This is why I tell me that before you open a new Clickbank account, do your research ahead of time, so you'll know beforehand if you want to stay in the niche long enough to get your first check and what not. If you find you don't, there's no point in opening one.

yeah this is a little annoying but it does make sense although I too agree that it's just a way for Clickbank to make more money.

so you can do a few things:

You can continue to make sales on the same idea not get another 1 for every offer

or if you're old enough money then you can do an advanced search and find products you can purchase for 3 to 5 dollars then use your own cards plus friends family members pay them to use their card

because sometimes you can get several sales by a paypal in be owed 300 400+ dolllars and you can't get the money otherwise

    Like it or not

►This system pulled in over 25,000 sales in 2013 right under your nose and you probably laughed at it. But while you were laughing we were laughing all the way to the bank. Some to the tune of 6 and 7 figures. This year 10 times...

The Customer Distribution rule is a one-time requirement (not every pay period)
