Question about using Youtube & Clickbank

So after trudging through many a product (a lot which made me want to run away from their page.. ), I finally found a product that I know something about and I feel comfortable selling on clickbank. Now I thought about various strategies, and one of them is using youtube. As you know, youtube allows you to put a link to whatever it is that you're selling in the description. The clickbank people selling the product have a webpage where they sell the product.

My gut feeling is telling me, first create a landing page and then on the landing page use the my clickbank affiliate link to direct people to the selling page that the vendor has created. However, I'm seeing on youtube various people using their clickbank affiliate link to go directly to the selling page.

The reason I ask is because I know that youtube is definitely against having direct links to Amazon, people putting their Amazon affiliate link right on the video. So, I wonder if its the same for a clickbank affiliate link, even though, in this instance, the product varies and you're not going to clickbank, you're going to a webpage created by the people selling the product, with a completely different url than clickbank.

So, the question is, is it smarter to use the landing page and then direct the persons interested to the sales page, or go directly from youtube to the sales page? Does youtube frown upon using an affiliate link under this scenario? Any info appreciated, thanks.

Yes, but they don't know what they are doing

If you want to sell products, you need to be able to learn how to pre-sell and you can't do that unless you send your visitors to a lead capture (squeeze) page and begin the relationship-building process.

Thanks Will. Well, that's part of what I call the landing page. They'll have an opportunity to sign up for a free gift, related to the subject matter, and they can also click and go to the product selling page.

Hi, quesquaya. I am using a very similar method as you described in your post. I think Will has the best long term strategy, but it won't hurt to split test both methods first.

For example, you could first make two similar videos for an offer. Put up a wordpress site or blogger blog (which will rank depending on your keyword selection and some seo/backlinks) as a presell page for one video.

Then direct link from the other video to your offer to see which one performs better. Then go from there. A little more work but, could pay off big as well.

thanks djax, it's a good idea to try it both ways. Making a wordpress page for me is very simple, so that's not a problem. My concern is, is youtube going to take down the video because of the direct link?

Personally, I have not had any issue with direct linking. I imagine that if you become over excessive or spammy with links and youtube starts to notice, I guess that is could happen.

A good way to avoid any issues to use multiple accounts. Use pinger.com to create different user accounts and phone numbers.

Use those numbers to open different gmail accounts which will allow you to create multiple youtube accounts. You should never use your primary youtube account to promote your offers.

An email list will stay with you and keep making you money. I think email marketing is the way to go.

thanks for the head's up on pinger. I so far have created a couple of youtube accounts, but still using my name. I will see what I can do with pinger.

I was getting tons of views and clicks but didn't make any sales. Then I started sending the youtube traffic to my squeeze page and used jv swipes as follow ups. I then made at least 2-3 sales a day. Now I make about 5 sales a week and I haven't logged into my account for months.

From personal experience, I would suggest you use a landing page or even your own affiliate website where you write reviews. But try not to put the direct affiliate link in the description whether its clickbank or not.

I am currently testing this. I don't have money to purchase aweber and I'm not sure what type of give-away I can do so I skipped the landing page altogether for the time being. I am currently testing this by putting up a single video and purchased a domain with the product's name in it. The domain will do a 301 re-direct to my affiliate link (sales page). My video has been live for 3-5 days or something like that and I am hoping to see ranking in about a week from now. Hopefully it'll go pretty well
