My sucky website update.

I got owned a week ago when I asked "why has my website bombed" and I got a FLURRY of criticisms and have made some adjustments. I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind looking at my new and improved website. I'm hoping some of the guys who just destroyed me when I initially posted would mind checking out my new update. My website is fitnessofthegods.com. Any NEW critics will still be HIGHLY appreciated!

Then why are you hiding that optin form at the bottom right corner of your page? You should bring it up, make it more visible.

You can even be more aggressive and try those scripts that blocks the user from browsing until they opt in or click the cross button. Worth a shot since you "need to build that list" .

Getting there. You need images of ripped men and women now...to make us all feel self conscious about our own appearance...obtained legally of course.

I highly recommend a slider with images of beautiful people that click through to your top articles.

That will catch peoples eyes when they come.

Yes. But at the same time, you have to kick people in the pants to motivate them...otherwise they do absolutely NOTHING...that's just how people are.

It takes strong motivation...look at all of the top fitness mags and sites...they all have pictures of beautiful people...because that's what it takes.

Damn bit you are right lol. Mens Fitness doesn't have a picture on the cover of some dude who just looks like he takes a jog every other week.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I'm sure what you have in mind is an excellent idea but it's hard to understand through pixels I guess. lol

Get a designer or buy a premium theme. You need to look professional if you're going to sell anything! The design doesn't have to be AMAZING, but the site doesn't look structured and it looks a bit all over the place. Doesn't look like a fitness site. Keep going though, you'll get there!

ok, so do you have any suggestions for a premium theme? And what's the difference between the theme I have here and a premium theme?

What exactly does "all over the place" mean? At first I thought that it meant my site couldn't really be navigated easily. I thought I fixed that with organizing the categories.

Well pfft! You find out who it is and I'll pay them for sure! When someone talks about hiring a designer I'm imagining $200 - $500 to design a blog. So that is why I'm hesitant to hire a web designer.

Yeah, like being said. You need to change your design. This whiteness is really obnoxious. It feels like you forgot to upload your design to your hosting.

It's an improvment, but you're not there yet. Your images that show up in the image boxes ... most of them only take up half of the image box, which looks weird. They are also not images of really ripped people, so somehow seem irrelevant. You need some good images sized the right size for those image boxes. A good image slider on the front page shows readers what the site is about and highlights your featured posts. Your header should also do the same ... show people what the site is about with some images. You could hire someone to do a nice header for you in Warriors for Hire and it wouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

Here's a guy who does great work
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...ge-design.html

    And here's another one
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...io-inside.html

Somewhere along the way, you have a completely irrelevant, nearly pornographic pic of some girl laying on a bed wearing hardly anything at all. That's really not the kind of traffic you want. Use photos that are relevant and not just used for attracting drooling pervs.

Sign up for free stuff is not a very strong call to action. I wouldn't sign up for free stuff. I might sign up for something that I really wanted or because the information in the site was so good that I signed up for the newsletter to keep up to date.

OK, well we all started like this. I think it's good you have taken the first steps. Don't take criticism too seriously just pick out the ones that will HELP you. F**K everybody else!

I would fix your page title tags first. Where it shows "Fitness of The Gods - Fitness, health and motivation etc. etc......" you need to put your primary keyword instead. Install "All In One SEO" plugin which gives you control over your meta tags and makes it easy to override the default Wordpress settings. One step at a time and you will get there. Hope this helps

  • See friend landing page has to be really good. This is still an old version you really need to update it. Simplicity is a good motto but there has to be some pastel colours and images which would be eye catching.

The site looks like it is still "under construction". The font for headers is hard to read. Very long headers. Lack of images, graphics. Initial comments will help to build reputation.

Ok - you've made a good start with that theme - I'm saying that because I know the theme. It's Montezuma from Bytesforall - the same guy that designed Atahaulpa.

It's a brand new theme "framework" that uses HTML5 and CSS3 - so it's responsive and using the latest coding that Google should like.

As I said, it is brand new, so people are just learning customisation. Even their support guys are learning. There is an excellent support forum, btw. forum.bytesforall.com - and there is a Montezuma thread on there. I think the customisation I posted is the first one to be submitted and they made it a sticky.

I spent a lot of last week learning how to customise that theme - til my brain hurt. But I'm getting there. It needs you to edit the css and php files directly.

    It is worth persevering with.

Don't suppose that really helps! If you like, you could PM me for further discussion, I don't really mean to hijack this thread.

When I said a bit all over the place I meant that the theme doesn't look complete. It looks like it's a site that isn't finished yet, and not quite pixel-perfect in terms of placement of images and content. I would also invest in a logo? It doesn't look like a fitness website, think a logo will help. You're already on your way as it looks like you have loads of content.

I also went into your About section - - you need to sell who you are! You have qualifications and experience. Have a slogan like 'fitness tips from a marine' or 'qualified fitness expert' - - I'm not good with sales pitches but I think you get my line of thinking. I want to know straight away that this isn't some amateur blog. Maybe a 'who I am' block on the right-hand side of the site with a photo of yourself?

  • Hello there!
I would like to agree with the previous posts. Your website is neat but it can use a little help with its design. I think it can get more appealing if you will use more graphics. Websites are supposed to be visually appealing so maybe you can work on that part
    Regards
