What are the 5 things that you learnt from Warrior Forum

Dear Warriors!

It's been almost 4 months since I joined this wonderful forum and there is no single day I haven't spent at least an hour going through the threads and learning from others' experiences. I am not making a lot of money online but earning enough to pay house rent and some other utility bills. I have bought some more domains and going to set them live the soonest

I will appreciate your participating in this discussion and coming up with the things that you have learnt from WF.

Thanks!!

    1. A lot of people don't know what they're talking about.

    2. I rarely know what I'm talking about.

    3. Business is business, regardless of where you're building/performing it (online or offline).

    4. "Take Action" is idiotic advice without "while tracking and testing and optimizing everything" attached to the end.

    5. People will try some dumb stuff on here.

I'm sorry but I really don't agree with you on #4

Sure, taking action + testing and optimizing is better. but many people are stuck doing nothing, learning more, reading more, buying more and more products and so on... these people have to snap out of it! they have to stop screwing around and start taking action! test and optimize later, first you gotta start moving your @$$ (if that's your main hurdle).

If a person takes action and doesn't succeed - well that's a different story. sure, you need to test, analyze results and optimize your actions for maximum performance. but not everyone is at that stage. just saying..

        Well, that's completely incorrect:

        1. Newbie X decides to "take action" because they're tired of reading/etc.

        2. Newbie X writes an article per day for their website, performs SEO/Syndication/Whatever. Newbie X tracks none of this, doesn't have analytics on their site, tracks and tests no metrics.

        3. Newbie X keeps this up for a month, either fails miserably, or succeeds in making a sale or two. Newbie has no idea where those sales came from or how they got there, or has no idea why they failed miserably.

By following your advice, Newbie X is f***ed regardless of whether they see early success or failure. If they succeed they have no idea how to properly replicate/scale up, and if they fail they don't know where, how, or why.

Spin it however you want; but it's bad advice and the people that give it "as is" are usually newbies themselves who have no idea what they're talking about.

i don't understand why you went through the trouble of writing all this because i clearly wrote in my post exactly what you're claiming.

you just conveniently decided to scrutinize "Newbie X" AFTER SOMEONE ALREADY SUCCEEDED IN GETTING HIM TO TAKE ACTION.

if a person can't find that motivation in themselves, if they need a little kick - like it or not - getting people to TAKE ACTION is objective number 1.

NOW, AFTER ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN - start testing and optimizing.

Action is pointless if you aren't tracking and testing from the start, as the scenario outlined above shows. If you need a kick in the ass to start the business that you supposedly want so bad, you shouldn't be in business. You should be flipping burgers. Harsh? Definitely, but it's something people need to realize sooner or later anyways. A lot of heartache could be saved by keeping idiotic/bad advice like "take action, any action, the important thing is that you start!" to ourselves.

Well, sign me up for that "idiotic" advice in that case, because I do believe that the first thing you can do is to take action, any action, learning the ropes from first-hand experience (even if clueless and fruitless experience).

There's always time to tweak, optimize, split-test, etc down the road, but what matters at the beginning is to gain momentum, and you only gain momentum when you start moving.

~ Some Warriors are great people and some are idiots

~ Some Warriors have big hearts and some have hearts that are 3 sizes too small

~ Some Warriors have an excellent sense of humor while some wouldn't recognize humor if it laughed in their faces

~ Some Warriors come to share and learn and some just to debate, argue and whine

~ All Warriors have brains, but some don't use them

                * Over all, the Warrior Forum is an awesome community that I'm happy to be a part of! It's just like life in that it is what you make of it.

well that's YOUR opinion. and you literally just ruled out the entire self-help/motivation niche as "idiotic" and "bad". good job "level 13 internet marketer".

by the way, i'm taking this business seriously and i'm using my real name on this forum. you said "people following your advice are f***ed". I don't appreciate people damaging my good name due to THEIR lack of reading comprehension skills.

In your world (wherever the heck that is) "taking action" is publishing an article every day for a month on a website you already have (?!?!?!)

In my world, taking action, and i mean FIRST ACTION, the one i'm trying to motivate people for - is getting a hosting account and building a website in the first place, it's selecting a niche, it's collecting leads, and so on... I do that by teaching dos and don'ts and shortening the learning curve by giving good advice and information. if you don't like that, if you don't agree, that's fine. the world needs this diversity. but you should give a little bit more thought before you start offending your colleagues for everyone else to see, and consider your opinion isn't the only one out there.

There are many ways to the top Mr. Robinson and burning bridges isn't one of them.

LOOOL! I love this! It's right on the money!

Well to be honest it has taught me many things, the biggest one being to stay as far away from the WSO section as possible. I only ever go in there to check out highly recommended traffic/tracking products as I feel it is THIS that will ultimately shape your business!

Also I've learned that it is a good place for IMers to rant - got to love it! WF certainly offers it's fair share of entertainment

    - A lot of people on here have their head up their ass
    - Most people are listening to those people with their head up their ass
    - The best advice given by warriors gets passed over because it means there's more work involved (who knew)
    - There's plenty of real marketers on here - but are vastly outnumbered by wannabe marketers touting nonsense
    - I learned that very few people are worth listening to

Oh, one last thing. I learned that most warriors haven't a clue how to make a common sense decision when it comes to marketing online. They haven't a clue what they actually want and can't see the forest through the trees. But that's not specific to warriors. I see many people on here looking for help, but don't bother taking the advice their given if it doesn't fit into their distorted beliefs.

I came to the WF as a known cynic. I'm still one. I stick to the old adage about believing nothing you read and half of what you see (or something along those lines).

My advice on how to use the WF:

    1. Make your own judgement on whose advice to take notice of
    2. Remember - YOU are responsible for following anyone else's advice/opinion/belief. Take responsibility for your own actions
    3. No-one else can tell you how to run your life, how to run your business, what type of person to be
    4. Know yourself and then make your own judgements on what to do in life - including what kind of business to run and how to run it
    5. Read. There IS lots of good advice on here. You have to learn to tell the good from the bad. By that I mean what advice is appropriate/accessible/acceptable/attainable/implementable by you and what isn't.

What I've learnt from the forum:

    1) I came here knowing little about IM and the online world. I realised there were more ways of earning online that I'd thought of. I started selling my old IT courses online - thanks to this forum I diversified.
    2) Everything is here somewhere - read. What is relevant to you (me) jumps off the page at you
    3) There are some excellent people here and I've made long term relationships with several Warriors which are continued off board -often via Skype
    4) The majority of people are here to post one/two liners to show you how "clever" they are. You learn to ignore them
    5) As with all walks of life there are good and bad people in IM. I admire many people here for their wisdom, knowledge and willingness to help.

It's been 4 months and I have made no friends.....Just got a few warning mails from fellow warriors who advised me to go slow

But then again there are some very good people who spared time and sought solutions to my problems.

      Thanks for responding!!

      1 - 99% of advice sucks.

2 - Most people are happy to give you crap advice so they can spam their sig.

3 - You won't succeed by taking advice from the forum.

4 - Some people are blatant liars.

5 - People come on here to release their rage, rather than to help people.

Lol, do I win the most pessimistic post?

I disagree with this assertion. The second you stop actively performing a service you stop making money. Also, you need to constantly repeat the same actions as a service provider. With a product, you create it once and market from there. The marketing efforts can get a bit repetitive as well; but take less time and are more profitable overall.

This isn't to say services are bad. I make great money offering mine; but product profits is where it's at.

    1. How to market a service
    2. You can build a business in many ways. Just because you did it one way, doesn't mean it's the best and only way.
    3. Some people have no idea what they're talking about but they'll argue with everyone.
    4. Many people do know what they're talking about and you can learn a lot from them.
    5. Don't wait until you know everything to get started.

  • 1) Most "experts" here don't make a dime outside the IM niche.
    2) Even inside the IM niche, they make far less they claim. Talking is cheap, proving it not so.
    3) Education is overrated - Action is everything. A half-assed attempt is better than a perfect analysis.
    4) Stop searching for shortcuts or gimmicks, and think in terms of real business creation.
    5) The *only* proven formula to make money online = drive targeted traffic to a highly converting front-end offer with back-end upsells/cross-sells. That's the *only* formula to succeed in this game. All the rest is noise. Cut the noise, focus on this basic formula.

Warrior Forum has taught me mostly 1 thing. Which was an identity shaping experience for me.

    1) Money is everywhere.

Thats all. Although I've instinctively realized this most my life. I never really focused on it or believed it the way I do today.

That 1 shift in belief has triggered a colossal change in my life. I see tidal waves of money everywhere I go. So now I always have my net prepared. I'm always trying to see opportunity in the future, so I know what decisions I need to make now.

And it has benefited me more than any specific technique I can think of. Thanks to WF.

Terra - you always have a way with words

Edit: I'll expand on my no 4 of what I've learnt from the forum - don't automatically dismiss those 2 liners - especially from members whose first language isn't English. There's gold in them there hills - learn to distinguish it. Those who struggle to write English can't necessarily write an essay to express their knowledge.

I learned a lot in WF. Here are 5:

    1. List building is important.
    2. Article marketing is not what I thought I knew.
    3. Focus on providing value to others.
    4. There are so many interesting and innovative ways to make money online & offline; but stick to the ones that suit you best.
    5. People who said, "I made $$,$$$ in a day" did not tell you what happened and the amount of preparation and effort they put in before that day.

Skimming through some posts, I found that many people are actually angry with the WF. I didn't think so.

Although there is a lot of BS floating around, but that is normal anywhere.

I actually owe a lot of my success to the Warrior Forum.

    1) I learnt how to sell a service, which taught me how to manage a team and outsource.

    2) I made a lot of relationships with people who help me everyday.

    3) It encouraged me to help others whenever I have the knowledge. That's how I feel because I always get help.

    4) I actually found someone to coach me here which I'm really grateful for.

    5) I know where to go when I want to get help and it feels like home.

I don't mean to sound cheesy but I actually do love the WF and owe to it a lot of my success and by success I don't necessarily mean it in terms of money.

The best 2 places for anyone online are the WF and Affilorama, that's my opinion.

    1. Outside WF - no one knows who anyone else is...there are lots of "legends in their own minds" here.
    2. I know WAY more than I thought and people actually listen and like me...who knew?
    3. People are rude until you put them in their place or show that you contribute and know what you are talking about.
    4. Women have a hard time being taken seriously on here...so you should have a thick skin, and not put up with crap.
    5. I have met many people that have given me a wealth of support, knowledge, help, and feel confident that I have helped just as many...so it's totally worth it.

      Precious words!

Yes, I do feel at times that there are not many women here..and all women are not chatter boxes....It's been just 4 months and I have found two great women here...I'm grateful to their support and guidance.

On the other hand, I had to encounter two cyber bullies who wanted to silence my words...I have answered them any the best possible way
