Google Analytics vs. Quantcast

Is anyone else here using both tools to measure unique visitors to their sites?

Lately, I've noticed a huge discrepancy in their reports on unique visitors (analytics shows anywhere from 5x to 8x more visitors per day than Quantcast does). I would be very interested in finding out whether anyone else has seen this.

Thanks in advance...

    • I started using the Quantast script after analytics, and at first, the two were fairly consistent. I have updated my code since then, so there could be some compatibility issues going on, but nothing seems obvious right now.

I've gotten similar discrepancies. In the end, I just trust the numbers on GA as they're consistent with the numbers I get from AWStats.

Maybe Google Analytics is counting bot visits while Quantcast is not. Or maybe Google Analytics is counting the number of visits to the web page while Quantcast counts the number of unique visitors only.

    • I've used GA on previous sites I ran and never had any reason to doubt their reports. (By the way, they have been showing page visits and unique visits separately for as long as I can remember.)

Guess I'll have to break out the AWstats and find out which one is closer.

There will always be discrepancies between various tracking tools - not necessarily because either of them is faulty but because their definitions of various metrics differ.

There are also discrepancies between fi. Google Analytics and Google AdWords data.

I've always used Google Analytics. I doubt they're the best, but they're pretty damn good for a free product.

I build up teams online too, so I usually point them to Analytics just because it is free and so simple to use.

Haven't heard anything about that other service :/

For an Analytics newbie with relatively simple requirements I would actually argue that Google Analytics IS the best product available.

Even if all similar products were free as well.

        Well, I stand gladly corrected!

I love Analytics, but I've never really explored other options. Glad to hear this!
