Setting website pricing

I'm interested in getting opinion on how to price a listing on a directory website.

There's two thoughts that come to mind:

1. It's too expensive
2. It's too cheap

One directory is for Home Improvement - contractors, roofers, painters, siding, etc.

One is for weddings - caterers, halls, bands, bridal shops, florists, dj's, etc

There will be no free listings. All paid, with an upgrade to featured which will include a full page listing that can include images, video and a more detailed info listing. The regular listing will offer basic info..address, phone, web address

Thank you in advance

Some factors to consider will be is your directory well known? and how many visitors it receives per month? You can decide your pricing on those factors.

    Hey-

I've been down this road before...It is all about how much traffic you get. How many eyeballs can you get on someones listing?

The more traffic, the more you can charge.

The categories are great, but you would make more money by offering a free listing, i.e. a single listing say of two lines only, then upgrade to say a bronze, silver, or gold package, and price it accordingly,
The key issues here would how much traffic you get, and how high you are in the search engines,
The reason I suggest the free adverts is because Google love the word free, and if you get this right In your web site Google will rank you higher for free, it works I have been doing this for some time know and have not paid for traffic.
    Hope this helps

This. It pulls more customers to your directory as well.

      • If you can get 1st page rankings for profitable keywords for your Directory partners, it's like taking candy from a baby. Work on your value proposition. Offer value and the money will follow.

Well, on flippa I see pr0 sites selling for $200 - $300 and they have no traffic as in zero. PR2 sites with a little bit of traffic are selling for thousands of dollars now. People must be crazy. Creating page rank two and page rank one is easy. I created a PR2 web site with only nine back links yes nine. Please don't get me started on the Alexa score. Alexa is easy to raise. BTW, people sell back links on FIVERR now. Expect in the future lower prices.
