Looking For A Way To Break Into Youtube? Here's A Tip.

Do the simple thing that most people don't and you can get very fast results on youtube.

I've done a lot of youtube marketing and for a while I produced simple videos for clients.

I have recently began doing some more youtube research and am finding the same thing over and over - poorly optimized video pages.

So if you are looking for a way into youtube try this.

The niche is not really important. What you're looking for is affiliate products that are being promoted. Look for products with a good traffic flow, then examine the video page of the top 3-5 ranking videos.

I find a lot of the time even the top ranking, high traffic videos are very poorly optimized.

I researched a product last night where the top videos have over 250,000 views in the last year. Neither have tags and one doesn't even have a description.

I will have a video at the top of the search results for that product in less than a week.

Taking the time to optimize your page well is worth the effort.

Here's what has worked well for me:

#1 A keyword rich title, ALL IN CAPS. I use a hyphenated title whenever possible as this allows me to use my keyword twice. i.e.- "Warrior Forum - Visit The Warrior Forum"

#2 An original description of 250 words or more. A lot of times I snatch a few paragraphs of the main benefits from the product website and rewrite it. Always put your link first in the description.

#3 Tags. Use all the relevant tags you can come up with. I have videos with as many as 16 tags. Put multi-word tags in quotes "like this."

I am constantly amazed at how poorly some videos are optimized. It's something you can capitalize on if you try.

      I've gone as far as registering the domain videomarketingcommando but just don't feel I'll ever have the time to put the product together so will just share what I know about video marketing here.
  • Exactly how does using caps lock help? I just find that annoying. However, what he's saying about the description is right. This is probably one of the most important parts of a video that people leave out. I personally just purchase a $1/100 word writer somewhere and have a 200-300 word article written out. The tags are also important, but you should be careful with how many you use. If you start spamming out every single tag variation you can think of, this actually can start to hurt your rankings. Only use tags that can be directly related to your video.

    As for what he's saying about optimization, this is important. A well-optimized video will out-rank a video that has more views/likes/comments (within reason of course). It also doesn't hurt to use social bookmarking and wikis either by the way. Back-linking isn't just for websites, it's useful for YouTube videos as well

    • #1 Look at any results page with a title in all caps among the ones that aren't and see which one jumps out at you.

      #2 My tests show that titles in all caps get better CTR on SRPs. Much better.

      #3 Videos with good CTR from results pages get better ranking over time.

      Like everything, you must test what works best for your particular niche or marketing method.

      You should never allow your personal likes or dislikes to affect your marketing. I personally hate pop-up subscription forms, but I use them on all my sites, because they work.
    • If took a quick look at the some of the most successful WSO's you'll notice that the words are all caps, not meaning every letter though just the first in each word. It makes your headline stand out a lot more and drives more clicks to what your promoting.

  • yes nice points...its worth trying few methods and stick to the one actually works for your niche / your expertise level...BUT YouTube is continually changing just like Google search...
  • It wasn't a matter of personal preference, I meant it as overall. I don't think I'm the only one that finds caps-locked titles annoying, many people just simply don't like reading things in caps lock.

    As for doing a YouTube search like you said, I don't see any videos on the first 10 pages for a keyword product I'm promoting at all. The keyword has an global exact monthly search of 5,400 by the way.

    If the all caps things works for you, then to each his own I guess.

    However, aside from that, what he's talking about with optimization is VERY important. One video I put up with less than 1,7000 views is #15 on the first page for it's secondary keyword and like #3 on the second page for it's main keyword. Don't forget to back-link though, SEO is just as important to videos as it is to websites.

    • From what you wrote above, specifically where you say, "I don't see any videos on the first 10 pages" makes me think you are looking in the Google results pages.

      I am very sure what the OP does is to type his keywords in Youtube and he looks at the results in Youtube's first page, not Googles.

  • This is spot on man I have been studying some of the top ranked videos and have noticed this trend myself, poorly optimized videos. However I have come across some videos that have all the exact features you just spoke of and seem highly successful, not to mention their videos are actually good too. Just a link in the description will not cut these days, and a poor headline just wont get you views along with the lack of tags and keywords will get you shown.

    AMAZING REVIEWS - BUY PRODUCT NOW

    Or something like that.

    I was wondering why the part where he said "ALL IN CAPS" was conflicting with his example.

      One of my videos on YouTube has a keyword search phrase of about 1000-1900 and it's been in the #1 spot for a couple of years, both on YouTube and on Google. "how to assemble wedding invitations"

      And one of my videos "posting on craigslist" is #2 on YouTube. I started seeing on my StatCounter that people were starting to search for me by name from that video, "ks musselman craigslist"

      So yes, all of this information is critical to getting views on YouTube and will help get info to the top of Google even if your blog post or article can't get there.

  • Yep I just ranked a video on page 1 of youtube in 2 days. The keyword gets 3,600 searches a month. It was very very easy to rank.

    HOWEVER. There is a HUGE problem about youtube and I'm honestly not sure how many people know this. Because I asked the question on this forum dozens of times, and nobody ever answered it.

    SO LET ME EXPLAIN NOW.

    You **NEED** to know before you try ranking a video on youtube, whether or not you want that video to rank on page 1 of google.

    If you want it to rank on page 1 of google, then you **NEED** to see if there are any other videos ranking on page 1 for that keyword.

    I never knew this, but its the reason my video is stuck on page 3 of google and won't go any higher. For certain keywords, google decides whether or not a video would be the "right solution". So certain keywords, are impossible to rank on page 1.

    This is something I really WISH someone had told me on warrior forum, but noone did. I kept backlinking the video, expecting it to move off page 3, onto page 2, and it never happened.

    One thing I'm assuming, is ANY local keywords are near impossible to rank on page 1.
    If you're targeting something like "mold removal nj", google wants to show all its google place listings first, then a couple pages of websites, NOT your video.

    So before I try to rank any video on page 1, now I search to make sure there are videos already on page 1.

    The OP is right though. You always need to match your keywords, but in the description I stuff a ton more related keywords. I usually go on fiver to get social interaction going (views, comments, subscribers, etc) just so google thinks my video content is awesome. Which it is. But I need to speed up the process anyway I can.

    Anyway, just wanted to add a few notes. Oh, and backlinks help a lot. I'm outranking videos that are 2 years old, and have a bit more views then me, I believe because of backlinks. Or maybe my video is just optimized better. I still have a lot to learn about youtube, but I'm glad I got my first video ranking #1 on youtube. Now its time to get some converting keywords on page 1 of google.

  • Bonus tip: Transcribe your video. Disable the generic automated transcript YouTube provide for your video in the captions section next to annotations. Upload your transcription as a caption file.

    You will be amazed at how easy it is for people to find your video based on some of the words you use in your video. I've even been able to rank for people's name's mentioned in my video just by doing this.

  • YouTube is an awesome traffic source. As someone said before, you really need to jumpstart those views or the video will not go anywhere. It's the truth.

    This is not something revolutionary, it's only driven by commonsense but most seem to forget this and skip over these simple steps that can make the difference between commissions and no-commissions. It's that simple!

    I'm not into video marketing (perhaps I should be), but I know this is something that everyone can do. Beginners should thank you kindly and get to work immediately, because the whole cost of getting started is zero.

  • Poorly optimized videos ARE obviously a huge problem.

    I optimize my videos perfectly, backlink them, promote them, and its always enough to get them ranking on page 1 of youtube... always. In fact, I haven't failed with 1 video up till this point. If I told people how many videos I have in position 1 right now, they'd probably think I was FOS. It has gotten to the point where I'm trying to rerank videos for the same terms I just hit position 1 for. So I can have position 2 and 3 as well. I just reorganize the content, then repeat the process.

    But I'm also not targeting keywords with more than 10,000 searches a month. I could still rank for more competitive keywords, it just takes double the time/effort/money.

    Aside from poorly optimized videos, there is an even larger problem on youtube.

    Its called a "poorly optimized message". If you're going to invest your time to grab position 1 rankings, you better make sure those videos will convert, BEFORE you promote them. If you don't want to go through the work of microtesting for conversions, at least put some time into the message thats in the videos. What I do is give my videos exposure on CL, (with a thumbnail) before I promote them on youtube. If I don't get calls, I delete the video from youtube and try a different message. If I get calls, then I'll immediately start backlinking it on youtube, and buy my fiver gig.

    Like a video I made last week. I kept relistening to the script I wrote, and was asking myself "is this video too 'scary'... does it trigger TOO MUCH fear in people?" I put in on CL for 3 days straight, 3 times a day, not 1 call. Then I rewrote the script so it didn't trigger so much fear. For a lack of better words, I added "indifference" to the video. It was almost "too personal" if that makes sense. Put in on CL, the first day we got 2 calls.

    I immediately took that video and uploaded it to youtube, optimized, backlinked, promoted with fiver, and now I'll be expecting calls from it once it hits position 1 (another 4 days roughly). I don't need to do a lot of testing, I just need to know that people will call from the message thats in the video. Its not about getting calls from everyone, its about just getting calls in the first place. Then you make more videos, test and rank. What I like the most, you can learn a whole hell of a lot about crafting a converting message, just by testing your videos with a bit of free/targeted traffic.

    The more I do this, the more I know how to get my videos right the first time. So it definitely helps. Just this last week alone, I made one of my clients $3,000 in PROFIT from 1 simple youtube video. So anyone who thinks youtube doesn't work.... well, you're just not "working it right". Waste less time with stupid special fx, and more time on the message. Thats my advice.

    • I've read both your posts. Very informative.
      You mention not bothering with keywords where the YT videos are already on page 1 of Google searches and also not promoting keywords with more than 10,000 searches (wasn't sure if you were referring to YT searches, or Google searches).
      I have a keyword with 800,000 global monthly searches, with no YT vids on Google page 1 (there are vids on Google page 2 however).
      Would it be worth my time promoting for this keyword, or is it far too competitive???
  • Very nice tips...I have used some myself. I use the hyphen to be able to put my KW twice in the title. I SEO the description with KW density and add the link at first and bottom. The only thing I have never done is the CAPS. I will certainly give it a try to see how it helps VSEO.
  • i posted 25 videos this week but what I am noticing that without getting links to the videos it is tough to get it ranked in youtube. Secondly the number of visitors that come to my squeeze page from my videos are next to zero even though I have put up annotations and have tried to drag people to my site from my video. I have a couple of my videos ranked at the top of my keywords and have got hundreds of views but not satisfied with the results. I think I have to think something new to get youtube work for me...

    • 25 videos in 1 week? No wonder why you're failing. I NEVER do more than 1 video every 2-3 days (usually work on them a couple hours a day then move onto other stuff). At this point, for every 100 views, I get about 2-3 calls DIRECTLY from my videos. The quality of the leads is VERY impressive.

      If you want my opinion, you're not focusing on quality content. There is no way in hell I could release 25 high quality videos in 1 week, and get traffic from any of them. Its somewhat obvious to me, that you need to narrow your focus.

      Plus, getting backlinks is easy if you just have the right resources.
      Here is my model:

      Make a HIGH QUALITY VIDEO. I sell myself in the video. Since I know how to sell, in a very subtle way, it adds a lot of urgency to the videos. It generally takes me 1 hour, just to script and produce 1 minute of my videos.

      After that, I backlink using 2 online free backlinking tools.
      Then I blast with scrapebox.
      Then order a fiver gig.

      I never have problems. Well I do. My only problem now is getting a better conversion than 2-3%.

    Instead of putting the link first in the description I put the keyword as the very first words and then the link directly below as I think that helps ranking for that keyword.

    So my first words of the description will be:

    "[Keyword]:
    [url] "

    And the link is still just about above the fold.
  • Great advice. It's kind of funny how often people over look on page seo and do everything they can to build links. I have no doubt that it is the same way with Youtube videos.

    Like I just mentioned in some other YouTube thread here, YouTube is the third most popular website in the world. It's a great place to market products, services, whatever.
  • Yeah makes it that much easier to rank against videos that are no optimized. Putting the URL of the video in the description is also helpful to get back links when a site might link to you.

  • It's nice to see a post that does not mention buying views, likes and comments.
    I've had videos on YouTube since it began and each has around 30,000 views & bring in adsense month after month. You do not need to risk losing your account by going against their terms. Just provide value and optimise the way the OP suggests...then let them rank over time. It may take a year, but it's well worth it in the long run.
