Affiliates, are you ticked off at the product owners? Why?

Hi,

This morning I read a thread from a product owner worried about his affiliate's link showing up on google instread of his own site. To me it sounded like the product owner didn't want to pay the commission and wanted to rank higher than his affiliate. Now that is an example of what would tick me off if I was that affiliate.

What other things do product owners do that tick you off as an affiliate?

Maybe this will lead to some valuable advice to product owners so that they don't turn off affiliates who are working hard for them.

    I think the person is wondering why his own site wouldn't rank higher than an affiliate's. That's more of an SEO issue than an affiliate marketing one.

    It's nothing for an affiliate to get upset about... I do have to wonder why, based on what I've seen in several forums, some affiliates seem so hostile toward product owners, as if all merchants are out to screw the affiliates.

    Hint: if the visitor went directly to the merchant site, nobody has done anything to earn a commission, so there's nothing for an affiliate to complain about.

      I disagree. That's commission that the affiliate COULD have gotten, if the owner's site didn't steal it from them.

      As an affiliate, sure I can entice the person with bonuses etc and make them buy though MY link. I'd do that if there were other affilaites playing in the same ad space as I was. But when the owner jumps in and tries to out do his own affiliates, then I still consider that lost commission and tells me that the owner didn't want to pay me my dues.

      Just my opinion.

    One of the things that ticks me off as an affiliate is when the product owner has an opt in on the sales page but does not promote their own product that you're trying to sell for them.

    A lot of affiliates complain about lead capture forms and sales pages but I really don't have a problem with it if the merchant is promoting the product on the sales page through a series of follow-ups.

    In fact this method can increase your sales as an affiliate. But it's when they promote something totally irrelevant through follow-ups from a lead capture on the very sales page that you are promoting, and that ticks me off.

    One other thing that ticks me off is merchants who offer really low commission rates. I just don't see the point of offering a low commission rate. There is absolutely no incentive whatsoever for an affiliate to promote their products or services.

      Very good point Frank. Yes I agreed on that too. I'd love for the owner to promote any product that will make me commission rather then some product that won't.
