Wordpress Theme for Wordpress Beginner

Any theme. If you are a beginner you won't be "using" the theme - ie editing it or changing it. You will be adding content to the site - which is independent of the theme.

Just go to "Add themes", type in a few basic requirements and see what comes up. It's as simple as clicking "install" and then "activate".

Changing themes doesn't change the content - with the caveat that sidebars may appear in one theme and not in another, so widgets may come and go.

a good free theme is simplefolio, google it and download the zip package, I can't link it to you because I haven't got enough posts. Simplefolio is pretty neat and simple, I feel like themes for a business have to be that way.

I'd just use the default theme until I had some content up and an idea of what else might benefit the site.

Make a list of things as you go along.

What colors do you want?
What kind of fonts do you like?
Where do you want widgets and sidebars to appear?
Etc.

You can always have a banner created to personalize the brand a bit better. You can get them for $20 or less.

Using the default theme will get you started quickly on the most important part of the site (the content) and give you time to look around and decide what additional functionality you need.

IMO, a very easy to use wordpress theme (that looks pretty good by the way) is the Magazine Basic 3 column theme. I use this theme on a lot of my sites and it doesn't take me long at all to get them all setup and running.

You will get hundreds of different answers, because there are so many themes on the market. When I started I used the Flexibility theme, but most importantly is that you get experience with Wordpress. You will be able to pick a theme that you like later once you you are proficient with Wordpress.

Since you are unfamiliar with themes, I'd do like Jill says. Just use one of the ugly default themes and concentrate on content until you identify the goals and needs of the blog. Some themes have better layout for developing a list, and some are geared towards review sites and some are built to mimic a sales letter. I'd avoid those specialty type themes and when you're ready just pick out a theme you like.

Woo Themes has a large selection of themes and some of them are free. I use Woo Themes more than any other.

If you are really serious about blogging and are looking for newbie friendly themes I strongly suggest these 2:

1) DIYthemes — Run a Killer Website with the Thesis WordPress Theme
2) Prose Theme by StudioPress

It's extremely easy to customize, edit etc. You can change just about anything without touching a single line of code. Although they cost quite a bit, but I'm sure it will definitely be a good return on your investment. Both newbies and pros are using them.

These will be your 1 stop solution for wordpress theme

I would suggest you go with the default wordpress theme. It's done by the wp staff, and the functions are implemented strictly according to wp guidelines.

Another plus for the default Twenty Eleven and Twenty Ten themes - the Wordpress support forums are loaded with people intimately familiar with these themes. If you ask questions, you get excellent answers.
