Finding the thing that works for YOU
Having been trained as a reporter, I always loved to write and speak. I tried many different things along the way including building affiliate sites (had over 200 at one time), Adsense sites, making products, membership sites, etc. Every time I tried something, even if it worked alright, I didn't feel like it was the right fit for me.... until Kindle publishing came along.
I now have more than 20 books on Kindle - some fiction and some non-fiction -using various pen names. Most of my income is now derived from Kindle. In August, I started writing fiction and it has been the best fit for me. I now have a fan base of readers and had over 25,000 people download (free and paid together) one of my books in August alone.
I write this not because I think everyone should publish on Kindle. In fact, some people should not. If you can't write or outsource to a quality writer, you shouldn't publish on Kindle, in fact. I am writing this to say to newbies or those who are struggling that you need to find what works for YOU.
That being said, make sure that what works for you also MAKES MONEY. Doing your passion is great, but it won't pay the bills if people are not willing to pay you money to do it!
I still do lots of ghostwriting because I like that stability, but I continue to write and publish at least one book each month. Every month, my income grows and snowballs because of the work I did before.
Just wanted to give some encouragement to those who are in that dark place of wondering if they will ever make it online. Now, I am having a blast doing something that I love, and that shows through in the writing I do. It's exciting to have a business that gets you up in the morning, and I wish the same for all of you!
