How much do you charge for website development for clients?

I understand this various on the complexity of the webpage itself, but I would like to know generally if people charge usually under 1k or over 1k for website development and what services you offer as part of the package. I want to look into what I can offer service was to my own customers but also be reasonable with the competitive prices provided in the market place.

Thanks!

This would probably depend on the size of the website, and type of website that the client is asking to be developed. If it's a small site with very few dynamic pages then probably somewhere around $300 - $400 would be reasonable. But if it's a full blown custom built ecommerce site, with a ton of moving parts, then your probably talking anywhere from 2-6 thousand and up.

if you want to get a good idea of what people will pay look at Odesk or freelancer. But if you position yourself as an expert you could probably charge a lot more than the people there do. Because some of the developers on those sites really get scraped.

I charge anywhere between $150 and $5000. It all depends on the features and the platform on which you intend to build the website.

Back in the good old days I charged $30 per hour, but now I charge $15/hr or less even. It is very hard to compete with people charging 50 cents per hour and I know one guy who has a PHD and he charges $3/hr for programming. Globalization has brought to all of us pure misery.

I agree with everyone else's comments - it depends on what sort of site it is and the complexity of the site and what the client's needs are. So anywhere from $100 (a simple one or two page blog site) to whatever for a complex company site.

I typically go for $1,500 for a plain 5 page website, and that includes getting them on page 1 Google for one keyword. Anything more than that and the price starts jumping.

Any sites I sell are basic info pages for small businesses. Very rarely have anything to do with larger projects if I can avoid it as I find quantity over price works for me, but thats my personal opinion.

$400-600 depending on what they actually need made and what they can supply (graphics etc) is the going rate, plus a residual hosting and maintenance fee

For basic websites with wordpress I charge nothing, but for more extensive projects I'll charge anywhere from $150 - $200 for designs, logo, and content.

Whatever you're thinking of charging -1. Rinse and repeat until you hit zero. That's what is going to happen if you're thinking of competing on price. There are plenty in the third world ready to undercut you: $10 a day is a king's salary to some of them. Charge what you feel you are worth, and find the clients willing to pay the rate. It really is that simple.

It depends upon the project requirements, but most of the time we based on the completion date of the project.

Nolan, all of us cannot give you a specific amount to what you should be charging your clients. The price depends on many factors. Two of which are the complexities of the website (features, functionalities, coverage) and the platform to where it should be built.

If you are somewhat new to this, you may want to charge an hourly-rate until you get a feel of how much you should be charging a client (fixed rate this time) just in case someone wants you to build a similar website.
