need some help about email marketing

my partner bought a website from flippa, and he got a big email list with it.
the problem is that the owner of the list didn`t used it, just send about 25-30 in 2010-2011, and a few in 2012.
the list had about 200,000 people 2 years ago. now it has only 75,000 valid subscribers.

could i create a relationship with these subscribers? how is the best way to use this email list? it`s in the internet marketing niche.

if anyone has good ideas, please help me. i could do you a favor too.

thanks

Ive seen people argue both ways on this. If I were you I would slowly send out very useful information to them so that you can build a relationship. Once they get used to trusting you and enjoying your information you can send them offers every so often.

Others might say to sprinkle in offers with the content from the beginning, those that are going to buy will do it anyways.

You may do mail outs. Send them proposals perhaps.

The best way to use email list is obviously to promote your products/services and make money. This is pure gold. Most people are struggling to build and grow their list bigger while you have gotten the opportunity to access those 75000 right now.

In your case, it is best to start the relationship with giving away tons of free contents (for example, free reports, ebooks or software). You also have to consider to who and what they originally subscribe to. This can be automated by using auto responder such as aweber, where you can pre-set a series of messages to be delivered at certain time at certain intervals.

You want to give "VALUABLE" and "FREE" content in IM niche, because your subscribers will love it and at the same time you slowly gain their trust. Remember that they have not heard anything from the original owner/they might even have forgotten him and suddenly you come and start promoting. Again, this is done by auto responder and maybe once every couple of messages, you can promote your products/services

    Hope you find this helpful.

The quickest way to FAIL online: have no proven list building strategy, don't know how to grow their list fast, waste time NOT doing money-producing activities

Start out by giving value first. Actionable stuff that will help them get results right away. The quicker they can see results the quicker you build the trust necessary to earn their business.

You could also start by implementing a basic reengagement strategy so you could scrub the list and get optimal results.

PM me if you need a more detailed explanation

The first thing I'd do is email them if they were mine...

I'd tell them sorry they haven't heard from you in a while and tell them the truth it's because you just took over the site and you look forward to serving them...(and pray you don't get many spam complaints) but that'll help start re-engaging them.

    A solid list is gold!

I would put into place a 3 step plan

1 - create some great content to give them that is relavent to the reason they signup in the first place. This might be a collection of blog posts (easily written) or an ebook. One point here is to make sure that if they visit the site, they do not find it vacant and not updated since the last owner had it. Populate the blog with a couple weeks of good stuff first.
2 - Find some other site owners that want exposure to give you some more awesome material to give away. THEY WILL DO THIS! Everyone wants eyeballs, so if you offer exposure via the channel, folks will come to the table with great stuff to give away. The caveat here is to make sure you screen everything..you dont want to send out anything that is spammy or bullsh!t.
3 - Ask questions and build repport. Ask the list how you can improve and what you can offer in the future? People, real people, love to know that you care. When they tell you they want a post or an ebook or a product about xyz, deliver in spades...

After you've built rapport, you'll be able to do continue to interact in any way you choose.

Feel free to reach out if I can offer any additional advice and good luck!

You should introduce yourself to the list, and hold off with promoting until you start getting some interaction from your list. Run polls, hold contents, offer a blog, and give them the opportunity to email you personally. Once you feel that you've bonded with your new list... then start promoting some products of yourself. But dont rush it.

There are a few Warriors, like myself, offering free mentoring programs in your niche.

You could use these free programs which you sign up for as an affiliate, and will make affiliate sales from this list in addition to promoting other offers.

In these mentoring programs, like mine, the program creators do all the hard selling for you. It's free to you, free for them! I know that one program allows you to make money, grow your list, and even get automatic email JVs, and ad swaps through one of the "upsells".

This basic method, along with your own concerted emailing effort, will produce the most result from your cold list. It is certainly better than just giving away ebooks and the such.

Start building a rapport with your subscribers, send information about who you are & what you do 1st. Provide them with useful free content, products and even software..build trust and then throw in some offers in the mix....once you feel you have established some trust with them..

Wow DonPaul. Is that common? Or did your partner pay a lot for that site? Just wondering because that sounds like it could have been a good deal.

I had never considered buying a site with a list before, I looked into site-flipping etc. but never really got into it. So obviously in this area I'm pretty clueless - I'll go and take a look around flippa now.

Even once you have scrubbed the list... built a relationship etc. you should still have a solid number of subscribers left. At least more than enough for turning some decent cash.

i scrubbed the list 1 or 2 weeks ago. it has 75,000 active subscribers.
he did pay a lot for a site that isn`t generating any revenue, but not like a fortune )
he give the list as a bonus because he didn`t used it, and didn`t had a relationship with his subscribers. so he didn`t knew how much the list worth.
i don`t know him, and didn`t talk to him, but as far as i saw in the website and in the email list he was doing a fortune a couple of years ago. maybe that`s why he didn`t even used the list.

now he is in the mobile marketing.
he sold his old sites maybe just to get rid off, i don`t know...

You want them to see your newsletters as valuable, so that when you will be recommending products for them, they will be more than happy to pay.

Find some products (whether affilate or your own product) that related to this niche to sell e.g. you have list about hypnotic weight loss niche so try to find hypnotic weight loss ebook to sell.

i would suggest start with something small ... don't send immediately offers or anything like that ... make the message personal for example, use the first name . there are systems and companies that allow you to use their templates or create your own ... i am working with inwise and i`m really happy with that .. it lets me import my email list and i can use the first name tag so the first name appears in the message ... this way, the message becomes more personal ...

I also suggest you to not send them immediatly offers by trying to sell something. It is better to send them valuable tips and information firstly and once a good relationship is established between you and them you can promote your products.
