Best Way To Use KDP Select To Get Kindle Sales

I have all my Kindle books enrolled in KDP Select, and I usually run 2 free promos within the 90 day enrollment period for each book. Here's what I have noticed....I always get more downloads on my first promo run than my second. And consequently, I get more sales directly after my first promo run than my second.

Has anyone experienced this? Or anything different for that matter? If you use KDP Select, what is your most effective strategy for using it to get more sales?

I'm still experimenting with it but I do see the same thing. More sales from the first promo than the second or third. Seems with each promo you get diminishing returns.

I did try running the full 5 days and that actually did OK. Just don't like having to wait out the 3 months to do another one.

I've not been there long but what I tend to do is release a short book (3000-4000K).

I then add my authors profile and a 500 word sample of several different books.

This book is written just for promotional purposes and I normally make it a 5 day free promotion. It's one of the reasons I found quick success!

Isn't it funny that with the advent of Kindle we are calling 3000-4000 short essays "books."

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

But you make a good point. A great strategy to use is to use the KDP promotion as a way to drive sales to your other books. I'd say that should be the main strategy, actually.

The algorithm constantly changes and it's not as sure a bet to run a KDP promo and then become a best seller in your category after your promo ends like it used to be.

Hey GoodFe, could you expand a bit more on your strategy?

Another thing to consider is the visibility of the Free Books. At one time they were lined up with the Paid versions. This made it easy for consumers to see, resulting in more KDP Select downloads. But they are harder to find now.
