Copywriters write sales and ad copy. Their pieces are supposed to directly convince a prospect to opt in, call, or buy.

Ghostwriters are not really a type of writer. It is just a term that designates someone who writes for others and doesn't attribute their name to completed pieces. If I wrote Snooki's next book as a ghostwriter. She would sell it as "Smushing by Snooki", not "Smushing by Joseph Robinson".

Now, as far as IM writers go...

Fakes: People who have no business writing. There are a ton of them at the bottom of the price ladder. They're the ones that promise things like "cheap, fast turnaround, copyscape approved! We write anything!"

SEO Writers: These guys write content that is specifically meant to please whatever Google's latest algorithm wants. A lot of fakes will pretend to be this type of writer.

Regular Freelancers: The mid to high end of the market, these writers craft pieces for human readers. These are the type that you want to ally with.

Authors: Random term I'm designating to those that write for themselves and only for themselves. They're making bank (sometimes).

To add to that because I was one:

Proposal Writer: Writes proposals, of course

      And then there's:

Technical Writers: Writes technical manuals, etc.
Script Writers: Writes scripts for movies of course
Video Script Writers: Scripts for videos
      Poetry
      Prose
      Novels
      Music
      Lyrical (lyrics to music)
      Plays
      Myths and legends
      Newspapers/Magazines/Journalists
      Screenplays
      Monologues

I'm sure there's more kinds of writers, but there's lots of different kinds of writing.

EDIT: Yes ... just saw DeePowers list, so yes ... there's many different types of writers.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

The 'o' was italicized, being an ever so subtle, tongue-in-cheek aside. Perhaps you missed that one madam

          Yup. I surely missed it.

I have to disagree with you.

There are good writers, great writers, mediocre writers, writers who are only great in their own minds, poor writers, misguided writers, wanna be writers, used to be writers and those who consider themselves writers but actually haven't ever written anything.

Why split hairs. The relevant answer is still the same as before . . .

    One type?

The one type is those who record written words in some language.

This one type may vary in skill level, the style the use, and the reasons they have for doing what they do.

Yeah...no. The context of the question clearly shows that the OP understands what the word means and what it implies (which is what you are addressing). What they're asking is how that term breaks down when it specifically relates to business.

(Hey, you did come into a thread that was bound to be full of writers :p)
