Where does my free offer belong on WF? WSO?

Hey Warriors, I'm new to WF and have a question....

We published a Kindle course this year (currently being sold on Udemy for $97) and would like to offer it free to Warriors, as a list builder for us. Question is, because it's a free offer, where does it belong? Does it qualify as a WSO? Just want to make sure I'm not going to break any forum rules, etc..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yup, that's fine as a WSO as long as the deal isn't available outside the forum.

As a side note, you'll do best to uncheck the "Show signature" box on posts like this to avoid it looking self promotional.

You have to pay to advertise it here unless you just put it in your signature. You can run a WSO and give it away for free to build your list, however, you will need to join the War Room (one time $37 fee) and then create the listing, $40 fee when it is approved. There will be another $40 fee should you decide to bump it back to first page after it goes on page 3.

PS: There's also this section, http://www.warriorforum.com/make-money-online/, but I imagine it's a bunch of freebie seekers downloading constantly there and probably not the ideal target for building a list of buyers.

If you're going to give it away for "free" then why offer it as a WSO? I mean, why pay the fee to post a free WSO just to build your list? It's silly.

Why not just pay the lesser price of getting yourself a War Room membership and post your "free" course there? There's a few advantages to that:

First, you get access to the War Room where you'll benefit from all the great stuff there -- the stuff there might earn you some serious cash if you apply and use what you find there.

Second, by offering your course -- free -- in the War Room, you're catering to other Warriors that have shown commitment by paying the fee to be War Room members; in other words, since you're looking to build a list, why not make sure they're "buyers" or at least interested in what you might have to offer?

Third, you'll probably get a lot more exposure in the War Room than your own WSO thread. Chances are your WSO thread (that you pay for) will get knocked off the first page within hours (limiting your exposure) thus lowering your chances of getting people on your list. And then you'd have to pay again to get your thread bumped. In the War Room, your free course will stay on page one for a while.

Give the War Room a try!

The OP would get a great deal more exposure running a "free" WSO.

Chances are, his post would not be accepted in the War Room with an opt-in, particularly if you had to opt in to get the product.

A simple look at the people browsing the WSO forum at any one time vs the people who are War Room members and browsing the War Room tells the story.

I see your point, but no matter how I look at it, I disagree. Here's why:

The OP is looking to build a list. In the WSO section, where every kook and weirdo in the world can click the "buy" button or "download now button" just to get a freebie (or a cheap offering) chances are the OP won't be getting QUALITY leads.

He'll have dead wood on his list. Dead wood that have zero desire to purchase anything. What good are names on your list if their all wood?

At least in the War Room, the people who end up on his list have been vetted a bit more. I'd rather have 100 quality list members than 1,000 zombies.

And I don't think there's a correlation between "oh there's soooo many more people browsing the WSO section than the War Room section" and how many more (or less) leads the OP will get.

Just because there's a million people browsing the WSO section, it doesn't at all mean (or result in) the OP getting even a fraction of that action. Whereas in the War Room people are actively looking for this stuff and they've already demonstrated that they're willing to pay for something (by virtue of their War Room membership).

And sure, the opt-in is a problem for the War Room but having spend a fair share of time in the War Room I can assure you that there are people offering things for free there where you do have to give up an email address to get it. Against the rules sure. But against or not, it's happening and I see offerings there for months at at time that continue to have the opt-in.

Also for those that don't put an opt-in actually put a hybrid type of opt-in in the download. Download whatever and then there's a link to click from there to get the "real" product.

I don't know, but I still say if the OP wants to build a quality list, over time, his best bet is the War Room and not the WSO section where it will be expensive, have a short half-life, and then be buried under a myriad of tomorrow's products never to be seen or found again.

I don't think you can use the War Room for list building:

An easy way to avoid this, is to not mention that it's "FREE" in the WSO subject. So... it's a good chance that anybody who clicks on it, is a buyer. Not a freebie seeker. Although, a freebie seeker or two is bound to sneak in. It's inevitable if you're offering a free WSO.

Steve - great point and great solution with not posting the WSO as a freebie in the subject. Thanks for your help!

Exactly this. The WSO forum gets a TON more targeted traffic than the War Room does. The traffic to the War Room is a trickle compared to what the WSO forum gets. That's not an opinion either, it based on the traffic stats.

Having worked behind-the-scenes on many free WSO launches, I can tell you that running a free WSO to build your list is very smart marketing if your offer resonates with the people in there. Sure there are a lot of lurkers in there, but there are a TON of buyers too, many of them are habitual repeat buyers who cannot stop themselves (half-kidding there).

If I were you I would run a free WSO, as a test, with that main product and then list a watered-down version of it in the War Room (remember, it still has to be useful, if it looks like spam or crap the mods won't approve it). And then I would bump it as long as it was giving me leads.

And yes, there are no forced opt-ins allowed in the War Room. However, you can have an optional opt-in as long as you provide the download link.

Why not post in both War room and WSO forum?

$77 to become a War room member and post a WSO is a small investment to build a list.

But I agree that the WSO thread will have a short life if posted there.. but at the same time,
the OP can be sure of getting optins from it.

Otherwise, sell it as WSO for $10 and that will attract buyers and potentially affiliates to
    promote it also.

Building your list through a free WSO might be one of the fastest way to add subscribers to your list, but for sure not the best way to add high quality leads to your list.

The highest quality leads are generated through product sales, not freebies. Why not market a low priced product to generate a massive list?

If that would be the case. You can advertise it is Warrior Special Offer but you need to pay Warrior Forum for advertising your sales thread.

On the side note, you can advertise your offer in your signature. Just make sure that your offer is outside the forum.

Wow, thanks for all your replies and advice. It sounds like it's well worth it to spend the $77 for WSO & War Room. I already have a very healthy subscriber list but I'm looking to add to it for a Kindle series, as we've had some success with Kindle publishing and would love to share the knowledge with a targeted list. Again, thanks for all the help! Gotta love the WF Community!
