Neglected my site for months..

So I'll be honest. I got into the online marketing/monetizing thing awhile ago. I grew my site up a bit (it's a comedy/photo blog) and it gets about 300-350 unique hits a day. I was proud of how it grew, but I was disappointed by the amount of clicks I was getting. Probably 1 or 2 a week, if that.

Well I just checked into Chitika today out of curiosity, and was a bit surprised.

Date Impressions Clicks CTR CPM Revenue

Oct 4, 2012 3,445 0 0.00% $0.00 $0.00
Total 26,553 19 0.07% $0.01 $0.40

I started using Chitika in the beginning of July, and so far my total revenue is $0.92. So Almost a buck in 6 months.. Which doesn't sound like a lot.. but it's making me think that maybe the site is worth continuing.

The domain/hosting drops in February, and it'll be about $80 to renew it.. I'm starting to think that it might be worth it. If I hadn't neglected it for so long I wonder if my numbers would be higher..

I'd look into different monetization methods that pay better, and find a way to get people to opt-in to a mailing list. You should find it extremely easy to increase your income from just 15 cents a month. To put it into perspective... if you only made 1 Clickbank sale in that 6 months, you would make many times more. Not that I'm stuck on CB, it's just a suggestion.

When I got rid of my Adsense on one of my authority sites a few years ago, as part of test, I replaced them all with affiliate & CPA offers. Within 30 days I have more than quadrupled my net income, and I wasn't even building a list with site (capturing e-mail addresses, Facebook likes, etc.)

I would definitely start testing some things if you got that kind of traffic.

Agreed. Even Amazon can be a good option. All you need to do is direct people from your site to relevant amazon products and Amazon will do the selling for you as they are a name everyone knows and trusts and they have a great site.

Their commission rates for non electronics start at 4% then after 7sales in a month everything (inc the fisrt 7 sales) jumps to 6% and then after 20 or so jumps to 6.5%. So say you manage to refer a dvd sale for $30 you would earn $1.20 which when it doesn't sound like much is more than you made in 6 months and is a soft sale.

I would continue, you should be able to keep growing it. I would keep adsense on the site, but I would also consider adding affiliate products as well.

So I got this Chitika site to see how much it costs to advertise and get this...

    • What are the requirements to advertise?

Currently, to be an advertiser on the Chitika ad network, you must be willing to commit to a $50,000 monthly advertising spend. This includes Chitika mobile ads.
Uhhh, ok...I find the payout they give you laughable when you consider they require a $50,000 monthly spend to advertise....
