And something I've noticed is that none of these are 'set-and-forget' - the market, the niche, the tech all change, and you have to adjust to it.
Save for some basic stuff, every method that I knew about say 3 years ago is way different today.
There was a time, for example, when your articles on EZA was a great source for backlinks. Not so much now.
The basics are still the same - your content quality matters as much as the quantity if not more.
But the rest of it has been turned upside down.
And I think people who didn't adapt to that changed are the ones who have failed even after taking action.
