Has your marketing stayed the same?

Over the years, I've made money from affiliate sites, niche products, software products, article marketing, adsense sites etc.

And something I've noticed is that none of these are 'set-and-forget' - the market, the niche, the tech all change, and you have to adjust to it.

Save for some basic stuff, every method that I knew about say 3 years ago is way different today.

There was a time, for example, when your articles on EZA was a great source for backlinks. Not so much now.

The basics are still the same - your content quality matters as much as the quantity if not more.

But the rest of it has been turned upside down.

And I think people who didn't adapt to that changed are the ones who have failed even after taking action.

How has your marketing (and maybe even your strategy) changed over the years?

I have been using the same methods for over 5 years. And while I am not making as much from my websites any more, they are still making good money for me.

I think as long as you provide great value and useful content people will keep coming back to you. The methods of marketing will change but the process will stay the same.

Was it? I thought Ezine was always a PR0 non contextual backlink.

I was in affiliate marketing ages ago and very little has changed, so it's good to stick to the basics and like others have said on the thread provide good content and quality.

I make sure I have more than one traffic source and revenue stream at ALL times.
I don't care how much money I'm making from one source, I MUST diversify.

That's the biggest difference I've made. If you don't quickly adapt to change in this business, you're done for.

Yes my marketing has changed. And for two reasons.

    1) For technical reasons like you mentioned above due to things like different strategies that used to work, but no longer work or are less effective. So my business itself and how I reach out has changed.

    and

    2) The needs and desires of my market have changed. By listening to them, and hearing things like they want more audio, or more video, because they like it better.

Right now I am noticing a shift in my audience and a lot of them have been asking me about setting up a type of forum or membership site.

So I have been researching and learning about those things, so I can continue to provide value, and even increase the value that I give to my customers.

My marketing method has not changed in over 15 years, beyond being scaled up and increasingly delegated over the years. Technology not withstanding, the basics are just as effective now as they were centuries ago.
