Auto blogging and RSS

Newbie here,

I've been out the WordPress/autoblogging scene for a while now, but I need to get back in for a project I am doing. I am not trying to build a blogging empire, but just one site that will provide RSS content on a niche area.

Now, I have spent some hours on this website reading similar posts, and I have set up a WP blog, and installed some auto blogging plugins.

The problem which I have already come to is this issue of summary vs full text availability. The main sources I am using allow you to republish their titles and summary, but what I want is the full article showing up on my WP blog. I don't mind entering the source link at the end, I just need the full text to make it worthwhile.

I suppose some of you know a way around this or a solution?

WPRobot is perfect for the things you want, but I don't understand why someone wants an autoblog... Google doesn't rates it well as in the past years.

I concur. Don't waste your time with autoblogging Jimmy, it's a dead duck. Put your time into something sustainable.

I agree with Ali, autoblogging is almost pointless now days compared to what it used to be. To really earn well from it would require an "autoblogging empire" as you mentioned.

If you did want to go ahead with it. WP Robot should do the trick.

You're all right, but the posts I get with the autoblogg isn't going to be getting posts willy-nilly. It's just going to be news related stuff that is time crucial lile PR announcements etc.

I am going to be supplementing it with my own original posts too. But because this is a fresh blog, I want some content to get started. The plan was to bring in content from other places (news) enter in my own content at the same time, then slowly stop all the auto posts.

The problem is that most sources only provide a summary, or the one which I find provide the full thing might also in the future trim down to a summary only without me knowing.

Here is a 100% free full-article extractor which converts shortened RSS feeds into the full ones: WM Utils | Full-Text RSS Feed Generator

As about autoblogging in general, I would suggest you to forget about old text-based model and concentrate on media rich content (videos, images, top notch eye-catching design etc). This is the only autoblogging model what that works great in post-Panda era.

For 'autblogging' good looking mashups like CyberSEO suggests are being used these days and people are having luck. Blog networks are employing these tactics too to make medium quality niche sites for their networks that auto-power themselves. But 'autoblogging' doesn't encampass the whole spectrum of blog automation, it's a buzz cousin of a large family of applications.

I use automation with my own properties all the time and use full content extraction tools (like the one mentioned above, and the one built into my toolset, which both I think are developed by the people over at FiveFilters.org) to help import content from product blogs into my industry news site. Sometimes the wordpress RSS setting doesn't respect when you set it to display full content so having the extraction utility can come in handy.

If you are looking for a blog automation tool that should help you execute automation strategy for the remainder of Wordpress's lifespan BlogSenseWP is an excellent candidate.

Never be short on the imagination!

This is why I prefer to not use this word. The modern professional content aggregation plugins for WordPress allow to create almost any sort of auto-generated sites which can't be called just autoblogs, because in fact they don't look like blogs and they have a really different functionality.

For example, these WP plugins allow to create self-populating tube sites, pinterest-style sites, various online shops, cool-looking online magazines and many more. These sites still use WP and they populates themselves on autopilot but they are not blogs anymore.

I believe we need a new word instead of "autoblog" to describe such a new generation of self-populating sites. Any suggestions?

Are these types of sites less likely to be de-indexed from Google? Or will Google see beyond this is still identify that the content isn't original?

Depends on their quality. The main slogan of Google now sounds like: "make sites for real people". The one who gets it right, knows how to make good self-populating sites which will be ok with Google.

In the post-Panda era Google does not care too much about your content (how big your articles are, how many keywords there etc). The most important factor is your visitors' behavior. If they (the visitors) love your site (search engines analyze your bounce rate, on site time, depth of browsing, % of bookmarkers, etc), then Google will automatically consider it "as made for real people" and course it won't remove it from the SERP's.

Thus the most important thing is to make the surfers stay at your site longer and come back again and again.

Just a year ago it was a common practice to order a bunch of "unique" but boring and useless articles from 3rd-world copywriters and post them to a poor-looking blog with some boring or even default design. Now this won't fly because such sort of site will have an off-scale bounce rate, and site will be automatically penalized by Google as a low quality one.

On the other hand, a well-designed self-populating site which syndicates quality and properly sorted content such as images (there are tons of legal sources), videos (even from youtube and other resources that allow embedding), online games etc will catch the surfers for a long time. And nobody will care if your content is "unique" or not. If the visitors love your site then it "made for the real people". Yes, it is that simple!

P.S. When you are browsing Google Image Search for some "keyword" you are also looking at non-unique content, because Google doesn't generate it by itself, but it shows you something you wanted to see. The same practice works just fine with modern autoblogging (hate that word, but don't know how to re-phrase it according to the new times).

Thank you for this, I didn't know something like this existed! Trying it out now.

So how does this create full feeds from shortened ones, I always thought that when the RSS feed has been restricted to just a summary, it has be set like that and any extra info will not be published and thus not obtainable via RSS. How can this generate the full thing? Can the link change and disable the full feeds?

It takes the links to original HTML pages that are located on some website, parses them and tries to extract the actual article content from the page layout. If succeed, the full articles are returned as a new RSS feed which can be syndicated to your blog within a hour (a lifetime of that new RSS feed).

What do you mean by syndicated to your blog within an hour? Does it mean that after the hour the links won't work?

Exactly, like it's written on that site. Why would you need this static RSS feed if you already syndicated all full-text the posts from it?

Well, if understand this correctly, it means that you can only syndicate the feeds from the website once, or as many times within that hour. If you pull the feeds the next day with that same link, it will not syndicate anything?

I wanted a link that will allow me to pull the feeds indefinitely, as this is news I am pulling I can't just get the feeds one day and that's it..

There are many of paid services that do this. Also there are premium WordPress plugins that provide such a feature to their users (http://www.google.com/search?q="full...rdPress+plugin).

Well, I'm going to be building exactly the same sort of website. I didn't know this beforehand, so I'd be interesting to see how Google indexes my site. But at the moment, since its my first time after a long break from the WP scene I'm finding it difficult to find good sources which I can leave to generate content. I also prefer to use sources which are more like news and PR annoucements so they are already found all over the web even before I add them to my site. Individual's personal blogs can cause issues down the line - I wouldn't like someone stealing my original content. I'll be integrating all this with videos and audio too, all self-hosted.

CyberSEO, how is your software different from what's available, iw, WP -o-matic, and WP Robot3?

Mine targets a different group of internet marketers (webmasters). While the other premium plugins are indented for newbies ("click these two buttons and get the content from that predefined resource"), my plugin indented for professionals only. There is no magic button like "click here to get all youtube videos", but there are also no restrictions at all. If you know what you are doing, you can do just everything. In other words, it allows to parse any existing XML feeds (not just these simple RSS and Atom ones as other plugins do), and you will be the only one to decide how exactly the parsed information will be presented on your site. This is the main difference between premium and professional scripts.

P.S. If you need a stable freeware alternative to WP-o-matic which won't hurt your WP database, make sure to check WordPress › CyberSyn « WordPress Plugins

Blog Automation! Or content automation. Everything buzz related will be niched and open to intense scrutiny and will possibly only have a lifespan that lasts as long as the tactics associated with it.

Plus the keyword competition is intense!

I've wanted to move perception of BlogSenseWP away from autoblogging and towards blog and site automation solutions. It's geek language but that's what our tools are when they offer variability for almost limitless imaginations of application.

Also targeting the autoblogging sector your liable to reel in customers that are not as accomplished who are looking for money making solutions over automation execution solutions, the ladder being the type of customer fun to work with.

: / but beyond Blog and Site Automation and Wordpress Automation Tools there's not much else to covet. To me those are the head of the nails of our true market. Autoblogging and Autoblog are still fashionable so it's hard to ignore them. They are the terms that most people invoke to talk about what's available on the market and how people are using tools like ours to succeed.

...I know I have google alerts out on them. And it leads me into a battle where I am constantly trying to clean the stains out of the clothes so to say and build a better public opinion about automation tools and 'autoblogging'. The anti-autoblogging sentiment presents itself like clockwork. It's truly a tarnished industry due to all the content theft assiciated with it's beginnings. But from what I can see, content theft is way down in 2012 and people have begun to excerpt and credit sources when they use RSS feeds, and for shortcode based mashups the sources tend to be content providers that keep their content in the public domain eg: youtube.

Yeah, autoblogging is on the fence with me. I usually just combine feeds for my own sake of having to look at one place to update my blogs.

I've been spending the last few days testing WP Robot, WP o matic, syndicate (WPFeed?) and autoblogged.

I can say that the only efficient posters are WP o matic, maybe a little bit autoblogged. I'm dissappointed with WP Robot - it has so many bells and whistles on it that it can't seem to do the basic functions. I just don't understand this template system, it's getting in the way and causing errors.
