I need some kind of wordpress redirect script/plugin that can do this sneaky action...

I need a wordpress friendly script/plugin that does the following:

I would like to add a popup lightbox opt-in form on my site (like popup domination or similar)

But if the visitor closes the box, the page would redirect to another page on my site. The reason I want to do this, is because the site is an adsense site, and the page ranks for a low-paying keyword. I want to refresh the page to one that has a much higher paying keyword, so if they click an ad, I'll get more revenue. Anyone know of a solution?

I think with the way Google's evolving the tactic you have in mind might result in you losing your ranking before long. I mean purely on an algorithmic basis.

My traffic comes from Bing/Yahoo. I'm not concerned about Google.

You might be concerned If Google bans that Adsense account for doing sneaky redirects & pop-ups.

Might want to read the TOS you already agreed to.

        Site behavior

Sites showing Google ads should be easy for users to navigate. Sites may not change user preferences, redirect users to unwanted websites, initiate downloads, include malware or contain pop-ups or pop-unders that interfere with site navigation.
        Good luck.

          Good luck.
I'm aware of the TOS, I don't think this would violate Adsense TOS. I'm not leaving the site, and the popup does not interfere with site navigation.

Yes, the popup does interfere with site navigation, your forcing unwanted navigation with the redirect.

You can think whatever you want, doesn't mean Google will agree & when they don't agree, well, it's too late (you get one chance).

IMO, looks like your setting yourself up for a fail (Adsense ban).

Your redirecting traffic to a page they didn't voluntarily navigate & your doing that with an unwanted pop-up. If the pop-up was wanted the redirect would never happen in the first place.

IMO, your over complicating your goal, move traffic to a higher converting Adsense page.

You would be better off removing Adsense from the low performing page, then make all links on the low performing page point to higher performing pages without any sneaky, complicated, TOS violating, redirects.

I get the feeling you won't take this advice because you seem to be hooked on the pop-up/redirect. Good luck.

Ah, in that case I could be completely wrong, lol, but then again Bing does tend to follow Google's lead.

Just use a redirect javascript bro... or use redirect 301 plugin that would work as well

Add a javascript onClose condition to the script/plugin that launches the lightbox that resets the location() variable to the page you want. A little time checking out the various javascript tutorial sites will give you the exact code.

I was also contemplating making an offer in the popup that would convert well, then making the thank you page the one I want them to visit. If they closed the popup, they would still be on the same page, if they opted in, then the page would reload to the new page.. No sneaky redirects or TOS violations with this method, right?

Ronmojohny: Why would you want to implement any kind of sneaky tactic on your website. It looks to me like you are more interested in your potential 'revenue' than the best interests of your customers.

Also, I see that your sig file states:

Please do not use affiliate links in signatures.
I don't know how that got there, but if it was put in by the WF administrators, you are lucky that the WF is more forgiving than Amazon would be if they detected 'sneaky' tactics on your part.

If you are interested in earning money online, please don't become the type of Internet Marketer that gives this industry a bad name.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but I don't like what I see in your attempts to bend the rules in order to line your pockets.

Follow Yukon's advice... or you might (probably will) have your account suspended in the future.

A join date of May 2007 is too long ago to still be asking these kind of questions. As others have said, you'll get banned from AdSense. Google probably won't notice the sneaky redirect, but they will detect a less than desirable quality of traffic since your surfers didn't intend to be on the page you send them to. That will be what gets you.

Well, I've had that adsense account since 2006, so I don't want to lose it! I'll figure out some other way to get them to the page..

Just make sure the clicks are qualified. If you herd traffic like cattle, at best you'll get the low paying AdWords accounts. At worst, a ban.

They are qualified; for instance one of my sites ranks well for "driving directions florida" and adsense only pays 5 cents a click. But if I built a page on the site about "car insurance quotes", and directed them there, they are still qualified visitors (because I know they drive a car) I can get upwards of $4 a click. (or 80x the revenue)

I think you may want to think a bit more on what a "qualified visitor" is. Just because I drive a car does not mean I'm looking for insurance quotes. In your example, I'm looking for driving directions to someplace in Florida. If I click to a page offering those directions and find myself shanghaied to a quote form, I'm going to be gone and I'm never coming back.

Even if I might be interested in that insurance quote, most people only think about it a couple of times a year - at renewals. And even then, if I get rerouted to a page of insurance ads, I'm not going to trust that page enough to click anything but the back button.

            That's my "consumer voice" talking...

    Yo man.

If this is going to be a profitable ticket item for you, you could outsource it for $50 probably.

I would suggest going that route; I can't think of any existing plugins that can accomplish this..
