AWeber New Message Editor - No Good for Affiliates?!

I've been basically happy using AWeber for my email, but now that I am starting a new project, I am seriously considering switching to GetResponse. The main reason is the new message editor - I don't see how it can be used by affiliate marketers!

The new message editor does not allow you to insert HTML code into the message (unless you write the entire message in raw HTML - clearly an insane idea). How can I include merchant/product banners in my emails? Yes, if the provided code is only a target URL and a URL to the banner, you can use an image block. However, very often you also need to include a "tracking pixel" - 1x1 pixel image for the affiliate network to track. I don't see how to add this with AWeber's new message editor.

Am I missing something?

There's an option to use the old message editor right under the Create A New Broadcast button.

I've recently been transferring to GetResponse. Aweber has been getting worse by the month the past year... at least for IMers.

I know about the old editor, but it has always been buggy & annoying...

How else do you feel AWeber has been getting worse for IMers?

When I originally made my choice a few years ago, I was going to go with GetResponse - until I noticed that alot of merchants I wanted to deal with required my using their suppression lists when sending out emails. At that time, GetResponse did not support suppression lists (I think they do now).

I just got off the phone with GetResponse... It seems that their new editor ALSO doesn't support pasting in HTML <sigh>. In fact, I was even more surprised when they told me that my other pet peeve with AWeber - the fact that fields in a web form must be arranged vertically and not horizontally - is true for them as well...

I was going to pitch in and mention that GR's "new" email editor is almost identical to Aweber's "new" editor...

Both of which remind me of Constant Contact's email editor...

And many more autoresponder's are going (or have already went) to this "new" type of email editor...

I think it's silly how many folks think that switching to GR from Aweber (or vice versa) will solve their problems...

Anyone that has done extensive testing on these two will tell you it's basically a toss up... Just go with the one that has the features that best fit your business...

As far as deliverability is concerned - AW and GR are also pretty much even - in fact they even share some of the same servers... Or they "rent" them from the same place rather... This is why it's not uncommon for Aweber and GR to be "down" at the same time (this happened a few months ago).

Now - with that out of the way...

I do think it is important to "spread your eggs around" and once you reach a decent amount (I normally suggest 10,000 subs) you should start looking for "backup" autoresponders... That way if Aweber is having issues one day (or longer) you can still send mail at least to a portion of your list...

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Coby

Outside of the end result of both editors being an email to send to your suscribers; I'm not seeing how this statement is quantified at all. Fell free to prove me wrong though .

I'm searching out the specific thread/story; but the consensus seems to be that Aweber is shifting their focus away from affiliate marketers. So switching may actually be a good idea. Unless you're one of the spammers that are pissing off Aweber in the first place (and I'm not saying you specifically), we don't want you ruining GetResponse for the rest of us.

      Hi Jackie,

You can still use the legacy editor and you can definitely paste your HTML code in. We are working on this functionality in the new editor. I've also shared your comments with our development director and CEO.

Feel free to PM me anytime if I can be of help.

As for anyone who is wondering about our new email creator, the best way to see what it can do is to try it by taking advantage of the free 30 day trial of GetResponse. IMHO it's a night and day difference to other ESPs editors, but my opinion or anyone else's for that matter doesn't hold a candle to your own experience.

      Regards,
      jim

I shorely do like Get Response! I ain't shore what the editor has to do with anythin, nor the writer, publisher nor anyone else.

I've used GR for a long time and I shore can see a difference between GR and AW. Used em both and quit AW.

What was the name of that there editor, anyhew?

Just use the old editor. That's what I do. Or, for most of my lists I use my own autoresponder so I don't have to deal with issues caused by someone else imposing their latest and greatest "upgrade."

          .

Yeah what a horrible new editor in AW...I totally avoid it. All of the messages are now centered, when people are used to reading stuff that is left-aligned?

It's a pain and I hope they get rid of it altogether.

I recently made the move from Aweber (and Constant Contact) to GetResponse, I'm a happy (new) customer having sent out several emails testing their deliverability.

Someone brought up Aweber versus GetResponse editors.. personally, I find GetResponses easier to work with.

Constant Contact's was easy to use (was with them for almost 2 years), but not many scripts integrate with them to autosubscribe people at the time of purchase, etc... and there's a learning curve if you're switching over from Aweber.

At this point, you might as well give GR a try and mess around using their free trial.... a lot more people are making the switch to GR. They seem to understand and they're actively reaching out to this market.

It would be a great move. Because AWeber is not working greatly right now.

I agree ... please bring back or at least reintegrate the html editor. I really don't like the new aw editor; please at least give us a default choice to restore the classic editor as the one we normally get, without having to hunt for the little text link every time.

Maybe you could use Pretty Link.

I actually prefer using a proper http link so I guess it doesn't apply to me.

    HUH?

    That's not true.

I'm not sure about the form builder (it's kinda junk IMHO) but you can use the old code and format the forms any way you want. The old code is easier to deal with too.

There is no comparison between the two new editors in my opinion. GR is much more user friendly. Don't have to take my word for it. Open a free 30 day trial and play around with the new editor .. you will discover a new tool of the trade you will not want to do without again.

As far as pasting HTML banner code, use the old editor but from my own test (may not be the same for you) Setting banners in your email is about 79% less effective than using that same space to presale the item. For some reason banners seem to go in the spam folder more often too.
