How do you rank your Amazon sites?

Hi guys,

The reason I'm asking this is because I've heard that Google is proclaiming "war" against EMDs. I don't have any iron proof for this, so don't freak out.

The way I build my Amazon sites is by selecting an EMD for a decent term (not something "spammy"). I opt for a decent search count per month (2200+) with a low to medium competition level, and some healthy long tail keywords.

I don't usually go for review sites, I mostly deal with promotion, sales, offers and articles about the products. The way I monetize is by strategically placing a photo and a "See more products" button. So keyword density, multimedia and onpage optimization is not an issue.

My real problem is that if Google gets its nose into EMDs, and makes 'em vanish my whole SEO strategy gets ruined. EMD selection was a crucial part of my whole ranking strategy, this made it easy to rank my sites middle 1st page, top 2nd in a short period of time.

I know there are many other strategies that can be used, but those take longer, some cost a bunch. And my question, is it really worth the hassle for an Amazon commission?

Brainstorm with me guys, I'm really curious if I should continue building these sites or get onto something else for my passive income streams...

Kind regards,
Dan

    Dan...

Stay away from EMDs. They were never a good idea to start with. Do yourself a huge favor. Start with a brandable domain and target easy-to-rank products. Focus on content (not backlinking) and you will quickly begin ranking for all of those low competition products simply by creating content for them.

    It's really that easy...

Thanks for the insight mate. I'll keep this in mind, as I always wanted to turn every niche site I have into an authority site.

I might want to pick your brain on some things about this when you have some time.

      Cheers!

That's not true - but if you were thinking of using them just to try and get an advantage then yes you'll probably get slapped for it.

They were always going to just be a FAD that got slapped - I'm just surprised Google took so long about it.

I did use some to get an advantage. But don't get me wrong, I haven't used something like 'buyiphone5rightnowfortendollarsdotcom'. Just some decent terms like 'rubyringprices' or 'mattressoffers' (not actually these).

But I was thinking about sticking to some authority sites (2-3) from now on, in some wide niches in which I can place a bundle of quality content.

      Thanks for the tip.
      Cheers!
