What email do you use

What email do you use for communication? Do you just use the free ones eg, yahoo, gmail or hotmail? I am with yahoo at the moment and I get too much spam and my account has been hacked into. Starting the IM journey did you change to a paid email service, yes or no. Which would you reccommend? Thanks in advance

Nope, I've always been on Gmail. One tip is to have two accounts. One is your real one for communication. The other is your form entering email. Meaning, you put the second email in all of the signup forms. Most of the eventual spam will then go into that email while your main one is intact.

Depends... Who are you communicating with?

If you're dealing with the public then you need an email address that's associated with your domain name. Nothing turns potential buyers off faster than an unprofessional gmail or yahoo address.

Just use the email service that comes with your hosting. It will work just fine for 99% of all the emailing anyone would ever do (except bulk mail, of course).

In every niche in which I do business, I use either mypenname (at) mydomain.com or mypenname (at) mydomain.info as my email address, which I think looks professional.

For friends and family, I use one at live.com.

I use gmail. I've had yahoo and I agree - way too much spam. In addition to that, the emails I really want end up in the spam or not delivered. I've never had any problems with gmail.

After using a number of different email providers over the years, I currently use Gmail as I have found it to be terrific in limiting the amount of spam that I get. I would definitely stay away from Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.. As previously mentioned, if your concerned with your email looking 'professional', then you should probably go for email accounts set up through your hosting provider.

Best of luck in all that you do!

I use the domain e-mail for whatever site that I'm using. I use Gmail for everything else but like a couple of people already said, it just looks professional to talk to fans or clients of your site with an e-mail address that ISN'T from the site. Plus, it's easier to handle and deal with in ways too so that's a plus.

Gmail is better for me although I like Yahoo mail, too. I actually have several mail accounts. There's a need for me to be careful not to give away any of my personal email addresses to any site prompting for my email address particularly when you want to download an ebook, subscribe to something, etc.

I use single optin for my landing pages, and I address my visitors using my domain emails (myname@mysite.com)
My autoresponder sends me an alert email to my personal email -- that I have in a domain of my particular company (not related with my IM domains) --, each time the visitors opts-in.
I never use gmail, yahoo nor hotmail.

    • If you're serious about IM, you're going to need a biz hosting account with unlimited domains allowed. Good news is you can get that cheaply through Hostgator, seriously, it's under 10 bucks per month.

And you can use that account to launch all of your IM product's domains and other IM-related RDT&E.

If you launch an IM product or products hopefully, you should very much have an address like info@yourdomain.com, or support@yourdomain.com to have some credibility. Remember, TRUST is a huge factor with IM.

I have been using gmail for close to 2 years now and am happy thus far. However, I only use gmail to communicate with friends and family. I don't use them for business purposes.

Imagine having a company asking you to send an email to: NiceToMeetYou@gmail.com for support. It's doesn't look professional at all.

I have a gmail account used only for business stuff ie affiliate sign ups and things like that. Then I set up forwarders from all my domains to go to various folders at this gmail account. So I have inbox folders for mydomain.com, myotherdomain.com, etc. all within this one business gmail account. If someone emails me from one of my domains, it'll show up in the domain subfolder of my gmail account. If I need to respond, I can still send an email from my gmail account but it will keep the address of the domain, so it looks like it came from the domain rather than gmail. And I always use support@mydomain or admin@mydomain as my email addresses to keep it more business-like.

Having an email with gmail.com on the end isn't especially professional, especially if you've already set up your own website domain and want your customers to see you as something like mycompanyname.com or such. All business email should come from the business's domain name, not from gmail.com. However, in Gmail you can send and receive emails from your business email address.

If you do this, you can also set it up to respond, using your domain email as the 'from' email address instead of Gmail. But make sure you set it up right. There will be one choice to either have your outgoing email sent through Google or your domain's SMTP servers. Make sure you select the SMTP server. There is apparently an issue where emails sent to Outlook will still reference your Gmail address so your recipient will get an email saying it was sent by "support@mydomain on behalf of joesmith@gmail". The SMTP thing, I believe, eliminates that. I don't know if this is still an issue but I'm not chancing it.

We don't use any free email service. If you are hosting your domain to HostGator (we're not an affiliate, just citing it as an example), you can create your own email addresses. That's why ours is sales[at]contentwriting360[dot]com. It's more professional and a good way to brand your products or services.

I use gmail for my marketing programs. You can set up 2 or more different accounts which I have done. I also use inbox.com. I don't use my primary Cox email because they treat marketing emails as spam and sometimes don't let the emails through.
