PPC Tracking Question

Hi,

I have recently completed a few courses on doing PPC affiliate stuff. I'll tell you where it all falls apart for me:

The tracking situation is awful.

The tools to do keyword research and ad copy research are great. The problem is that when it comes to doing keyword tracking on someone's page, getting the tracking pixel set up on another person's page is awful. It can take weeks for someone to get back to you and even the people at the big sites are unresponsive.

It can take weeks to get tracking set up properly best case I figure even if it gets set up at all.

Is there anyway to track as an affiliate without getting a tracking pixel on the merchant's destination page?

    Hello,

You should try all ways in order to get a tracking pixel to others website. Don't just stop in one way. You must persevere your goal in order to hit what you are looking for.

I dont promote anything with PPC until the merchant places the tracking code on their thankyou page. In otherwords, I send them a email with the tracking code and ask if they can please place it on thier website. If they dont reply or tell me they cant do this, I simply dont promote that merchant.

Get them to agree first, then create your PPC campaign. Merchants who cant do this for you are useless.

you can also track by using unique tid's for each keyword, or at least per adgroup (if they're tightly themed), and then track ti all using the reporting mechanism of whichever aff program is being used (most provide some sort of tracking id for reporting). If you're using your own landing page you'll need to dynamicly build your affiliate link to incorporate the tid passed from the ppc ad.
It can be a bit of a pain to set up, but it works.

Luckily there is conversion tracking software available that uses the built in tracking capabilities of most affiliate networks to track your conversions for you.

You can use Tracking202 (service) or Prosper202 (self-hosted) for free to get your feet wet. They are pretty easy to use and will help you get your head around conversion tracking with subids.

They have many cool features like cloaking your data from the affiliate networks, even if you are direct linking you can cloak your data and track you're conversions.

Paid conversion tracking software is available too...

If you search the forum you'll find a bunch of threads on conversion tracking software. You may have to go back a few months to find the good stuff.

If you have any questions just ask.

    Hope this helps...
