Must I own a website before making money online?

It has always been said that without having a website one can never make money online. To what extent is this statement? Please what is your candid opinion?

It's always good to have your own established website, but it's not completely necessary. There are so many ways to make money without a website. It's up to you on what approach you want to take.

You can still make money online but not as much when you have a website. If you don't have a website, and people started to like your products or services, they may have a hard time finding your contact details. In some cases, perhaps, they had to ask other people (your current or previous customers) before they found you.

While if you have your own website, aside from ranking it well in your niche, they can easily find you. They will only have to bookmark your site and every time they need to buy your product or service, they'll only have to click your link from their bookmarked sites.

Where is this idea coming from? From my experience working with Content Writing 360° as a help desk associate. We started offering our services without a website. When we launched our website, our sales triples.

It's not necessary to own a website to make money online. You can be an affiliate and promote someone else's website and make commission. There are plenty of affiliate programs for you to choose from but I think the most popular ones are Clickbank and Amazon.

This! There are different ways to earn money online and some of which do not require a website. You can use twitter, facebook, forums etc. to promote your affiliate links or other people's products.

It's not necessary if your looking for short-term cash injection. However, if your contemplating on long term business strategy then it would be best to invest in some online real estate.

I made money on ebay with no website.

It all depends on what your business model is.

While it is definitely not necessary, it is recommended.

You should be capturing the emails of visitors. If you don't have a website you can still do this but it is harder.

Any traffic you generate online should first go to something you own and you should attempt to squeeze their email from them. Then send them to affiliate offers, etc.

I never heard that "you must have a website",just that you must have a list. The website is normally just there to build that list.

The very nature of making money online, lends itself to doing so via a website. However, you may also piggyback by using someone else's (Ebay, Amazon etc.), beyond that there is lead generation and many other business plans that don't require you having a site. The key here is "online", so I have the opinion that you will find it a lot easier to make money "online" via your own site, which by the way can be obtained for little to nothing in the way of cost, so there is almost no good reason to skip having a site.

There are a million ways to earn online. You could sell stuff on eBay or Amazon, you could market your skills (freelancing), or you could do other IM related activities. I read a whole bunch of suggestion before my comment so, yeah. Go with those. Like everybody said, it would be great if you have one but not having one won't keep you from earning money online.

A website is necessary, a very simple site should be one squeeze page.

You can use a free blog service to build your website first.

I was making over $100k a year as a copywriter before I got a website...even when I did, the website wasn't for my copywriting services. So yes, it's possible. Just depends on your niche.

Even though a website is very easy as well as cheap to set up. You do not need a website to make money online. There are millions of ways to make money online with other websites that are already highly ranked. Here are just a few ways to make money online without a website.

    1. Create a unique video review of a product and posit it to platforms such as YouTube.com and Vimeo.com with an affiliate link in the description.
    2. Write an article with an affiliate link in the bio and post the article to several article directories.
    3. Create a twitter account, choose a specific niche and grow a targeted following. Tweet valuable information to your following to build your authority then begin to tweet great affiliate offers from marketplaces such as ClickBank.com.
    4. Create an account on Fiverr.com and create a valuable gig that people cannot find anywhere else.

Question: "MUST I own a website before making money online?"

    Answer: No.

I can't think of anything about the basic concept of making money online that REQUIRES your own site.

It DOES require traffic...conversions...etc - but you do not HAVE to have your own site to get those things.

Now, if you want to turn "making money online" into a business, then yes, it's a really great idea to own your own sites.

But you can totally get started making money for free with free-to-use sites and other techniques mentioned already.

    Hope that helps =)
