Give Away Events: What's it all about?

Hi Warriors,

So i heard a good idea for building an email list is with "give away" events. Problem is i have no ideas what they are or how they work?!
Could someone explain to me the process of a "give away" event and, if they are still around, where i could find them.

    It's where you get people to sign up to your list (via your site) by having a giveaway. For instance, if you have a blog about gardening (with the idea ultimately to sell people things), you could have a free ebook about building your own greenhouse, gardening for free, etc. People like free stuff and I am sure if you spend time here, you will see a lot of the warriors offering free ____ in exchange for your email address.

    The above suggestion on ebooks made by godinu is a great one.
    A gardening site attracts gardening buffs, so the ebook is a turn on.
    In this particular example, you might consider offering one of two options :

    - an ebook for beginners (example gardening in the veranda) --- for the new hobbist.
    - an ebook about a specific plant --- for a more specific niche within the niche.

    Giving this option makes your site seem like the place they will learn and hear about what they like.

    Just an idea.
    And add a subscribe option.

    mmm... thanks for your replies but I still don't think I understand what a give away event is. Sure, I have a free ebook on my site to build my list. But i have heard of events where you can sign up and give stuff away in return for an email. Does this not happen any more? Alex Jeffreys was talking about them.

    Well, godinu and crissie are both wrong. They are referring to a giveaway not a giveaway EVENT.

    A giveaway EVENT is when you a group of people, contributors, get together and giveaway products during a specific time. The events are normally themed and have upgrades for contributors and members. You build your list by people joining a list to get your free download.
