Issue with grammar mistakes

In my opinion, the most important thing you can do for SEO is make your website perfect for readers. That really means grammatical errors have got to go, as they can make it very difficult to read. If it's even a bit of a struggle to read the reader will more than likely be hitting the back button, which isn't good news.

To me grammar mistakes are bad news, particularly when you are trying to sell something. With SEO if you are appealing to the search engines then it is not so bad, but if you are trying to target real people with your SEO then the grammar can be a problem.

The issue is that grammar errors, like spelling mistakes can act as pattern interrupts. This means that you're getting someone into the buying mood and then they hit one of these errors and it can jar them out of the buying mood.

Also if they see bad grammar then they will associate that with poor quality, which in turn they will associate that with whatever you are promoting.

I always try to make the grammar / spelling as good as I can. If you are writing in a language that isn't your native language, get someone to just check it over for you - either a native speaking friend or hire someone on Fiverr to do it for you.

The people with the credit cards generally do care about grammar and having it right means you appeal much more to them and they are more likely to continue to your site and buy.

CodeBotics and Jason Johns are right..I think it's a pretty basic requirement for any content to be spell checked and grammar checked. It's not so much the SEO, it's about making an impression to your readers. You wouldn't want to come off as unprofessional because of a few spelling and grammar errors...

Yes it makes a huge difference.. You need to look professional to succeed. (My opinion)
Just copy and paste your content into microsoft word and run spell check, that might help you out a bit

I do, actually, but whether it has a negative effect on SEO doesn't really matter anyway.

SEO is just a way of trying to get one specific type of traffic (search-engine traffic) to your site. When any sort of traffic gets to your site, if there are grammatical mistakes on it, that's going to lose you readers, return visitors, opt-ins, conversions and sales anyway, however you look at it.

If your content isn't grammatically correct, SEO is the least of the your problems!

I personally feel that it is important to have good grammar on your website or your squeeze page. On contrary to a physical product in the retail world, online products are sold in a "distant" manner, and good grammar is the few attribute(s) that distinguish the good products from the bad. IMO, Good grammar is akin to water for a fish- It simply can't live without it.

As a former magazine editor grammar mistakes bug me. You left a word out in your post and I spotted it right away! It doesn't make me think any less of you, but it does make me wish everyone would proof read before posting. I think it's important to get the grammar right, especially if you are trying to sell something! Yes, we all make typos and mistakes from time to time but we need to try hard to correct them.

You learn by reading and practising your own writing and then having someone with experience checking your material.

Well what's the use of having a website when the readers can't understand a thing because of grammatical errors. Its a big issue so grammatical errors have got to go.

If you have mistakes in your writing some people do not care about it and then other get really off put by it, what you need to do is just read through your article of salespage and check it for spelling mistakes or hire someone with good grammar knowledge to check it for you

A few mistakes in spelling or grammar would not hurt your performance in your SEO campaign. Search engine like Google use spider bots crawling to your site. These bots are more specialized in detecting spammy content and link building rather than grammar checking.

But if your grammar is too way off, I think Google will evaluate it as a bad score in terms of your on-page SEO.

I don't think it effects the SEO significantly, but it may be annoying for your readers. It just tells that you don't care and it may effect you badly. Doesn't take much time. Just use the built in spelling and grammar function.

As usual, Alexa has the right idea. Who cares about your SEO if your readers (= potential customers) are going to be turned off by poor spelling/grammar? What's the point of driving thousands of visitors to your site if none of them (or significantly fewer of them) are going to buy?

Always proofread your content or have someone else proofread it for you. There's always something more hiding from your eyes besides grammar mistakes. For example, spelling, punctuation and usage mistakes

It's amazing that you would ask such a question. It's 2012, and there are still people in the warrior forum who believe they have to write content for Search Engines... I'm sorry, but you need to get into the Copywriting section quick.

Stop trying to make the Search Engines happy, and start focusing on your readers. It doesn't matter what the search engines want. If you don't make your readers happy, you are doomed to fail.

Besides, the more visitors you have that enjoy your website, the more that are going to share it with their social networks. This in turn shows Search Engines that your site is liked by people, which helps you rank higher.

Make sure you have places on your site for people to comment and add to a discussion. This shows that you are building a community, which Search Engines love.

It's all about your readers. Focus on them, and they'll take care of the rest.

Hey even though I do agree you need to do your best to have perfect grammar and no errors I believe it has no negative effect on SEO since we are all human, we make mistakes and it's natural to have a few errors here and there but you must do your best as a professional to fix them!

I have seen little evidence that grammar has a direct effect on rankings. That being said, it probably will increase in importance over time.

Grammar matters, however I think it is important to have a distinction between blatant errors that turn off readers and technical errors.

And let's not forget that on any given day you can go to any of the news sites: CNN, MSNBC, NYT, WSJ, FoxNews, etc... and you can find horrible grammar and spelling. Even the headlines on page one are often incorrect.

I've written tons, including quite a few books (technical books, not in the IM space in any way), and back when I was working with publishers I was always grateful for the editors to catch my many mistakes. I write in a conversational style, and I know that I misuse the comma. I use the comma for pacing, including when it is incorrect but I want the reader to pause. I use sentence fragments. I use incorrect sentence structure.

The primary issue is your content and how it is read by your readers. Does what you produce work for your readers? Do they connect with you because of your writing, or are they turned off because of your writing? And, have any of you seen how middle school and high school kids communicate today? I'm not even sure we can call their language English anymore! ;-)

I have this problem too, because english is my 3 rd language, I manage to understand everything in English but its very difficult to create new article as my own without any mistakes.
