We all know finding a half-decent domain name can be a royal PITA. I used to go crazy trying to track down even crappy domains and used to get majorly pissed at all the domain squatters out there ... but now, I find strong, relevant domains in no time flat.

How did I go from mad to glad?

Well, things got easier for me in that department when I started using these three tools in unison:

InstandDomainSearch.com: Instant Domain Name Search Tool

Step 1: This is my Step 1 for quick and easy real time search for domains. Won't go into detail on this because it's a simple and straight forward tool that needs little explination (just go try it). I use Instant Domain Search as an "off the cuff" search tool... mostly to satisfy any preliminary curiosity I might have about domains in any given niche. It displays the search results fast and in real time and is often my starting point before I go to...

MakeWords.com: Domain Name Generator and Search - MakeWords.com

Step 2: This one is crazy powerful. There are a lot of ways you can search using MakeWords but the real power of it is somewhat obscure. Go to Themes > Custom . Down the bottom of a page you will see a big text box. There you can add your own words to append to your domain name search. For example, I have a list of words I like to use such as "market, magazine, store" etc. (I have about 200 of these "money words" in spreadsheet that I copy and paste from). Add your primary word in the prefix or suffix boxes (like "WieghtLoss" or "Poker" etc.), paste in your custom "money" words down the bottom and hit search. This is a very fast way to cover a lot of ground very quickly. In this step I'm either trying to find that killer name I want or creating a shortlist of possible candidates. Once I've got a shortlist of domains I think could be winners I head on over to...

BustAName.com: Domain Search - BustAName

Step 3: Kind of like MakeWords, but different. This is my last step because BustAName will pair and group whatever keywords you give it and display whatever domains are available. It's my last step because it lets me take the words which make up my shortlist of domains from Step 2 and use BustAName to potentially discover better combinations that I may have not thought of. With BustAName you can have it add add common prefixes, dashes, numbers etc. as well. Helpful during my last step when I want to fish for (or more accurately: drill down) on tighter options for the domains (a) I may have not have thought of (b) that may be better than the ones on my shortlist and (c) that ultimately, I might want as my final name(s)!

Conclusion: This three step process has saved me buckets of time and landed me some killer domain names.

Hope this helps some of you find better domains, faster. And if you have some domain name hunting tips you use to find great domains, lets hear 'em!

Peace.

I just released my own Domain Name Finder Tool .

See if it is something you can add to your resources.

    It does several things...
The most interesting thing it does is check Google and Amazon Suggest for matching results and sees if the natural search as a domain is available.

You can also do a quick check like instantdDomainSearch and it also allows you to get a bit creative with creating domains in categories from a dictionary.

It is something I have used for many years. I just recently added the Google and Amazon suggest feature and re-released the site.

Let me know if you have any feedback.
    thanks
