When you don't have it, you're on to something

I recently read the following post from a "senior" warrior here -

"If you don't have money to spend, get out of the IM business"

I disagree profoundly with this line of thinking.

The guys who live off buying solo ads, traffic, authority links etc, are caught up in a tedious vicious cycle competing against each other. They are not forced to be inventive, so they are probably not adding anything original to the world either. And thus, their aspirations can only be limited.

But if you don't have money, you have no boundaries. The challenge of having to dig deep into your imagination is an asset. Get inventive. Think up different ways to build up from rock-bottom.

Here's one little tip I've used :

When using social networks to promote your business, you will start with a page with no fans. So do a search for other pages in the same niche. Choose the ones who have only a few fans too. 'Like' them. Share them on your page. They will notice you and are more than likely to return the favour. 10 or so of those, and you're on your way. The big fish won't even notice you or care if they do! So don't waste your time on them.

I've just started a new little project. No money will be spent on it. It's a challenge that I hope will benefit from my own creativity.

Any other suggestions?

My mentor has taught me that:

It takes money to make money online.

He was totally right but I found out that if you stay consistent with your free online promotions like writing articles, posting YouTube videos, making forum posts, and posting on high traffic blogs, then you can be successful.

It takes a lot longer to see results but in the long term it does work.

I still to this day use paid ads and it works better and faster then my free promotions that I have done in the past year.

Yes, because the best way to handle one idiotic extreme is to immediately jump to the other idiotic extreme.

Oh sure you can start with no money, but to insinuate that you'll be just as likely to succeed because you "put in time" could easily be argued as being just as retarded.

This section of the forum alone is an excellent case study in how having 0 (or as you correctly point out "less than 0") as a budget puts people who shouldn't be in business at an even greater disadvantage.

I assume that in taking the hardline stance that you just did you have plenty of evidnece, case studies, and anecdotal stories to back your point?

        *Raise hand*

I started from literally zero (zero knowledge, zero money, zero connections, zero everything). You do NOT need to invest any money to start off in IM: a free Wordpress theme and your brains can take you all the way up there.

PS: And no, $9.95 to buy a domain name is *not* an investment.

Like like your attitude Chrissie. There are LOTS of ways to do things for free online--if you have the time and creativity. And that creativity is what can really make for some really interesting ways to do things.

Hope your project works out great!

Crissie, I agree with your sentiments.

Obviously the senior warrior you refer to hasn't read this thread yet, by Troy Philips.
