Lending ebooks

How is the future of lending ebooks? Do you guys think that itunes will support it? Unless apple is in this game, I think it will fail.... but I want to get your opinions too.

      I don't have itunes account either... but I am being practical. The trend of kindle is falling and trend of ipad is going up,

            I'm going against the tide because there is no "j" in my name and I'm posting and I do own an iPod. I didn't buy it though, it was a gift.

        I can't imagine where that idea came from.

        The daily post over at the POD Publishers group at Yahoo, show the opposite, and the folks there link to articles about it.

        Do you have proof? I would love to know the truth.

      Is it obligatory to be called "Jason" to post in this thread?

      If not, I've also never owned/used any Apple/iTunes product/service (I don't even really know what they are, to be honest, apart from iPhone and iPad - those are from Apple, right?), and the same's true for many of my friends.

      I don't think the Kindle trend's falling, at all: I suspect it has a looooooong way to go, and to grow.

    I buy a lot of Kindle books but most of the time I read them on my computer. I can also say, along with Jason and Alexa, that I've never owned an Apple product and I'm not planning to buy one soon. Those are my thoughts.

    I have some bad news for you, apple generally is not user friendly, with Steve Jobs out of the way, i see no future in Apple, just my opinion just like yours but i think we should be more realistic.

    But this doesn't reflect sales, just searches. I've bought tons of Kindle books and I've never once used the search engine to find them.

    More people have android phones - more than 3 times) than iphones. So that alone kills your theory.

    Businesses can do fine without being present in itunes.

    I'm also in the no-Apple-in-the-house group. That being said, I do love to study how Apple creates markets, how they brand, how they image, etc...

    To the OP question, I think the process of lending ebooks will grow, not shrink. That concept is one that consumers like. If we are going to discuss any sort of long-term strategies, we need to be focused on what the targeted market thinks/feels, not what we might think/feel.

    I can easily see lending exponentially growing for some time.

    Although I have no 'J' in my name, I did once use that letter in a word (I think it was on a Tuesday), so I think I am qualified to post.

    So, let me re-iterate my question. Where do you guys see the future of lending ebooks in next 5 years?

      I'm not quite sure why you ask, but I think that lending eBooks won't go away anytime soon.

      It works for readers to be able to test out an author's writing style to determine if they like it before spending any cash on any other works by that particular author.

      Also, the advantage to authors is in getting their name and writing style out there. Just as kindle authors offering their eBooks for free for a limited time has the potential to bring sales in the future, lending eBooks works in the same way.

      I can easily see digital lending exponentially growing for some time.

      Consumers like it. As long as Amazon and the Kindle (just to stick with them here) are making money with the process, it will continue and it will grow.

      It gets consumers used to clicking to add items, that training process of clicking and sending something to the Kindle (especially one-click) is brilliant on Amazon's part.

      For a loooong time any one of us could go to the local library and we were able to borrow books there for free. Now we can borrow them from Amazon.

      Lending of ebooks will only continue to grow...

    I know I can loan a Kindle book to someone for two weeks. While it's loaned I can't access it. After two weeks it comes back to me.

    However, I think the OP is probably talking about book loans from Amazon.

    Not sure if they will support it but why would it fail if Apple doesn't? I'm a big Apple fan but Amazon dominates books...that is one of their wheelhouses.

    I'm quite sure there is a place for 'lending ebooks' in the future . Kindle is just getting more and more popular with each days. According to Guardian,
    Amazon.co.uk has said that sales of its Kindle ebooks are now outstripping its sales of printed books.

    Underlining the speed of change in the publishing industry, Amazon said that two years after introducing the Kindle, customers are now buying more ebooks than all hardcovers and paperbacks combined.
