My blog is getting 250k hits per month

Hi everyone, I have an online magazine that is currently receiving 150,000-250,000 hits per month. It is a very niche blog and I have over 137,000 twitter followers as well. Currently, I am using click bank to make some money off of it but I feel like I could be doing better than that. I'm only making a couple hundred bucks a week off click bank at best.

My question is are there any ad agencies or companies that I should be working with to enhance my earnings? The companies I am targeting are cigar, liquor, and novelty companies. Anyone have any ideas?

  • If you have that much traffic you could sell some Ad space. Try these

    Good Luck

  • With that many hits, I'd be tempted to try Adsense right away. Even with an abysmal conversion rate, you'd be doing better than you are with ClickBank.

    • Absolutely agree - as far as I have tried many ads programs, google adsense converts best and generates more money than others.
    • I wish I could understand Adsense; the best CPM I got was just $3

  • Adsense are better now, but what you this the companies you are thinking to involve with you go with you niche fashion?
  • hits or page views?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I'm a HUGE Clickbank fan and active aff but I've learned to never have all your eggs in one affiliate network basket... I would join as many reputable networks as you can and start finding relevant offers to promote. Visitors and followers are great but don't forget to push the opt-in. It's overstated but true -- the money IS in the list. Best of luck!
  • Try Viglink for US or Skimlinks for Europe.
  • Try building an email list and developing strong relationships with your subscribers. Continue to provide value to them and come up with nice affiliate offers related to your niche. Find out what your subscribers are interested in the most and market that to them.
IMO, Adsense is for aged people lol. So I wouldn't hurry with it.

    Are all these unique visitors?
    What's your source of traffic?
    • [2] replies
    • These are unique visitors and the main sources of traffic are from twitter (137,000 followers) and organic search engine traffic.
    • What he asked above ^^
  • For a blog with that kind of traffic, I'd prepare a media kit including detailed information about my blog and its audience profile, blog stats, ad specifications (technical and contentwise) etc., then I'd put it on an "advertise with us" page. And, I'd send my media kit with a cover letter to all companies in my niche. Let's say, my visitors are mostly women. Then I'd send my kit also to the companies that cater to women.

This is how I monetize my websites as well as other advertising methods (AdSense, CB, other affiliate networks, own products etc.)

    • What niche is this in and who is your traffic?

A blog about construction engineering that attracts industry professionals is worth more than a Flash games blog with teenage visitors from Asia.

Direct ad sales are usually the most profitable, but is very time consuming. There are buyers at every level, but the good accounts are going to want 500,000+ page views per month.

  • Why not give adsense a try?

Adsense is one of the best option for you.
Another thing that you can do is to lock your magazines by using BLAM Ads or EWA. They accept celebrity traffics.
  • Monetize it using Buysellads and possibly some infolinks.
  • Infolinks and adsense will work great to enhance your earning.
  • I'd say definitely, in addition to getting some good ad revenue going, build yourself a list of visitors, if at all possible. It's just plain SMART.

  • i am learning alot...@ jbelland, how do you generate this traffic to your blog.
    • [1] reply
    • To be quite honest, I started by building an strong fan base on twitter. Once I had just over 1k followers, I created my blog and started posting pictures, cartoon comics, and anything funny that came to mind. After about 3 years of consistency and dedication the traffic started taking off. I think the most important thing, however, was that I paid attention to my readers and was careful about who or what I endorsed.

    • That strategy could work well for you too.

If you do decide to go in this path, just make sure that you never ever click on your own ads because Google will find that out one way or the other. That happened to me a few years ago.
  • I wish I saw this post months ago, I had a cigar company approach me about advertising. I could of gave you their info.

Start with adsense, while having the adsense test out the following
    - VibrantMedia - Intext advertising
    - Blogads - this one is a little tricky you name your price for advertising sorta
    - BuySellAds

I would also try image advertisers, especially since you have a magazine site. Like those ads that appear on what people are wearing in your images and stuff... Luminate.

    Home - Luminate
  • Wow, that is awesome.

The one thing you can try out is to join a CPA network and earn like $2-$4 per lead. Maybe this is what is going to take you from a few hundreds of dollars per week to even more.

Try it out and see if it is possible in your niche.

    • Do you have any recommended CPA Networks to check out?
  • I'd do a survey to see what they are more interested in.. Then find a company that provides that more or less.. After than figure a joint venture partnership with them and split profits.

Do a webinar and sell the product.
  • use some affilate network related to your website's content
  • Adsense is easy you can earn $1500+ with this traffic but depends on nichie and you can also use buysellads to sell ad spot on your website
  • those are some awesome numbes your getting. I have a few blogs I been plugging away at for years, good topics too but I'm at like 15k a month if I'm lucky.
  • You can sell ad spots on your sites directly or with adsense.

I would like to know how you are generating content?

I'd personally like to know the URL of this 1/4 million hits per month online magazine?
    • [1] reply
    • Why? Ye have little faith?
      • [1] reply
  • A quarter of a millions hits and you've had 9 posts here in WF..

    You obviously are incredibly focused.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • i suggest you look into banner cpm advertising or cpa netowrks. you should check out offervault to see if there are any related cpa offers to your niche and amazon is always a good place to look for related products.

by the way love your site.

you should consider tshirts and novelty items with your logos etc.
  • You can easily sell Ad space on your blog. This traffic volume can produce some serious ca$h if done properly.
  • No, Pageviews exceed 350-450k. I'm actually getting 150k-250k visits pretty regularly. Sometimes something will go viral now and then and exceed that.

    • This was just really good content and social media. Be persistent as well. The articles are written with keyword traffic in mind as well.
  • I agree, try google adsense.

    • If you have a massive email list ? You should go to http://discount.safe-swaps.com/bx3r1/ people will pay you to email your list! An example of expected per 1000 clicks (this is one solo ad for one person) you will command $300-700 depending on your list quality.

      Hope this helps

      Regards

      Mark
  • Adsense all the way!!!!
  • Do a "sponsored" post once a week where you write a review about an Amazon or other product using your affiliate link. Let users know that you will only do this once a week but you have to "rent out" ads to keep the site going.

The problem may be now is you just have banner ads which typically don't have the highest conversion rate on blogs and although you have an email list I'm betting the emails you send out just are alerts for blog posts?

Consider doing a bit more persuading.
  • Since you are niche related sites, why not add adsense?

Do you have a widget to capture email lists from your visitors? Why not sell them over and over with your lists?
  • google adsense is the way to go!
  • Damn, pretty good niche authority site man. You know what to do with the traffic man, adsense, clickbank, amazon, etc.
  • Hey Op,

I scanned this thread and only saw one mention of email marketing and that particular poster was referring to using it in only one way. Forgive me if I missed someone posting this already, but the WF is filled with posts and experts on email marketing and this is definitely the best way to maximize AND monetize your traffic.

I would simply put some sort of incentive offer (free something - ebook, etc,) on your site and offer it in exchange for their email address. If you have say 200K of monthly traffic, you should be able to pull in a min of 2K email addy's / month - and at that rate it would be dismal ; /

Then the email marketing kicks in. Maybe you sell them something after they opt in for the free thingy and/or maybe you market to them daily or every other day or weekly down the road.

I know there are CPA and other simple offers that relate to cigars, wine, etc, as well as affiliate programs that would love to have your traffic.

This is only one way to monetize, but I think it is key. You could easily have adsense or whatever your want besides this - although you need to layout the site so it isn't too ad driven.

Regardless, it's not a bad "problem" to have..... how to monetize a ton of traffic

  • This might have not been mentioned, but you could possibly flip--this website on flippa and make some nice money. you have amazing traffic and if it is targeted..Then just sell it.
  • in your place i would create my own products adn sell them to my list or make a jv with someone, or sell solo ads , possibilities are endless man
  • selling ad space , allow for people or companies to advetise via "Media Buying" this gives you a nice and guaranteed monthly checks with that many hits you can charge about $300 per/banner a month imagine with 6 ads thats $1,800 per/month guaranteed since they pay upfront and then what you make with Clickbank.

You can ad adsense ads, if you don't like adsens try Clicksor or so many others just search PPC networks and see which best fits your blog.

    best regards,

    • Could you tell me more about "Media Buying" My blog gets no less than 130,000 pageviews a month. I can lend my header banner for as low as $100 a month.

  • Wow so many hits!!! That is just amazing

    • What did you finally choose to monetize all that traffic?
  • Well This is Totally very cool numbers of visitors i would be attracted to..

I mean you could have made thousands of bucks from such amount of traffic and twitter followers..

You just need to optimize your website better and i mean you can make easily couple of hundred bucks with RT on twitter... if you wanna sell it ...
  • I love the domain name. Nice going. If I was you, I'd become an amazon affiliate and start selling products related to the content. And obviously clickbank could work too.

I think the key is to just find some good stuff people would be interested in, and get it on there asap!

  • Depends a lot on the niche. I might recommend adsense ads. What you need to do is build an email list and that will help you promote your clickbank products. That is, if you don't already have one.
  • Google adsense,
    Amazon affiliate link integration,
Possible ecommerce shop which you can drop ship cigars.

You seem to have the raw creative talent for IM. Keep up the good work.
  • Try getting them on an email list then:

    Do CPA offers
    Affiliate offers
    Own products
    Sky is the your limit.
  • Its a huge traffic man. you can sell your traffic easily.
  • It was mentioned earlier, but here is another recommendation for buysellads.com
  • I can testify for buysellads.com ...they have a great ad network, I am using them on my blog , highly recommended
  • Build a massive mailing list then release your own product. Just an idea
  • Hey Jbelland,

I see you have a very impressive following of your incredibly unique niche blog. I can confidently turn those visitors into increased profits for yourself. Please, I'd like to speak further regarding this. Reach my on Skype at PatHartoonian
  • There must be companies you can approach that offer high-priced or recurring products/services that are a fit with your readers. Brain storm and research different products/companies. See who advertises on similar sites as yours. Recurring commissions are the best, but high one-time commissions work as well.

Put together a small list of your top-picks and approach them. They don't have to set up affiliate software. I do my deals where they create custom landing pages for my readers for tracking. It works. I've created a 6 figure income with 2 companies this way ... and my traffic is a tiny fraction of yours.

It's more legwork and research, but one or two excellent deals will pay much more than Adsense and banner ads (you can do these as well). This approach works great with a list because you can continue promoting the companies/products/businesses on an ongoing basis.

I don't know your niches all that well, but surely there are some excellent opportunities for you. I see you're starting to build a list. Set up a survey on Survey Monkey to get an idea of the demographics (age, gender, interests and include an open-ended question such as "what do you to learn about?"). This way you're armed with info for finding appropriate products/services/software.

Other potential matches: investing products (these can pay very well on a recurring basis), other lucrative recreational products/software ... you know better than me.

At the end of the day you have a problem we'd all like to have.

I like the site. Thanks for posting the URL.
  • If you are getting that much, try CPM. Also, if it is STICKY traffic, I would suggest using popupdomination and harvest as much emails and form different email pools. You can then sell ad spots on these emails.
